Actually a number of big schools would not be financially stable if it wasn’t for their athletic department and the revenue they get from T. V. Deals, marketing, ticket sales etc. UK is one of these schools that would struggle to stay afloat on state/federal funding alone without athletics.
Is this true? I was under the impression that very few college athletic departments were profitable; and that little if any money from the athletic department made its way back into the general fund for education related expenditures.

So if Oweh is not starting at the two like I thought, would it be Krissa or Perry? I guess splitting up Butler and Oweh so we always have an elite perimeter defender on the floor makes sense.

That's not true. I know me, and what I would say is that I am here to help UK win a championship. There would be no need to say anything about NIL or the NBA. Those things take care of themselves if you put in the work. Most people here are not most bothered by NIL or Cal. We're bothered by the character of players that NIL and Cal attracted, and the fact that up until Pope winning titles wasn't really the first thing to pop out of their mouths. Pope isn't there to get kids their NIL or NBA contract.
It is NOT a Cal thing. ALL kids want the bag in college basketball. Not JUST at UK, give it a rest. EVERY topic, you whine and moan about Cal, you talk about people defending him and are Cal lovers. It is not that at all, it is just a lot of us are tired of reading Cal this, Cal that, He is GONE, let it go. If you think it is just UK kids that think about getting paid, well your thoughts are worse than your post, but I don't really know how, your terrible post come from your mind. Why do you think ALL college players fought so hard for NIL ? Do you truly think Cal did all of that ? It is simple, these kids want to make money right along with the coaches and universities that use them to make BILLIONS off of them and was not getting a dime from it.
You act like Pope is the greatest coach to ever coach, he hasn't won ONE game at UK and you are already putting him up on a imaginary, unrealistic, thrown. WAIT until he wins something to crown him the King of Coaches.

"when the schools purpose is education" If that is so, why did all of the universities and coaches figure out so many ways to rake in Billions of dollars all while the kids didn't receive a penny ? If it was sooooo much about education, you would think the schools would be looking to gain more scholastic time and less on court time and more and more pre season tournaments and games having these kids travel more and more, play in more and more games ? More time traveling and playing games = less time in the classrooms. Blame the SCHOOLS, not the student-ATHLETES. And yes schools would exist without student athletes, but guess what ? The SCHOOLS wanting all the money they could make off the kids, it is just now, the kids are getting a piece of the pie, and it bothers you ? If you are so worried about students, why are you only concerned and have a problem with the players making money, and not the adults running the show ??? ODD thinking, If someone is really concerned with students, they wouldn't want to see them get used and taken advantage of ??

IF you hate it so much and against players making money, DO NOT watch, I KNOW the schools and players will be just fine without "fans" like you. If I hated something so much as you claim you do, I damn sure wouldn't support it. The parents didn't make the kids that way, greedy college adult leaders did. You sure do place all of the blame on the people who fans actually pay to see. I love college basketball, and damn glad the kids are actually getting something for their hard work and showing their "leaders" they can no longer take advantage of them. Hate the schools, they caused it, not the players, parents, or families.

Yours is a good post. It would be very interesting to see a legitimate large poll of college athletes anonymously and honestly discussing NIL versus team success and championships. How is the NIL$$$ prioritized in their decision-making ?? Would most players sacrifice significant NIL$$$ for team success and trying to win a championship ??

Look no further than the kid who passed on UK and got $2 million (Great Osobor). ALL of the upper tier players want and should get as much money as they can. Too many of these guys flame out early in their NBA careers. Why not start getting paid serious money before ever stepping on a NBA court ? I can't fault a kid for getting paid. No difference in my profession (other than a lot less money for me), I love my job, but I am not married to it. If a better offer of more money / better situation comes along, I would be a fool to not at least entertain the offer. Forever a free agent, having said that, I do not change jobs often. On average about every 12 years or so.

I know I kind of went in on the poster I quoted, but after reading several post bashing the kids, Cal (lol, like he is the cause of it), families, parents, and putting it all on everyone BUT the adults who have taken advantage of and milked these kids for every dime they could get off of them, really struck a nerve with me. Using the phrase "student" first while their adult coaches and universities damn sure didn't emphasize "student" first by adding more travel and games for them to play so they could gain more profit off them, caught none of her ire, was enough. It literally pisses the poster off because the kids think of themselves first and try to earn a income, and getting a piece of the very rich pie. I just do not understand the logic of placing blame on the kids ????

I know it's asking too much, but couldn't we just ONE TIME hear these kids say "I want to win a championship"? Just once? Instead, it's gimme, gimme, gimme. And the stench that Cal created is clearly still hanging around. It's going to take Pope some time until these kids start hearing "go to UK to win titles".
Good lord. It’s a single interview

This is hilariously untrue.
