Overreacting is the norm for this board

I think we all expected to beat Cal and a 16 Arkansas team when favored by 10 pts at home.

I think this is the problem everything to this point has exceeded expectations but then you lose at home to a 1-6 SEC team at home how do you want people to react ?

Sing kumbaya ?
Your reply doesn't suggest you're looking for a serious conversation, but I'll entertain that maybe you do.

There's a HUMUNGOUS range between "THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE, HOW MANY YEARS UNTIL POPE IS ON THE HOT SEAT?!" and "I mean, what do you want us to do, be happy we lost?!"

I think it's hard to call anything "unacceptable" when you're missing key players.

People keep pointing to Vegas. The Tennessee game confused and misled everyone. Vegas included. The reality is, we're not a good basketball team without a PG. We should have been destroyed in the UT game. They shot terribly and we found a way to steal it.

But rather than thinking "WOW! I can't believe we won that game without a PG," Kentucky fans think "Well, you beat Tennessee, so there's no excuse to lose any games."

Yeah we should all be celebrating losing at home to our former coach when he came into rupp with a terrible team and ran Kentucky off the court. Let’s all be happy the Kentucky players showed up and are happy.
I was about to type "surely you can't be this ignorant to result to fooloish extremisms like this" but then I realized who I was replying to...

Was Arkansas missing their backup PG? Obviously not.
Was Arkansas starting PF limited/basically not able to give them anything? Obviously not.

Cal had too many guys that need the ball. Boogie Fland going down isn't necessarily good for Arkansas. But it's allowed Davis and Wagner to do what they do. Arkansas isn't dramatically worse.

If we had Kriisa, I'd be more on board calling this a terrible loss. But we don't even have our backup PG.
Not having Butler and Kriisa is a HUGE deal

But Kentucky's performance against Arkansas is exactly why Cal didn't want a team full of "shooters", defense becomes a huge liablity. So when you aren't hitting 3s, or even getting the amount of looks from 3 that you need, then how do you score?

More importantly, are you even getting enough stops on the defensive end for it to matter?

Outscoring teams 106-100 is GREAT for fans, and it's great for the energy of the problem. But when you lose low-scoring games, or drop the offense completely like against Arkansas, it's a bad look. And when your defense gives up season high outputs from opponents, it's a bad look.

Defense wins games, it's been true forever and it's still true

Nothing ignorant about my statement. People are trying to make excuses for a terrible loss, instead of looking reality in the face and accepting that Kentucky got out coached and out played. People want to make excuses for Kentucky all the time.

What did people think this year would be like in a loaded SEC? Did they think we would come in and dominate and be eight and zero? We got a brand new coach and a totally new roster. We are currently ranked 14th in the country. I am thinking that this looks pretty good.
Too many posters on here are just miserable and want everyone else to join them. The team could be with out a loss and they would be complaining about the margin of victory or playing time distribution or coaches interactions with refs. Kinda pathetic. I usually avoid this board completely after any loss in basketball or football.

The defense has been a little surprising to me this year. Pope recruited several conference defensive players of the year....I think. What are the main factors here for lack of defensive efficiency? Is it coaching, inconsistent whistle from refs calling the game differently on each end the court, the step up in competition, or lack of ability on the players part. I'm not basketball savvy enough to know, but it's is the one thing I did expect to be better this this year that isn't. But over all I am happy with this team and coaching staff.

So losing at home to a team 1-6 in conference who only has 8 players to begin with is fine because Kentucky is missing our starting PG and guard who averaged like 2-3 ppg game, am I understanding that correctly? It’s a bad loss man, I don’t get how you’re trying to justify losing that game, Arkansas is dogshit, poop water, insert next shit based pun. They are bad, and the worst part is Kentucky got ran off the floor.
Arkansas is dogshit because of Cal not because of lack of talent. That’s exactly why we wanted him gone. He finally had motivation to coach them up and you can see the difference. I still feel UK should have won the game but what’s done is done. Arkansas performance is a key indicator of just how shit of a coach Cal is. He only turned it in when his ego was hurt.

We can’t keep using the butler excuse when Arkansas was missing their best PG as well. Arkansas came in and kicked our ass. It’s a terrible loss.
I can't recall a regular season loss that was worse. Plenty of NCAA losses come to mind that were worse, but not regular season. First, it was another loss that hurts our ranking/standing - SEC and nationally. Secondly, it was a loss at HOME to a bad teamwhich hurts seeding in both tournaments. It also hurts because of who the coach was - no motivation on our part. When we played Pitino's Louisville teams our players/coach knew that the result mattered - he rarely beat us!! The old saying of 'time heals all wounds' may be true but right now I'm still pissed off!

I agree, that’s what makes losing to them even worse, we all know how shit the coach is. The other five losses I can see some reason to forgive them maybe. But this one was inexcusable.

It seems that many of the posters have never played basketball. When I played, sometimes I played well, and sometimes poorly. That is what humans do. The team plays well sometimes, and sometimes not. Why this is not tolerable to so many is beyond me.
