Oklahoma players yelling and gesturing at UT crowd

I just love it that Oklahoma went in and won that game. I know a few UT fans who acted like they were going to go 12-0 this year. That fan base is so desperate to be relevant again it's hilarious and watching them lose just gets funnier every time.

UT looked like a team of relevance that was ready to emasculate an OU team that seems to get an unexpected castration every year. But, they must have hit a wall. Kudos to OU for fighting through and avoiding the snip. That will payoff for OU later in the season when they have to man-up and get a win.

Think UT is a bit overrated this year as their most talented players are largely soph or younger. Their future could be very bright indeed if kids stay healthy, stay eligible and don't all leave early.

Neyland Stadium is as inhospitable of a place in college football, so seeing OU players yelling and flipping the bird to the crowd is completely understandable. People can only tolerate so much venom.

UT and their fans have always considered themselves one of the elites and big boys of college football. Their fan base acts like they are Alabama. They have one NCAA title and it was a fluke. They deserve all the taunting they get. I loved the heart breaking loss they endured last night.

One championship in the BCS/4 team era but several before that. Look it up and before you say those were long ago, remember that KU also had some championships during those times in basketball - so can't disregard ours without disregarding yours. Lastly, you speak of heartbreak ... I'm assuming it is through experience , especially in regards to UK and UT in football

I can explain this misunderstanding. As the OU player was exiting the field he motioned with a finger ( not saying which one) that the UT fan base was " number one" . Yea he screamed allegedly go,to hell Mother Fu?!&$ And I have it on the highest authority that the meaning of what he said was , " your fans have been through hell and back" and the whole MF thing was a compliment like " your my mutha fu(/& man"

Really folks it was all a big misunderstanding. Much like the misunderstanding we will have on Halloween when drinks are launched on the UT players , that will be b/c our students will think that bright orange is fire on the jerseys.

OU runs a class program, I'm sure those players will get a good talkin too.

UT is one game I am not necessarily looking forward to, Oklahoma is a good football team. Auburn will most likely get their act together by the time we play them and UGA is real good. I would be ecstatic if those are our only losses this year.

Well that's interesting because we don't count our championships in basketball before the tournament era. Nor do we count the NIT championships from when the NIT was a major tournament. Just the 8 NCAA titles.

Considering that football has never been a "tournament" sport until the BCS era (and I say that very loosely), we can only go with how football teams are or were crowned champions. If you disregard UT's championships then you accordingly have to negate many of Alabama's and/or Notre Dame's championships as well. Truth is the 2 sports are/were crowned differently but according to how they crowned you have to give UT credit just as you have to give UK credit as well. UT is by the way an elite team and our numbers back that up : top ten all-time wins, top 3 in bowl appearances and wins, one of the top 3 largest stadiums and attendance average, one of only 2 teams never to lose more than 7 games within a season etc.

I actually agree with this. It has always bothered me how people say things like "the Bears have only won one Superbowl" and discount all the NFL titles they won before that.

College football has always had those "mythical" national champions, and in my opinion still does until at least an 8 team playoff is instituted and all major conference champions receive an automatic bid.

UT is a great program. I will even give you a top 10 program although you are hanging on to that by a thread. But elite?? No....Alabama is elite and UT is not even close to being in the same conversation as Bama. There are 4 or 5 elite programs in each sport and then there is a huge separation from them to the next level.

Just imagine what OU players will yell & gesture @ the other UT crowd (LOL!)

If you Vols are in the upper echelon of the college football world, why are you on a UK board pleading a case for the relevancy of your program?

Maybe you feel like we are inching closer and closer to challenging the 30 year stranglehold you've had on our program?

I'll give you that b/c the truth is the last 5-6 years we have been totally irrelevant ( worst stretch in our 119 years) but it is all relative : we a had a stretch of having a record against Alabama of 9-0-1 . If you look at the whole of the history, our record is top 7 and that is elite -its just we're not elite presently But we're working on it. By the way, good victory over the OBC yesterday.

Not really pleading my case , although all the numbers back that up, just reminding UK football fans who think they are in the same class as UT that they need to get a reality check

"Class" is a relative term when referring to the Vols.:weary:

Alabama
Notre Dame
USC
Michigan
FSU
Miami
Oklahoma
Texas
Ohio State
Nebraska
Penn State
LSU
Georgia
Auburn

I would list all of these programs before getting to Tennessee , I always viewed Tennessee as having a good stretch in the 90's and being consistently decent before that . Never have I considered them a power of any magnitude, some of the teams I listed don't have the historical longevity but they flat out won more titles and were a true force like say Miami . Tennessee would come in after this group which is still good but not top ten imo .

As for comparing UK basketball titles won in an actual tournament to beauty pageant titles way back when , that's laughable.

I get it - when you can't beat them on the field then beat them up verbally.

My point is that your very presence here tells UK fans that our program has become more relevant than we've been in a long time. If we are so far beneath your program, why do you care what UK fans say?

I'll tell you why, because you KNOW we are getting better and will compete with you in the very near future!!

It really doesn't matter what you think or who you'd put in front of UT, numbers support my argument. Let's talk relative w/ programs like Michigan, Penn State, Nebraska, even Texas - all power houses that are going through historic lows just like Tennessee. The Vols are second only to Bama in the SEC as far as championships , bowl games, etc. and yet you would rank Ga. Aub LSU ahead of UT. Your blindness to these facts show that you're biased and that your opinion shouldn't be taken seriously. You are right in one regard and that is that I shouldn't be on the UK site, its just I live on the Ky/Tn border and I'll know tomorrow at work I'll hear the same silly comments that I read here on the board. That said- I'm done ..... have a great night and tomorrow.

UT is not an elite football program. In the 1950s they were petty damn elite and I think they have like 4-5 titles from the 1940s-1950s, but the problem for UT is that unlike a program like UK in basketball...they have not sustained that elite level of play over time by winning national titles in several different decades beyond the 40s-50s. They have 1998...and that is it.
