On the Recruiting Platoon Effect

Opposing coaches are negatively recruiting by telling recruits they expect the NCAA to levy a severe punishment, even though those coaches couldn't possibly know what the NCAA is going to do.

Negative recruiting happens all the time. The impact of the negative recruiting varies based on whether or not the recruits believe the BS.

I don't think Carolina recruits need opposing coaches to tell them that Carolina may likely face sanctions and by no means is it BS. The only think that will be BS about that is if they DON'T face sanctions. This is the largest academic fraud in college sports history.

It doesn't matter the NUMBER of returning bigs you have unless you are competing for bench minutes. Perry Ellis is 100% guaranteed to be one of the two starting forwards. It is between Diallo and Landen Lucas and to a lesser factor Hunter Mickelson for the second forward spot at Kansas. Diallo considered that an easier path to starting minutes than beating out Poythress and Lee for minutes next to Skal (who is like Ellis in that he is pretty much guaranteed to be using one of those starting spots. If Poythress and/or Lee and or Skal weren't there then the conversation is totally different.

Sounds good and all but with Selfs old school ways a FR is most certainly not guaranteed anything...think it a bit more to do with Adidas than anyone will care to admit.

Diallo's high school team wears Jordan Brand and his AAU team is Nike so what does Adidas have to do with anything?

Self has proven that if a freshman is the best choice to start from Day One that he will start from Day One. Oubre was clueless at the beginning of last year and Cliff was clueless most of the year so they didn't start. As soon as they WERE the best choice, they started. Wiggins, Selden, Henry, Taylor, McLemore etc.. all started from Day One because they were all the best choice from Day One. Embiid came off the bench for 9 games behind Tarik Black before he was ready to roll into the starting roster. Black is now starting for the Lakers. I don't see Lucas starting for any NBA teams after next season, so Diallo is almost certainly going to be the best choice from Day One to start. Self loves high motor defensive players that are relentless rebounders.

Just a refresher for those who aren't aware of how much Matt Jones disliked Calipari when he was at Memphis:

if you are a kentucky fan, tonight could not have gone any better. both ucla and unc lost, which means that the two programs that join kentucky as laying claim to the greatest program ever were not able to add to their total number of championships. ucla looked to be simply not as good as a memphis team that is getting better and better every game in this tournament. kansas was as good as a team can be for 14 minutes in the first half….then was headed towards a classic kansas choke job…..before rebounding and looking great in the last 8 minutes as well. unc and ucla both believed this was their year and were ready to cut down the nets….neither were able to do it and both may have missed their chance. unc could be back if tyler returns, but the loss of love, collison, etc, means ucla has to regroup next season.

kansas vs memphis….it is time for kansas to win another. memphis is a great team, but i simply cant pull for calipari and the way he runs a program. rock chalk jayhawk….

I am not going to make a post on the subject. But travel in recruiting circles and you won’t find anyone who thinks that program is clean. You are free to have any feeling about Calipari u wish but I am not a fan of his tactics on building a program.
