By my count, Kentucky has won ten NCAA Tournament games in the Calipari era in the last minute, which is a remarkable number. The criteria is that inside that last minute either Kentucky took the lead or the other team had a shot with the chance to win. After a COVID layoff, I've been watching these games to get psyched for the upcoming tournament. I hope there are more happy thrills.

Here's my ranking:

10. 2017 Wichita State. This is a highly underrated Kentucky tourney win. Seeking revenge for 2014, the Shockers, who were woefully underseeded, battled to the last minute, until first Malik Monk blocked a shot with 16 seconds to go and UK up 1, then Bam blocked a 3-point shot in the last second with UK up 3.

9. 2011 Princeton. People write this off as a bad Kentucky performance salvaged when Brandon Knight hit his first shot of the game with two seconds to go. But Princeton played extremely well in a game that could have ended a Final Four run before it began.

8. 2019 Houston. Tyler Herro's shot with 25 seconds to go gives Kentucky the lead in a game the Cats trailed by 3 inside a minute. PJ Washington had a basket and a block in the final minute. A battle throughout.

7. Louisville 2014. The first of Aaron Harrison's trio of game winners. Thrilling game in which Kentucky battled back from a 14-point deficit against a hated rival with the season on the line. For this to not be in the Top Five shows what a remarkable era this has been for the Cats.

6. Michigan 2014. Aaron Harrison again, with a last possession shot with a high degree of difficulty.

5. Notre Dame 2015. Cats fought uphill for what seemed like the entire second half before Andrew Harrison's two free throws inside ten seconds gives Kentucky a 68-66 lead. Tough defense ruins ND's last second shot.

4. UNC-CHeats 2011. Only up one with the Cheaters surging before DeAndre Liggins hits a difficult corner three with about 20 seconds to go. Anyone doubt if he misses that shot Kentucky gets called for fouling Zeller at the buzzer? Great win to send the Cats to the Final Four.

3. Wisconsin 2014. Aaron Harrison completes the Trifecta. This time Kentucky was behind by 2 and facing the end of the season when Aaron buries a 30-footer in the final few seconds.

2. 2011 Ohio State. Heavy underdogs to the Overall #1 seed, Kentucky pulls it out when Brandon Knight, again, scores inside ten seconds.

1. Wichita State 2014. One of the great NCAA Tournament games of all time comes down to a last second miss by the Schockers. Each team hit critical shot after shot down the stretch with the pressure building. A true classic.

Nothing since 2015. Just as no final four since 2015. Since 2015, results in the ncaaT have been short of prior to 2015.

That was great.

We had a couple opportunities to win down the stretch in our losses. 3 of our losses we were not full strength, all on the road. So so close. The good thing about that is I'm sure we put in a little extra time in practice.
I see the point of slowing it down but wouldn't it be nice if the TWEAK WAS HIM YELLING "GO"

THAT IS ALL
GO CATS!!!

This is like the millionth time I’ve commented this but I always like to let everyone know I was at the 2014 game against Wichita State and it’s the best basketball game I’ve ever seen.
It was UK’s best tournament win since Indiana in 1975. Both teams were undefeated and #1 seeds. Very high level of basketball played by both teams in both games. I was also lucky to have been at the IU game. Those are memories to last a lifetime!

2016--lost to ipew 73-67--no heroics--UK favorite
2017--lost to uncheaters 75-73 after Monk super shot--no game winner--UK favorite
2018--lost to kan state 61-58--no heroics--UK favorite
2019--lost to auburn in OT 77-71--no heroics--UK favorite
2022 to be determined

lots of great heroics before 2015--then after the wisc loss---heroics have been few and far between in the ncaaT. All losses as favorite.

that has been the issue SINCE 2015--so many close LOSSES as favorite that once were heroic WINS to get to the final four.

That's an impressive list of great games. Great catch!

Greatest win I ever witnessed was in Rupp beating Illinois back in 84' to make the final four. Rupp Arena was never more electric than that day. I was deaf immediately after the game, me and my sister were shouting to hear each other on the way back to Winchester ! Man I am so glad we got there just in time to get great seats - scalped tix ! haha LOL !!! ... AND we were hoarse for days afterwards! *cough cough* lol

great times !

