Our old friend enters portal again

It just goes to show you just how POOR the 2023-24 Kentucky front court was.

All three really can't play at this level. Especially not in the SEC.

There were other flaws, but ultimately, that is why Kentucky didn't win with Antonio Reeves, Reed Sheppard and Rob Dillingham.
They didn’t win because Cal was the coach

How could Cal 0/3 in finding even one playable frontcourt player

Our interior defense is what lost the Oakland game.
We could have withstood Goelke's three point barrage if we hadn't let a 6' 6 Trey Townsend dominate us on the inside.
That team lost because it didn’t believe in defense of any kind.

We were better before all 3 of them were eligible/healthy, because Cal tried to force minutes for all of them and played big. We should have played Mitchell at the 5 most of the game, Thiero at the 4, and start the 3 guards. One or two of the 7 footers get backup minutes, Edwards backs up 3 and 4, Wagner backs up 1-3 and plays point when he comes in with others shifting over.

If his name was Robert Brown or something similarly “normal” to an American I am certain I wouldn’t remember him at all.

Nothing against the guy, but he just doesn’t seem to be progressing much. He wasn’t much different from year 1 to year 2 for us, and although some of that could theoretically be Cal, he practically disappeared playing for a K-State team that wasn’t exactly loaded this year. He might be better served going to a mid-major at this point.

That KY team was historically bad in defense. legitimately the worst coached team in the history of Kentucky basketball.

Yeah. Really poor frontcourt. At the time I thought it was somewhat deep.

We should have scored 90 to 100 on those punks too. D was pathetic but not scoring like we were capable was also an issue.
Usually 2 of reed, dilly, reeves perform well, and we would be fine

However, in that game, only reeves could make goals...

If one of Dilly or reed performed well, this would be a blowout game

Both two tanked in that game

Dilly at least tried hard, reed was scared in that game...

Had to google his name to remember who he is and that he played here. That’s how little I cared about Cal’s final teams.

21 feet of suck! They each had strengths but not a single one was a full package for a starter level player.

Doubt his NIL value is very much. He might average 5pts and 6rebs at Wyoming. Maybe D. Allen can put in a good word.

Yeah I bet his value went way down, barely can play. Great shot blocker, so so rebounder, lob threat. That’s his game. Can’t move outside the post really.

The saddest thing is everyone on Planet Earth knew Gohlke would do nothing but shoot 20 3’s and yet Cal wanted to pound the ball inside and go big. He’s the only one who didn’t say, don’t come off the 3 point line, instead stay 5 feet inside the line.

People who can't remember this guy obviously have memory issues. He played here 2 years so he doesn't fit the one and done standard of disdain this board has for former players.

He wasn't good enough here and doesn't look like much has changed. He probably should be at a mid major but I get it's about the money.

Cal really screwed up the heads of a lot of players. There are alot of former cal coached cats going through 3 teams

Or not playing your 3 best players together, ya know, the most minutes. That might have been part of the issue.

Pope could develop him. Williams made tremendous strides in only one season under Pope.
IMHO, this is a very important point to keep in mind going forward. I don't think we're yet to the point where renting a serviceable big man who could significantly improve throughout a basketball season is a completely unworkable option.

If he’d stayed small the team would have flourished. But he was obstinate and couldn’t stand that the Bennies were right and trashed his career and legacy to try and prove us wrong. He burned it all down to prove himself right and sadly for everyone he was completely wrong.
