We've complained about Jaxson and Amari for games in a row. They stepped up admirable.

So if us stating these guys aren't doing the job gets them to do this who's next???
Brea
Perry
Garrison

Or whoever has a bad streak of play?

My take, all players, no matter how skilled have slumps. Yes it is easy to lay blame on the bad shooter that game. I do not like to do that. I lay more blame on guys not giving 100%, like we had at Oh St. I think if a guy is not giving 100%, sit him a bit, if you reinsert into the game and he is still not giving 100% then you sit again and only put him in in case of foul trouble.

If it were me, I would sit guards for not blocking out their guys on rebounds, same for bigs, I would sit guys that continue to get beat on defense for lack of effort. Then if a guy is shooting (not good shots) but just jacking up bad attempts then you sit them.

The way Pope explains things to guys, he should be able to motivate from that.

I know he's not as bad as most say, but I absolutely loathe watching Amari Williams play basketball. I'll die on that hill.

He is hard to watch, gets outworked on rebounds a bunch and has a little of a confidence issue some times. He should be the rock on defense 100% of the time. Same for Almonor when he is in the game. Does not get in there for rebounds. He should be boxing out and going after the ball. We need everyone playing 100% like Butler and Oweh on defense and with attitude. I actually like the way Perry has come along, not perfect by any means but you see the growth.

Yep. It's not that I dislike the kid, he's just so hard to watch. I don't remember the last player I enjoyed watching less. And I hate that, because I love this team.

I don't mind him. You can just tell he's been playing against smaller competition thus far in college when you watch him rebound. His rim protection has improved so thats a huge positive moving forward.

My main thing is every year BBN finds a whipping boy on every team. I’ll go back to the beginning of Cal:

2010: Dodson
2011: Jorts/Miller
2012: Teague
2013: Wiltjer/Harrow
2014: Andrew Harrison
2015: Both Harrisons
2016: Skal
2017: Willis
2018: Washington/Green
2019: Richards
2020: Hagans
2021: Everyone but Allen
2022: Wheeler
2023: Wheeler
2024: Edwards/Wagner
2025: Robinson/Williams

I for one am really tired of Kerr's lack of production.
Seems to lackadaisical and doesn’t even work up a sweat. Most of time he doesn’t even bother putting on the Uniform. I haven’t seen him box out or grab a single rebound in the last 4 or 5 games. Disgusting.

While this may not be a popular idea with UK fans, but I sort of like what Rick Barnes did to Chaz Lanier over the weekend.
He drew up a play for him to shoot the ball and he passed it up. Barnes took him out and told him "You are being paid (NIL) to score and if you're not doing what your being paid to do, then you can sit over here with me".
Now if a player is just missing shots, that is basketball but when a player jogs back on defense or plays lazy, I have no issue with using the bench.
Per Bob Knight: "the greatest motivator in the world is your ass on the bench. Ass meets bench, Bench retains ass, ass transmits signals to the body, body gets ass off bench and plays better."

would be really fun to watch us when both Brea and Robinson are hot in a game. Not sure we’ve seen that tbh. Would make us extremely hard to guard.
Exactly what I was thinking when Brea hit his only 3 the other night against MSU. I thought oh boy, if Robinson and Brea get hot in the SAME game it's going to be wild. Of course that didn't end up happening Saturday night. You know it's going to happen sometime and it will be glorious.

It's almost like he isn't even on the court. I thought Poythress was the king of that, but Kerr has him beat.

Like to see us develop where we can count on Robinson and Brea consistently get about 14 or so each a game plus a total 8 rebounds.

I think we've seen pretty much every important player have a big game. I think with Robinson, we just hadn't seen that yet. Yes, I think he had like 14 against Florida, but he also had some kind of mental lapses as well. But he finally had his big game the other night.

Im sure some guys will have off nights, or a game where they're just outmatched by their opponent, that's going to happen.

But in my opinion he lets too many offensive rebounds get away from him. But if he can give us at least 10and 10 I can live with that.

A new guy will get trashed soon by the petulant club. Probably Oweh.
Former DPOY Williams getting flak for not going after rebounds, keeping his arms up, or moving his legs on defense are valid concerns, IMO. Huge props to him though for making strides in the last few games AND improving his FT shooting.

I never understood the hate for Robinson. Yeah, he hasn't performed to expectations so far, but he's also the only one who knows how to run this system on a team where everyone else is still coming up to speed. He's shown flashes of greatness. Hopefully, last game was a sign of (consistent) things to come.

I'm trying very hard to temper my thoughts on what this team could be by selection Sunday, but it's hard to do that.

This team is already so much better than what they were in November and like you said, eventually we're going to have 2 or 3 shooters just go nuclear on a very good SEC team.

But, we have so much room for improvement on the defensive end and on the glass. When I look at our players, I see dudes that are physically developed and defensively decorated. I see no reason why we can't develop into a very good defensive team.

I remember what it was like in 98. That team hit a a completely different gear right at the beginning of the SECT. I think this team can do that same thing. That would be crazy and I see an avenue where it could absolutely happen.

I think Williams, Jaxson, Oweh and Brea are the biggest keys to doing this. Especially Williams, he has so much potential, he could be dominant.

You're guess is as good as mine. I was kind of low on this team for a few weeks because it looked like their talent just wasnt there.. but after wins agains Florida and MissSt.. IDK, maybe they have just enough basketball IQ, along with Pope's system and adjustments, that they can continue to have a chance against almost anyone.

Amari has a bit of Nick Richards in him. Richards as an underclassman was better than perception. He doesn’t look the part, but quietly can accumulate good per minute production.

Could backfire. Let’s see how Lanier responds. I absolutely agree with the obvious: Lanier was paid big money to be that dude for UT, but there’s a reason why most professional teams don’t want to talk contracts during the season. Major distraction and potential for big blowup and/or motivation issue. Money is an extrinsic motivator which is less influential than intrinsic factors. That’s why I love how much Pope teaches about finding happiness through gratitude and playing for the joy of the game and pride of being a part of something larger than yourself. It appeals to the greatest potential motivator of all. Think hierarchy of needs, deep philosophical stuff our coach is working on. Don’t see Pope throwing grenades at his own team like Barnes anytime soon.

Regarding Williams….those are my thoughts exactly. Rebounding is his issue.

Hes even dialed back how many times per game he tries to back down his defender and go 1 on 1. Something we were all complaining about a month ago or so.

Get more aggressive on the glass and he can be a HUGE part of a really good season.

AW is roughly what I expected offensively. It's his defensive presence and rebounding I'm really disappointed in.

He was clearly just so much bigger and more athletic than the players in the small conference he was in he was seen as some defensive phenom. He's a good but not elite big in the SEC. I thought we'd get an elite defensive big in him if nothing else.

I really feel like they can fix the defense and rebounding. It's not like we have a bunch of skinny, unathletic kids out there, we have some experienced dudes that have some beef to em, I see no reason why they can't be legit defendees and rebounders.