There sure have been a lot of awesome tournament games in our history, but that list right there speaks volumes for how awesome the quality of games there have been, when it comes to watching Kentucky in the tournament.

This is bad way to look at things. Almost any great program is going to have a ton of their NCAA tournament losses come as favorites. If they didn't they'd be making the Final Four or winning the tournament every year. Being a slight favorite in an Elite 8 game against another top 20 team is meaningless and losing doesn't mean it was a bad loss. Suggesting that a 2 point loss in the Elite 8 to a one seed and eventual national champion is somehow an indictment on the program is absurd.

I dont know why it's so hard for people to comprehend how random the tournament is. It's what makes it so great. And since Cal has gotten to UK we have probably been the blue blood that underperforms the least. 78% of the time we make the Elite 8. That percentage is insanely high.

Why don't you start your own thread if you are so uncomfortable talking about Kentucky's positive record of thrilling wins in the NCAA tournament? I don't appreciate you hijacking this one.

Maybe you could start it on the board of whatever program you REALLY root for.

I’m not “moral victory guy” - but almost all those losses are against great teams and during deep runs

just jogged a memory /

that k state loss is as good of an example of the refs setting tone and pace that you’ll ever see

also - w gabriel air balls a DUNK in that game -

The 2014 loss hurts me sooo much because that UConn team was terrible and we had the best run I've seen in my lifetime only to end to the second worst team we played during that time. I still blame that BS charge call on Poy being the momentum killer.

I actually don't enjoy any Kentucky NCAAT games because they're excruciating to go through live. I only enjoy them after they're over and if we won in which case, I'll watch on YouTube forever. If we lose, I cannot stomach to see it.

In 2012, we just dominated so wasn't that much heroics needed. But we are also a few things away from having four more championships during the Cal run- 2011, 2014, 2015, and 2017.

Anyway, my favorites are all of the 2014 run and the Knight shot. That's the list.

UK was not the favorite in the Elite 8 game and needed 47 points from Malik Monk to beat them by 2 in December.

What a miserable sack you are.

The pendulum of luck swung back the other way in the latter half of Cal’s tenure.

That’s why it’s best to avoid close games all together, like the 2012 team lol

In my opinion, that’s the second best NCAA game UK has ever been involved in — behind only the 92 UK/Duke game.

So we’re to pretend none of that happened?

I just think most of us do not see why it has to be in this specific thread. We have plenty of threads bitching about close tournament losses at UK under Cal or in our history from time to time.

The poster also stated false information about the 2017 loss as UK wasn't the favorite. UNC was the favorite to win the title in 2017 and did so. We all know what happened with the officiating in that game. I will grant that KSU in 2018 and Auburn in 2019 were not acceptable losses and UK/Cal needs to exercise those demons in the NCAA tournament this season. I think they will do that...not sure we win it all due to officiating, injuries and luck...but Final Four is a good goal and then its a crapshoot.

I think win or lose, this thread shows us how close games are in the NCAA Tourney and that you are not going to get the lucky breaks, good only, every game/season. That is impossible.

So we’re to pretend none of that happened?
The thread is a celebration of a bunch of great achievements. Do you show up at an orphaned child’s birthday and remind him that his parents died a tragic death?

Time and place. And I ain’t got no time for that poster. Do you not remember that long winded thread they started earlier this year? Yeah then we went on a tear and are top 5 in the country. Looked real bad then, looks real bad now. Only seems to post negative things and goes quiet when there isn’t an opportunity to do so.

Lol. Just said the same thing.

sometimes fans must recognize a coach's LIMITATIONS!!

Especially as the years move on and the RESULTS decline--

I was there as well, and have said the same thing about a million times on here.

Another thing that made that day so awesome was watching Stanford upset Kansas in the same building in the appetizer. Andrew Wiggins older brother was playing for Wichita State and outscored him that day, lol.

Yup that game was a good one! Stanford had about 70 fans there. Worked in my favor, went down to the exit from the good seats and snagged a ticket from a pissed off Kansas fan, ended up in the 8th row.

You know it’s one thing to have constructive criticism. But when it’s your only contribution it comes across as “one note” and maybe agenda driven. This is a thread about UK tourney successes. Why do you feel the need to drag it down? There’s a time and a place. This is neither.
