Constructive criticism:
If you are going to sell overpriced beer at Rupp please use the outrageous profits to build more men’s restrooms.

I drink .
I’m not a prude or teetotaler . However I like to watch basketball and I can go two hours without buying overpriced beer. The couple beside us were up and down every three to five minutes to replenish their beer . The drunk even said to me “ how can you go tru half a ballgame without peeing . “
At the 16 minute timeout in the second half I went to the men’s room. Missed about three minutes of basketball because the line was incredible. Most had a beer in their hand .

I don’t begrudge people having a good time as long as they don’t drink and drive . Their continually getting the whole row up during the action to fed their habit I can contend with . However if UK is going to make outrageous profits from getting people snockered during the game have the decency to use some of those profits to build more restrooms for the folks who came to see the game rather than get snockered .
Great win . Fantastic time . But I couldn’t resist because I just can’t understand why people have to drink to have a good time at a U.K. basketball game . Football I understand . It’s four hours with too many four minute timeouts and a twenty minute halftime . And the product has been depressing lately . But two hours of top ten basketball . Come on , man !

I too don’t care if you drink or not, as long as being safe, and not impacting me (or others).

Yes those drunk at games are annoying. Also the smell of beer is disgusting. But that’s not enough for me to say they shouldn’t be allowed to drink. So I won’t.

But I just don’t get why? Are the games so boring to them that they need to be lit? If so then save your $ and stay home. I would feel I cheated myself to spend a C-note to go to a game and spend half of it in line to buy drinks or in line to piss those drinks out. There’s no line at my fridge or bathroom.
It would make more sense if those drinking a lot at games were those who didn’t want to go, and are only there because the spouse wanted to go. (like guys at a ballet, or a taping of the View)

Football is different. Like you said it’s nearly 4 hours, instead of 2. Also it’s a socialization sport, where there is only like 15 minutes of action in those 3-4 hours, so lots of time to socialize with your friends.

As an added bonus, being outside (especially if cold), that nasty beer smell is less noticeable.

I'm like you, I can't stand the smell. But personally I can't stand the taste or the way it makes me feel. I haven't drank since I was 18 (I'm 41 now) and won't ever again. I don't begrudge others from doing it though.

Because they need to have a beer in hand for their Instagram pic to make it seem like they’re having the time of their life

As I've shared here a little before, I had a pretty rough battle with alcohol. Hi, I'm Semper, and I'm an alcoholic. I could never drink like a normal person. I wasn't a Richard and getting into fights or anything. I just had no off button. I went sober 3 1/2 years ago. Obviously, I didn't drink like a normal person, so my drinking during games experience is different than most. Among the many things alcohol stole from me is memories. Outside of the obvious important things, there are so many Kentucky games and memories that I simply don't have. I can't remember or rattle off specific games, or players, or situations like many of you can. And I regret that. So, my point is, to those that go heavy, you're robbing yourself of a lot of Kentucky basketball memories and tradition.

On the flip side, I get to watch a ton of good movies for 'the first time'. There aren't the words to express how glad I am that I quit drinking. It's not a stretch to say it saved my life.

There’s a grocery store near me that has a craft beer bar. For some reason, it pisses me off to see people shopping at 10 am while holding beers. I have to fight the urge to slap them from their hands.

Before they sold at Rupp I would just get a couple brews down at Yesterday's and then walk up (or ride up the escalator back in those days) and finish off that last one (usually 2-3 total "tall boys" before the game) before the state police made me throw it in the can at the Rupp doors.

Last year at the 5 games I attended, I would have a couple across the street at either the pizza joint or Lex Live, with food, and then head over, grab one more once in Rupp (yes, way overpriced), and take it to my seat. I never go back for seconds or thirds because I'm there for the game, and it's fast paced (or paste if you prefer) enough that before you know it, the 2 hours are up. I will only use the bathroom once and it's usually during a TV timeout when almost no one else is going (halftime is silly).

But then I don't live in KY any longer, so if I get to see one game per year, I figure I'm quite lucky and there's no reason for me to bail on the game I paid good money to see to go stand in line for overpriced scwhag beer and an even longer piss line.

You and I would get along great in "real life". I also have a thing about today's generation (actually, every generation) and their obsession with social media and worrying what others think to the point that they essentially fake activities for online attention. Every time my wife asks "why are so many people going to the mountains today?!?", I say "because they just moved here (Denver) from back east, ran to REI to buy their "mountain hiking" clothes and are on their way to take 200 selfies on cliffs for their social media "look at me, I'm so awesome, what a great life!" moments".

Our world has turned into a reality show where people shit and take selfies on the toilet for their social media platforms. At work there are dudes that go into the stalls and sit there until their legs are numb scrolling through social media. On planes (I travel often for work) I see people all around me who need that "fix" and have their faces in their phones mindlessly scrolling the 'Gram or the Tok (Facebook for the older ones). They can't even stand in line, ride the escalators or moving sidewalks without the insatiable need to occupy their bored brain cells with social media hits.

I don't understand why people attend the games in person at this point, so there's that.
If I lived closer, I would like to attend games since uk finally has a coach.
When I was younger, I didn't mind the 2 hour trip each way, but that was before ccc

Have never had a drink. Lost 1 family member due to drunk driving when I was very young and almost lost a cousin from a motorcycle accident after he was drinking. Just hope those that do drink at the games, they have a designated driver.

Are any of these concession proceeds going to nil?

Sorry for your loss.

As an aside, I think we all know, with 100% certainty, that there are fans driving home from every game at Rupp that are above the legal limit and should not be operating a vehicle. 100% guarantee it.

And then I will also 100% guarantee that they get home safely, so will continue to act in this manner going forward...until something catastrophic happens.

Why people have to consume alcohol at a sporting event is beyond me. Nothing good comes from it, ever.

The people who complained about there not being alcohol at Rupp sure wouldn't be complaining if they were the ones effected by someone driving home intoxicated from Rupp.

My grandfather in the early 1900’s was CFO of a distillery . He did not drink . He told my father “ Wise men make it , and fools drink it”
I told Bill Samuels that. Bill laughed and said he did not think he would make that the MM motto.

I don’t get to attend many basketball games, but I’m a 30 year season ticket holder for football. I vowed to never pay that kinda money for beer inside the stadium. I do my drinking out at the tailgate before the game and don’t drink at all during the game. Water or on rare occasions a coke. I hardly ever leave my seat for that matter. I generally can make it through the game without a piss. I piss when I come in before I get to my seats and I piss on the way out. I don’t begrudge people paying that money. The couple in front of us will go through over $100 worth of beer during a game. I can buy a case of Yeungling for what they pay for two cans and drink them outside before.

Bro, with all sincerity in the world, I’m so happy for you that you overcame it. I lost a close family member to it. He just couldn’t put it down even when the Dr.s told him the next one might kill him. I was always in the belief it was a choice till I saw what my family member went through. He didn’t choose that, he just couldn’t stop because his body developed a dependency on it he couldn’t break. That’s long winded to say that anyone who beats its, I’m so thankful you had the ability to. Proud of you.

I’m a single 34 year old man. I’ve basically stopped dating because every woman is so obsessed with social media. I know that’s why they’re all obsessed with traveling. They’ll fly to Paris to take pictures of their meals, it’s maddening. I’m sure the “men” are just as bad, I just don’t have to deal with them as much

Any event you go to, everything is over-priced from beverages (any beverages) and food is way overpriced- we go to tons of events and we know going in if we have to/want to eat/drink inside, it is going to cost us

I never go to games in person anymore but if I do on a rare occasion I'm not wasting money on overpriced, mediocre at best alcohol.
