Oline starters...tell me why my picks are wrong

For starters, my picks as starters are likely wrong since my oline would contain 2 starters
who most here don't pick as 1st string this year(plus, I've never saw any of these guys practice).
The 2 guys I'm talking about are Goodwin and Burton as I think that they, along with Cox, are the best oline athletes we have on our roster. I'll never forget the video of Burton leading a rusher downfield and the dback jumping out of his way in fear and I think he is a prototype left guard. And though Goodwin is a true freshman, he is the type of recruit that often starts the first year at places like Alabama...but maybe not guarding the qb's blind side. So, with all that in mind, here are my starter picks:

LT-Horsey...He may not be the left tackle prototype but I think he might be our best option this year.
LG-Burton...stud.
C-Cox...our best line postion; was an All-America candidate last year at guard and rates as least as good versus the competition at center.
RG-Manning...we have a bunch of good candidates here but Manning is, as many of you will recall, a literal tank(though SEC rules prohibit him firing his cannon during games).
RT-Goodwin...I gotta think he is just likely better than Flax, since the staff just doesn't seem to be all that into Flax

Feel free to tell me why I'm wrong; I know there are plenty that read this board that know more than me.

My opinion:

LT is a Buford/Goodwin timeshare
LG Horsey w Burton getting a lot of reps
C Eli should be a monster there
RG Manning. He didn’t transfer to sit.
RT Flax

Not positive where Young and Wohlebaugh fit but should get major run as Yenser has said he will use backups

This is how it will play out IMO

I bet Burton, Goodwin for sure get a fair percentage of snaps as backups. Not sold on other backups getting a ton of snaps yet.
Frankly, if Flax and Young cannot earn snaps as second stringers in their third year on campus, they might be headed elsewhere, soon.

Coaches seem high on Buford. I'd expect him to play significant snaps if not start. Goodwin will also play a lot, especially early. Hard to say with the rotation I expect who will start other than Eli.

Great posts. Horsey did not come back to sub so he will start at LG or get starter reps. He is also a backup LT but hopefully that won't be needed. Hopefully he is the feel good story that the line has given most recent years. Interior line will be solid which is so critical on short yardage downs. Good to have TE options that can help block to shore up tackle positions and be options to counter blitz packages.

Yes, I suspect you are more or less correct.

My guess on the OL two deep-

LT Buford-Goodwin
LG Horsey-Young
C Cox-Wilson
RG Manning-Burton
RT Flax-Wohlabaugh

The biggest clue is who won jobs in the spring. We cannot judge by the Citrus Bowl. Horsey got the start at LT in the Citrus Bowl, but that was a makeshift move. Buford had not yet played significant time in a college game, so Liam Coen didn't throw him to the wolves against experienced pass rushers in a NYD bowl game.

As you said, Manning has been brought in to play.

We all know Kiyaunta Goodwin was signed to become the long term LT starter. By 2023, I suspect Goodwin will start at LT and Buford at LG. For now, Buford won the starting LT job in the spring. Remains to be seen how long that arrangement lasts, but Goodwin is nowhere near being a finished product. Until he learns the basics of the role, Goodwin is an understudy.

Pretty sure you are correct with that lineup pending anything that could change in the fall.

I like the middle 3 starters and backups. OT is a concern/unknown

It's been reported that Flax lost a lot of bad weight from last year and is moving a lot better. If so he could have a breakout year. Some people question Buford's size at tackle but he moves really well and may well be a better fit for the outside zone than a taller lankier guy.
