PAC 12 getting raided by BIG 12?

I don’t know why the SEC is letting the Big 12 take Arizona, Arizona State, Utah and Colorado. Why not take two of those and keep the Big 12 from staying a power conference. but the SEC refuses to expand outside the south

SEC knows none of them teams will ever win anything so they will only offer to FL St type of program Clemson wouldn't have the balls to leave with FL ST for the SEC. So have to look around, my guess one of the Virginia teams.

I dont think it's about adding teams that can win a national title or sec title per say although that's nice if so. It's about expanding the market to other regions and television and so forth.

Clemson would join the SEC today.if they could They are really concerned staying in the ACC is going to kill their football program because of the difference in payouts. They have even proposed a plan where Clemson, FSU and NC I believe get double the ACC payouts of other members. They may not like it, but they see the ACC's media contract puts them at a huge disadvantage

The Big 10 is going nationwide. They‘ll end up with West Coast teams (USC, UCLA, Oregon, Washington) and Southern teams when the ACC explodes (likely Virginia, UNC.)

...and their costs will go up dramatically as a result. I don't know if they'll see the revenue increase enough to justify the expenses. The left coast hasn't cared as much about college football in a long time. Maybe this will change things, but I doubt it.

In the case of AZ and CO, I know there may also be some political reasons going forward. I just don't see enough ROI to include those teams in the SEC, if they are even interested.

I'd like to see Utah or Utah state, CO, Stanford, Cal, and Oregon, maybe Washington or State, but it doesn't make as much sense financially. Kansas and KSU or Iowa State wouldn't be all bad either, and makes more sense with less travel distance.

And will continue to put them at a disadvantage until 2036. ACC hosed themselves when they signed that deal

This. While other conferences are taking whoever they can, sec is only interested in adding quality over quantity.

That's the better approach too because these crazy setups will have teams constantly flying all over the country all the time and really not elevating the brand. Compare that to solely adding powerhouses.

SEC doesn't need another South Carolina school. NC & VA much better revenue options.

Didn't CO leave the Big 12 a few years ago to join the Pac 12? And, now they may want to return? Without TX and OK to generate the big money/hype/attention? Well done, Buffs, well done.

Unless the Big 12 can offer a clear advantage financially, no Pac 12 school is going to join them. Right now, it looks like what each league pay out is going to be pretty equal. Joining the Big 12 would represent a significant increase in costs for a Pac 12 school, so unless there is a major jump in television revenue I think everyone stays put and tries to figure out a way to look more attractive to the SEC or Big 10.

I was gonna say add Clemson and FSU for prestige, and UNC and I guess VaTech for TV market.

If Big12 and PAC were smart they'd be courting Houston, and SMU.

Big schools, big alumni basis, lots of wealthy alumni and connections, rabid Texas sports consuming fans...specifically football.

Big market and ever-growing population in that area of the state too.

I said years ago in similar threads about the inevitable evolution of conferences that SEC should court those two programs and Baylor. Still think they should.

Monopolize the East Texas corridor and essentially annex that little slice of the state into the SEC.

After that conferences should be looking at Florida schools. Again, similar reasons. Growing population, rabid sports consumers, big alumni basis. USF and UCF are big schools, the latter having one of the largest enrollments in the country.

I don’t see how people can’t understand this. It’s not about football, it’s about TVS and money.

Big XII had to make a decision early and ended up with UCF and Cincy. If they had known what was going to happen they probably would have kept BYU and UH and then waited for the 4 corners schools + FSU and one other team. Really, if they had added the PAC schools, replaced UCF with FSU, and dropped UC the Big XII is a legitimate conference again.

UW and Oregon to the B1G. Possibly followed by Miami, UNC, and UVA when the ACC explodes.

I think the SEC should be selective and look for two teams, maximum. VT and NC State would be slightly underwhelming from a football perspective, but would be the obvious choices for footprint expansion.

Not today maybe, but the way and speed college athletics is changing who knows what 5 years from now brings. I don't think the SEC will stand at 16 teams if the Big10 goes to 22-25 teams. Clemson will be a prime target, so will FSU, a team from NC but I don't know which, a VA team, not sure about GT, they bailed a long time ago and people forget so they could get back in. But gone is the time UF, UGA, SC and UK, can help each other keep instate rivals out, too many votes now. 3 states have 2 instate schools in the SEC now and Texas will soon make 4. I even heard someone mention Tulane rejoining.

Houson is a Big 12 team this year, 2023, my man!

IMO this whole "four corner schools" thing is such BS. They aren't going to lower themselves to go to a lesser conference, and separate themselves from California - just for maybe a couple million more in TV money.

