Playing a true FR at QB who had no experience, without Marvin Harrison, Jr who is always open + several other opt outs = not the same OSU team that went 11-1. OSU would consistently be in the top 2 or 3 every year in the SEC. I hate them, but they put a whole lot of talent on the field, came within a whisker of beating GA last year (and would've killed TCU to be national champs). They are well represented on NFL rosters. B10 is not as good top to bottom, but OSU would be a powerhouse in the SEC. You're kidding yourself if you believe otherwise.
We have a better record vs the SEC than Ohio St does. I think they are 1-13 or 2-13 in bowl games vs the SEC.
Obviously they would do very well against mid pack and bottom teams. But the grind of a regular season SEC schedule would be something that they wouldn’t cruise through.

This game meant nothing in terms of how good they really are bc if opt outs and transfers. If they come in with their full roster, they win imo.

OSU is the wrong team to pick in terms of how successful they would be in the SEC. They would still be really good.

I guess we can tell by how Oklahoma and Texas do in the SEC. OSU probably has better players than them, but we will get to see two big 12 powerhouses come in next year. Citing OSU records against Bama and UGA is kind of a reach. What's our record against those two teams in the last two decades?
I hate OSU . I think they are one of a very few teams in the country that could actually be able to compete in the sec for a division championship.
Bad take. A lot of their top players didn’t play. Their defense was still stellar. They would have been a top 4 team in the sec this year.
That’s a pretty classic example of how to lie with statistics…to compare the stats for Vandy against ANY SEC team vs OSU against only bowl eligible SEC teams is disingenuous.
What is Vandy’s record in the last 20 or 30 games against the SEC teams they’ve played with winning records at season’s end? I think it’s pretty ugly, right?
The big difference is they only play 1 or 2 hard game in their conference every year, and that's not every year. In the SEC, especially in the west they'd be lucky to win 3 games a year most years. They're not used to the speed or roughness throughout a year.
Depending on how the ball bounced, and who exactly they played, they’d finish anywhere from 7-5 to 10-2 (Mizzou-ish). This team with McCord I would lean about 8-4.
I understand the original point was to trash OSU and say they would really struggle in the SEC, but I’m only saying that statistic is a poor argument to say so.
Would they have had more losses over the last decade competing in the SEC west?? I absolutely think they would, but that doesn’t mean they wouldn’t have regularly competed for a spot in the SEC championship game.
I’m not a Buckeye fan, but I can acknowledge they normally have elite talent, and as a result, they would compete just fine in the SEC.
More than anything, it just often irritates me in our culture when people use such poor logic, stats, etc to make an argument…even at times that the person is probably right.
It’s too often about trying to have a “mic drop” moment rather than making a sound logically argument.

I said this in a thread a few weeks ago when there was speculation that Louisville was going to play Ohio State in a bowl. The easiest money you will ever make is to bet on a team like Ohio State that was planning on making the playoffs but ended up in some meaningless bowl instead. They thought they would play for the national title. Instead they are playing in a game no one will even remember two weeks from now.
These bowl games tell us nothing about how these teams would fare in the regular season or in a playoff scenario. They are nothing but glorified scrimmages.

Playing a sec schedule of 8 games, they would drop 2 games on regular basis is my argument. They would have had a difficult time making the playoffs in the 4 team arrangement in the last decade. Had the playoffs been the 12 team scenario in the last decade, their odds would have been much higher, hypothetically speaking.
