Our Post Offense has got to improve

All of our Bigs are having trouble scoring in the Post. Our Bigs are having a hard time holding onto the ball and they get their shots blocked too many times. It is the one area of our offense that gives me concern going forward. Even passing out of the Post is not as good as it needs to be.

Positioning, getting low, keeping the ball high and using strong hands to make your move are things that seem to be giving our Bigs trouble. I realize we are scoring on offensive rebounds, However, we rarely score on pure Post plays. Our players are more than capable of improving from here on out and they'll have to because our opponents are going to test our Bigs from here on out.

The challenge is that all of our bigs except Dakari are more comfortable facing the basket rather than posting. And Dakari struggles some time to hang onto the ball. They passed the ball really well against Bama, but tonight we weren't moving to create passing lanes. Or we just had the ball knocked away. I actually would like to see few more mid-range jumpers from Towns, WCS, and Lee. Or more high/low action.

That's the one thing that worries me with this team. Our big men are good but every one of them has some glaring weaknesses as well. Our offense goes stagnant when we fumble the ball away in the post and when we struggle to finish. We just seem to heave the ball towards the rim off balance far too often and lack good, strong post moves. Very inconsistent.

I wish Poythress weren't hurt. He can play physical down low.
Sorry but Poythress had no post game, except for the occasional highlight dunk or putback. What is surprising is how very little our post game has improved since the start of the season. Our bigs still can't hold on to the ball and they miss tons of shots right under the basket. I feel when they get the ball down low it's a turnover waiting to happen. Not sure if they will improve that much more between now and April, to be honest.

Vandy did not double our Bigs tonight and stayed out on Booker and Aaron Harrison when the ball entered the Post. They played Dakari, Towns and Willie straight up and we didn't score more than once or twice on Post moves. Vandy is not a very good team. They do have a good Center, but Vandy shouldn't be able to shut us out from down low like they did. It is truly amazing how inept we are at scoring on initial shots from the Post.
