Katie making big OL moves already:

At the outset of the “legal tampering” period, the Bengals have made a big move to upgrade their offensive line.
The Bengals and guard Alex Cappa have agreed to terms on a four-year, $40 million contract.

Schefter tweeted the news one minute after the legal tampering period started, meaning it’s safe to assume there had been contact between the Bengals and Cappa before then. That’s not allowed, but the NFL rarely does anything about it.

A third-round pick of the Bucs in 2018, Cappa has played his entire career in Tampa Bay and started all 17 games last year.

Tom Brady will miss Cappa, and Joe Burrow will be glad to have him.

Cappa was injured and missed the playoffs, but he didn't permit a sack all year so this is a big "get" by the Bengals.

More OL news:

Bengals agreed to terms with LG Ted Karras, formerly of the Patriots, on a three-year, $18 million contract.

Karras, 29 tomorrow, can play either guard or center but figures to slide in at left guard for the Bengals, who are making it a point to upgrade their offensive line early in free agency. Along with Karras, the Bengals also inked ex-Bucs RG Alex Cappa to a multi-year deal Monday. Karras appeared in all 17 games for the Patriots last season, starting 13, and graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 21 guard out of 137 qualifiers.

Still have holes at RT, CB (assuming they cut Waynes), and TE with roughly 21-24 million to spend.

I would say:

TE. CJU left. Rounds 2-4
CB. Never enough of them. Rounds 1-3
DE. Same as above. Round
WR. A starter is prob gone due to stupidity Round 4-5
RT. D Kinnard? Maybe around 1 but no later than around 3
DT? Rounds 3-5

Rounds 5-7
RB depth
OL depth
Safety depth

Really want to see us focus on upgrading CB in the draft.

Love keeping BJ Hill and the two OL signings. If Linderbaum is there for us in the 1st go get him. The two FA signings gives us flexibility to address other areas, ie secondary, early on without reaching.

Success so far in free agency gives us a little more room in the draft to take the best player available. Lot of mocks have us taking a CB now with our first round pick and I'm good with that too, but no matter what you don't pass on Linderbaum if we luck out and he's there.

Apple contributed and checks one box. Fewer needs the better. Still taking a CB early makes sense. With Nickel and dime packages so common 8 DBs are needed plus the dbs often can help on special teams. Like UK Bengals need a RT and a DT for the rotation.. free agent or draft. A decent TE can be found in round 2 although Sample was a stretch.

Hell far, they resigned Eli Apple. So much for an upgrade. Maybe draft one in the 1st?
Agreed. Not an Apple fan. Too many mistakes this season. Plus the mouth running and getting embarrassed in Super Bowl.

We need to upgrade the secondary regardless. I'm choosing to look at it as a depth signing.

Frankly weve been hitting grand slams in FA. If this is the worst move we make its still an A+ offseason in my book

Compared to the moves the Reds have been making I ain't complaining about a damn thing with the Bengals.

Bengals need to get the Collins deal done. The FA agents they have signed plus Collins really improves their O-line. Which is priority 1.

Then they can focus on another DB, D-line and Edge rusher. Hopefully Ossai is back and healthy. The window is now withe Bengals and Burrow, No holding back in any way.

I think I am going to become a Bengals foster fan. The titans are a joke and never gonna win a damn thing with tannehill. Julio Jones will go to Tampa now and stay healthy all year and win a super bowl with Dr Satan back at qb. Wish he would just go be rich and good looking and bang his wife and her super model friends and leave the NFL alone. Rant over.

Apparently Chad Johnson has gotten involved trying to help recruit Collins to Cincinnati. Gotta love that. Who Dey baby!

I think if we can trade Dallas straight up for 3rd rd or even our 2nd rd pick, just do it. He does have a favorable contract. 1st rd pick?? I think I'd rather see us just draft our future RT there instead. Collins does have character issues.

Bengals fan application: ACCEPTED [DENIED]

Ohhhh no. You grow up in this state and you can choose between Bengals and Titans. You chose the latter. Sack up and ride it out. Besides the Titans are a very solid franchise. I wouldn't bail on them. They're not the Jets.

I suffered through the Bengals of the 90s. You gotta earn your stripes in the Jungle. You can't miss all the bullshit we've endured just to jump on now.

No different than the Reds. I could quit them and root for the Braves. But I never have, and never will. Cincinnati Reds til I die.

Dallas released him. No trade needed. He's a free agent.

No I was born in TN so it was kinda my only option. But your post has inspired me so will keep on hoping the blind squirrel tannehill finds a nut for once.

Oh, well hell. Then I give you a pass because you were born in the depths of hell but have found salvation and seen the Big Blue light. Climb on board

Word of caution. In a non-Joe Burrow world the Bengals would be automatic for a terribly uninspiring year so hopefully the magic can continue. The offseason looks great so far. As a long suffering fan I keep wondering when the other shoe will drop, but for some reason this Burrow kid seems like he is greater than the curse, greater than the sum of all that has happened to us before. I am uncomfortable with feeling good about my team this time of year. Going to take some getting used to. At this point, I couldn't love Burrow any more than if he were my own son.

It's a damn shame they couldn't have had this attitude with few agency when Carson was here.

Karras or Hill is the Bengals new C one would guess after Hopkins was released. This was shocking to me from the standpoint of Trey being the best on the OL over the past 4 years or so. But he struggled like the rest of them in 2021. Just happy they got rid of Billy Price.

I didn't watch Atlanta much but this isn't exactly the replacement I was hoping to see. Hope he proves me wrong.

Have to remember Pitts was drafted incredibly early for a TE so he got the majority of the looks. Hurst is as good as it a little better than CJ in my opinion. Smart veteran with receiving talent. Good red zone threat.

Collins left the visit in Cincy with no deal. Miami supposedly interested. Bengals needed to lock him up.
There was a tweet today that he wasn't visiting and Miami and was the Bengals were close to sealing the deal. Another said Collins he hadn't left or they flew him back in and are meeting tonight