They will swallow a bad TV deal, and hope B10 doesn't grab Oregon and Washington in the next 5 yrs.

UNC and VT make the most sense overall for the SEC and I’d be willing to bet are the next targets.

I wasn't and am not a fan of Texas getting in the SEC. They killed the old southwest conference and crippled the Big12 to the verge of disbanding a few years back. They have always been the boss, will try taking over the SEC, Be interesting to see how the conference deals with their arrogant arises. UNC hasn't ruined any conference but they enjoy being in charge, they would have no control in SEC or Big 10. With their superior attitude I think they would prefer the Big10, you could be on to something with VT, I think UV would be a big10 target. Only other in that area is WVU, VT and WVU could become big rivalries for UK.

That's why A&M folks refer to them as the Tea Sippers. I imagine SEC has already put TX in their place. Same would happen to anyone else, UNC or whatever. WV brings no eyes. We'll see how much SEV cares about rivalries when they give us You & MSU as "rivals" over TN & V.

I don't think UK gets UGA as a perm rival, at least no model I have has that. Most have UGA's 3 as UF, because of Jax I guess, AU because of it's historical value and S.Carolina and I have no idea why. I know S. Carolina wants to play us every year because they recruit GA so hard, and UF too.

I can't see how the ADs can justify to their coaches that they are going to take potentially $5-10 million less a year and also hope, pray, and beg that UW and Oregon don't leave as the long term solution.

That seems like a lot less safe option than just heading to a better conference that is getting itself into pretty good position.

Didn't realize Houston to B12 was already a done deal. Good for them. Makes sense for both parties.

Like I said in my previous post, Houston is a big school in a big market. Should work out. They're also kind of a sleeping giant in terms of recruiting with all the talent they have access to. Then you add NIL and all the money kids could make in that town.

They got "Mattress Jack"...if he bets millions on horses and baseball, he'd probably pay kids good money to do a commercial.

The problem all the Texas schools other than UTx and ATM and OU, don't get many of the top guys. After that group taking almost all the top 30 kids there are 6 other D1 schools and multiple oos schools after others. Just not enough elite kids to go around.

Andy Staples podcast says a lot of the negative doomsday reports (much from his co workers at The Athletic!) is backroom trash talk by the Big 12, but not real or truthful. It is in the Big 12's best interest to tear down the Pac 12, to hope they get a bad TV deal, to make Pac 12 fanbases demand their schools look to leave for a diff conf.

Fact is, after next yr with Oklahoma and Texas gone, the Pac 12 will still have 2 bigger more nationally relevant programs than anyone in the new Big 12....Oregon and Washington. Yeah allegedly they will go to the Big 10 soon. Maybe. Reportedly the former Big 10 commish quit and went back to the NFL because he wanted to add more left coast teams but the Big 10 presidents were scared.

Yeah, lot of rosters to fill in just the state alone. However, with the way the game has changed so much, it really doesn't take an entire roster anymore. It takes the right coach who is either an OC, or who can bring in a decent OC and system that kids want to play in, and a good QB...two things can change a program overnight now.

Throw in NIL...A lot of city schools like Houston can now play ball. Again, they can't lure an entire 3 deep worth or kids, but a Mattress Jack commercial may just keep a top QB within city limits from leaving. Not to mention they're going to be able to pitch B12 football now.

You see it in the NFL too. Good OC, good QB...overnight franchises can change.

Saw it with UK...CMS has always been solid in getting a defense and run game...shit didn't pop until LC and Will Levis rolled into town.

If Houston finds them the next Liam Coen, or Sonny Dykes, and a QB in the no UT, no OU, no defense B12...paired with even the left-over talent in the area...see ya...

I believe the Governor of Virginia got involved when Pitt and BC went to ACC, and UVA blocking Tech, and made a stink about Tech not being part of it. I think both UVA and Tech are a package deal at this point.

Without an OL no QB is going to look good, City schools like Houston, Miami and a couple more may do ok in their tow, but ATM and UTx will dominate instate recruiting. Don't see anything about Dykes to get excited about, Coen had a good year, but he also had elite RB,WR and OL to work with. .

I can't remember exactly what went down but I believe you are correct. UVa was an ACC member and VaTech was in the Crumbling Big East and the Governor forced UVa to lead them into the ACC.

I believe those old days of schools within a state being attached to each other are done. It started with aTm jumping to the SEC and that trend has only progressed. Oklahoma left for the SEC, and I am certain there was tons of outrage from OK St fans, but it won't matter. The state legislatures "looked" into UCLA leaving without Cal, but ultimately it happened, and nothing will be done about it.

We have entered into a new world where only two Conferences matter, and everyone knows there are a limited number of invites. If you get one, you go and you don't care about who you are leaving behind.
