This type of criminal behavior on and off the field is one of several reasons I stopped watching professional sports years ago.
A statistically significant number of professional athletes have been coddled most of their lives because of their athletic ability, and truly believe that the rules don't apply to them and that they are above the law. A significant number of professional athletes should be drawing a paycheck from a nearby penal institution instead of the millions they are paid by professional sports teams.
Unfortunately when this type of behavior at the professional level is overlooked or dealt with by a "wrist slap", it filters down to the college and even high school levels--see UT (felonious assault on a police officer with minimal-to-no consequences), UofFL (numerous offenses, e.g., Hernandez who eventually thought he could get by with murder), UofL (accepting any transfer with athletic ability who is not in jail), etc. or the recent attacks on officials in Texas high school games.
If Cooper indeed punched Jones, then suspend them both or better yet give them both a month in jail in either case without pay.
