Our field goal % is something else

Didn’t we have a discussion on here earlier in the season about what happens when the shots aren’t falling?

I was scolded for saying that would be a problem. People were telling me we had too many good shooters to go completely cold.

Sometimes I hate being right. Tonight is one of those nights.

We beat Duke and we are title contenders.

We lose to Clemson and we are soft.

We come back and beat Gonzaga and beat UofL and we are title contenders again.

We lose to Ohio St. and we are back to being soft.

This team is a middle of the road team. Not the greatest, but not garbage.

It’s a team that you should avoid using hyperbole on.

It’s going to be a roller coaster ride in the SEC.

Felt like tonight was a tale of one team making tough contested shots by the rim and one missing them at an alarming rate.

Some other abnormal mistakes sprinkled throughout and you get a game OSU controlled.

But 4-22 from 3 and at least 3(not sure if there were more) airballs with a roster that isn’t physically dominant probably tells enough of the story itself.

Final score is awful for the efficiency ratings but felt like the air went out of the balloon when we got it to 6, got a stop. After that we have a turnover, they make a 3, Jax blows an open dunk, and OSU scores again.

Went from down 6 and everyone in the building feeling it to 2 self inflicted wounds and being down 11 again. Was emotionally ending.

The issue is teams are quickly figuring out how to defend us. I understand Pope had little time to put together a team but unfortunately there are some realities about this team:
-They cannot get their own shot.
-The only two that can penetrate are Butler and Oweh but they cannot finish with regularity.
-They are easy to guard because they cannot beat their man so basically just pressure them.
-Cannot work around the perimeter quickly because of the pressure.
-“Bigs” are soft and no real threat down low. Therefore no one leaves their man to double down.

So Pope is really going to have to figure something out quickly because of the limitations. Hopefully with having time to recruit there will be significant improvements next year.

I think it will be a roller coaster as well. We’re not very quick and most of our guys are not bucket getters.
