Our Freshmen are just not SEC quality

None of our players are SEC quality outside of a few. Pope did a good job with what he had, but high school recruiting a full year in hasn't been outstanding. Got fortunate with a few decent rated in state kids, but not leading for any of the stud players even though we have top 5 NIL and name recognition. We will have to tear it up in the portal to get good. Somehow Louisville went from terrible to good with a coach and the portal.

Had hopes for Perry and Noah but was always skeptical about Chandler. But when you look at other Freshmen like Philon and Fears there is really no comparison.
Don’t give up on those guys. They are going to be good players for us eventually. They’re typical freshman. Philon and fears are at another level right now and they will be pros soon.

I wasn't expecting much at all from any of them. They've played as much as they had out of necessity.

My hope then and even now is that Perry, Noah, and Chandler will be productive in subsequent seasons.

One of the biggest questions going forward, what type of portal guys will we get & can we recruit nationally the big boys? We need some guys 6’8 that can defend and rebound, athlete type guys at that.

So you're saying UL is better than a healthy UK? WHATEVER!

They're only playing because half our team is banged up or done for the season.

Pope will absolutely recruit over them in this portal cycle.
I hope so, I think Chandler can be a legit player at some point. I don’t know if Perry and Noah will be anytime soon at least. They can stay on a 15 man roster for sure but we need 3 higher caliber players for sure to be the best.

That's a good outlook but no one should be stressing the whole Chandler situation of whether he stays or goes after he gets married.
He's very replaceable.

I think they can contribute in spurts, they can’t play meaningful minutes in top games though yet at least.
They can fit in as 5th options or tertiary ball handlers. When they get stuck having to handle and make a bunch of decisions, we stall.

They are freshman and we all pretty much expected them to be bad this year. Who actually thought at the beginning of the year that any of our freshman trio would be playing 15+ minutes against a title contender? All 3 of them did tonight.

They're freshmen, and we'd better hope we can hold onto all of them.

We desperately need continuity and experience playing together. We need players familiar with the system who can help new guys acclimate quickly. We need guys who are willing to be the 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th guy off the bench.

That's what Perry, Noah, and Chandler represent. And we need to keep adding a player or two just like them every season.

We're about to have 15 scholarships. We can and should be able to build a foundation of guys who stick around for multiple years.

Remind me who won the UK UL match up. How many top 10 teams did UL beat. Who will have the higher seed in big Dance.

I know we all hope and think the roster will be better next season and he did a great job in the time he had to assemble a team along with a staff…….but, we still need to land some big time freshman to mix in with the portal guys we get. We really can’t afford to strike out this year in the portal, gotta add some legit power 5 athletic players.

They can shoot threes ( not tonight) when wide open but they play zero defense and turn the ball over when under pressure. I hate to see it and say it. They will or should be at the end of the bench with future recruits coach Pope brings in.
I bet you weren’t very good on your high school varsity team either as a freshman?

Some of y’all may be too young to remember Pelphrey, Feldhaus, Farmer, and Ford, but look up their freshman stats. Would you say these guys were SEC quality by the time they finished?
We have got to give these guys time. They are ahead of the aforementioned players at this same stage in their careers. They will be fine.

You are simply wrong. All 9 portal guys are. 40% of our starters, 100% of our PGs are out.

Sadly they really isn’t. I appreciate the hard work those guys have put in, but you can’t have a team of just Perrys and Noahs and expect to compete at the top level. You need at least a couple of elite guys to help amplify guys like Perry. They’re made to be good counterparts with top talent, that’s just the reality of it.

Think it's been a positive for the future. They will be nice rotation/bench guys and only thing that was obvious was they weren't ready for the role that they had to do out of necessity at this time. But fact they did it--only helps down the road for them individually and for the program. Now we've got a different story if they are all starting next year--that would be a step back...but there's no way anyone could see what the roster was built to be and think this was Kentucky's plan to have these guys all starting/playing heavy minutes. Pope/Staff deserve some slack and fact he's won 22 games with this group being limited for more than Half of a season...great job. Like the grit/fight--just too much of an ask against the upper tier teams in SEC this year and that's to be expected.

Our freshmen are freshmen and play like it. Were you expecting AD or something?
