Even before the portal I stopped paying attention to recruiting and the drama with these kids. They decommit all the time and crave attention. ESPN certainly didn’t help things with the constant coverage of those guys either.Every year? This kid proves you can free agent twice a month
as it is right now college sports has free agency for every player every semesterI’m not sure G5 attendance is down strictly because of portal.
Attendance in sports has been trending down for a while. Lots of reasons that have been discussed on many different threads here over the years.
Also, a lot of players leaving P5 for G5 so it’s probably a wash.
I’m not sure about a sit out. That unfairly punishes the kid.
I do think some better organization/rules are warranted.
Like I said, kids can be hoodwinked. Be sold something, get buried on depth chart, or just the experience in general can be different than want they expected.
Underclassmen should be able to transfer.
Jrs and Srs need to have really good reason. Coaching change, playing time. Money also, but that gets into free agency type stuff, market transparency in terms of what positions are making. Can’t just say “So and so offered me xyz…” alright let’s see and let us counter.
Same goes for other side of that coin in terms of coaches just bringing new talent willy nilly and experienced players who have performed getting bumped.
All that essentially means there needs to be a professional structure with contracts and free agency period with rules.
Young kids sign temporary/probationary less strict agreements. Sophomore season it’s time for both parties to commit/lock in for the next 2-3 years.
The orignial deal with NIL was it didnt matter where you were because it wasnt the school directly or indirectly paying you, it was your freedom to go out and obtain any advertisers you wanted to sell you name and likeness to. But of course that went the direction everyone knew it woudl where its got nothign to do with NIL and just about teams bidding for players and finding money to fund that with.I love college football, but NIL/the portal is really making it harder to get as excited about things as I used to.
