OHIO STATE - TEXAS THREAD

Their biggest advantage has been $$$$$. And, then conference championship. Acting as if playing a partial ACC schedule is a big deal is kind of funny, but that rabbit hole is what it is.

In the current era, a conference team may have a down schedule (for the B1G and SEC, that still means a lot of tough teams), but the best two teams (those considered for the 12) have to play a very tough game at season end, regardless. ND gets that bye (but let’s not pretend if ND were in the B1G or SEC a conference championship would be a regular gig - it would not, at least historically in the pre-NIL era).

If the playoff gods change the seeding for The 12, and it should, ND should never get a bye, because it never has to play a conf championship game. Boise State should never get a bye, for obvious reasons.
I believe their annual payout (TV deal + post season money) is the same as what UK will make this year. If they don’t make it far in the postseason, it would be less.

My point with the ACC games is that they play (if not more) O4 schools than every other P4 team in the country. The ACC is a little weak right now so That downgraded their schedule a little, but no worse than any ACC or Big12 team and some BIG and SEC teams depending on who they play in conference.

The conference title game is by far their biggest advantage imo.

Well, IU pocketed $222,000 for its involvement in the game against ND. ND made $4 million. And, another $4 million for the game against UGA. And, so on. By reaching the NC game, it will make $20 million plus $3 million per round to cover expenses. Seems like an advantage.

OSU will make $1.1 million.

I was talking overall money. ND will make about $70 million this year between the TV deal and postseason success. SEC and BIG will make the same. If ND doesn’t make the playoffs, it’s much less (closer to $50-$55 million) while SEC and BIG still make much more.

BIG and SEC are projecting about $75 million per school this upcoming year.
