Official: Wagner to the Hogs

it's not just him and it won't remain that way either. As currently constructed this is not a top 25 team and it's not a tournament team either.
I agree to an extent. I think it's a #23 #24 type team. As for tournament team? I'm hesitant to say that too. Because the SEC is so loaded nowadays. Gonna have to fight hard for conference wins.

I hope you're right because you're way more optimistic than I am.

I agree
I also think he could’ve been a lot better with the right development
DJ got a lot of flack. I remember reading an article ..or maybe I’m misremembering…that he asked for either Reed or Rob to take his starting spot. Or maybe he offered it for the sake of the team. I don’t know
I do know I feel like he was unfairly trashed.
No, I think you're correct. I read the same thing about him offering for Rob or Reed to take his starting spot. He was a good teammate.

GO BIG BLUE AND
COACH POPE, TOO!!!💙💙💙

Wagner isn't a natural 1 like Torres suggests, and I am not sure which team Torres watched last season, but it wasn't UK. Wagner didn't make everyone around him better, and the starters usually stalled on offense with Wagner running point.

If Cal starts Wagner over Fland (who is a very good natural point guard), we can all have a good chuckle.
Chris Smith of Clutch Points? said that Kentucky lost their coach now have lost another weapon in Wagner. Thought it was an odd way to say those things, it's like the guy doesn't understand the deal. Made it sound like we keep losing things and now Pope has to try and put it all back together.

It's been a strange ride hearing all the opinions of people that are not UK fans thinking they know more about what has happened here than we do!?
It's kind of sad these days the way the media has everybody hypnotized with overflowing loads of BS. It's almost like there's a consensus effort to hide the last 5 years under Cal like it never happened.

Wagner to Ark makes me wonder if the FAU transfer Davis is staying in the draft now. Play Wagner along side Fland.
But even if all 3 are there, you can play all 3 starter minutes (30mpg) with a small lineup for just 10min.

Yes. Either that or Knox has a starting promise and Thiero doesn't get a chance. I could see it going either way. Also, I'll go out on a limb and say Davis disappoints for them since he will be playing in a lesser offensive system(I'm assuming that with Welch gone it's back to Cal's old system).
Yeah, but you're forgetting he has Brad on his staff now. Earned, not given!!

Every SEC just got better because of his decision. We can finally benefit from his airballed layups and 12% from 3. Poor Boogie Fland, he probably thought he had a shot at playing more than 20 minutes a game.

Really though, this is great news for us. Was hoping this would happen all along. That Arkansas team will shoot a combined 28% from 3, at best. Write it down.

Give these kids a year maturity and we might be grinding our teeth in what could have been, but they wanted to go somewhere else. Besides their game against UK, it doesn't matter what they do now. If it happens to be Cal and the Hogs that get the one year benefit, so be it.

Looking forward to next year and what it may bring at Kentucky.

My God I kept saying look at their body language!!!! It tells all and you can see it big time in that Oakland game like oh well it's over no need to pull a muscle. Straight from the top- hey your draft potential is so much more important than these stupid tournament games kid you've done great,.our mission is greater than these scores
Omg, Kal has been hanging around Obama too much. It’s literally fried his brain.

This thread is sad. Full of grown adults genuinely hating on a kid.
Wagner is an adult who is getting paid very handsomely for what amounts to professional basketball. He also (like every Cal recruit not named Perry) chose to go to "anywhere but Kentucky." The fact that the entire team left without even considering staying on is going to rub some people the wrong way. Deal with it or step off.

Who do you think will make a better NBA prospect between Wagner and Bronny? Serious question.

Both guys have a lot to improve on obviously but it’s possible that one or both could still improve tremendously with good NBA coaching.

Why do we have fans that give a damn how these disloyal mercenary Calipari players are treated? Wagner isn’t a UK guy, never was. He’s strictly a Calipari mercenary who doesn’t give a damn about Kentucky and didn’t give competing against Kentucky a second thought. Why even care what anyone thinks about him at all? It’s just weird.

Wagner might improve but it doesn’t matter. We moved away from Calipari because Calipari cannot produce. If a few of these players end up better this season then so be it. We knew that was possible when we went ahead and pulled the plug on Calipari’s time here. We moved on not because of Pope’s first team and Calipari’s current class / players. We moved ahead to begin the process of rebuilding this brand and it would have been stupid to wait another season to do it over guys like Fland and Wagner.

Wagner will improve a little bit but probably not a lot. Severely overrated players like Wagner don’t typically because the top 5 prospects they were thought to be.

One thing Arkansas fans are loving right now and I can’t blame them, they love being talked about for the first time in 30 years. It has to really be a deflated feeling when the media and all sports personalities were like, Arkansas Cal? What? Just that resounding theme that Arkansas is a small regional program and people can’t believe Cal was thrown so far down the national landscape.

But like I said, at least they’re being talked about with Kentucky’s image for a few years. It’s more than they’ve ever really had so, it’s a win for them I guess. Smaller programs kill me, always trying to be relevant and so bothered when they’re not.
And this list is actually incorrect because the Hogs have 12 on current NBA rosters . The same as another small program Kansas . Matter of fact only 3 teams with more on NBA rosters KY DUKE and UCLA . After this upcoming season Arkansas will probably take over the #3 spot there . By the time Calipari is done at Arkansas I'm sure we will pass Kentucky with only Duke being ahead . LOL

Cal has no clue how to attack a zone defense. He craps his pants every time someone throws a 1-3-1 defense at him.
The word 'defense' is not in his understanding or knowledge, whether playing against it or using it.

Arkansas is a regional program it’s not nationally relevant. No one thinks about Arkansas as a major program that’s why they are doing what they’re doing in the first place. It’s a decent program it’s just not nationally relevant in either of the major sports. None of these players care anything about Arkansas and you’ll see that very soon.

When Calipari was thrown out and landed at Arkansas the national media collectively became confused because they didn’t see Calipari going to a program with smaller prestige like that. Calipari himself wanted to go to Ohio State, UCLA etc. he didn’t want to be there either.

So it’s not a bash it’s just not what you want to hear and I really don’t care. Arkansas is a regional program that wants national relevance. I get that too but it doesn’t change anything.

Calipari would be proud of you though, not speaking toward your program prestige and accomplishments and instead naming a few NBA players. lol. 30 years of total irrelevancy will do that, at UK we expect a lot more.

Relevant enough that your HOF and last National Championship coach just walked out the door giving up a $33,000,000 buy out and a higher salary . That's how bad he wanted out of Kentucky ! LOL

The best way to know just how badly Cal wanted out of Kentucky due to it being so toxic due to his awful coaching is that he actually left for………..Arkansas 😂 Hope he doesn’t pull a Musselman and do everything he can to get away from the gay orgies in your alls locker room 😂

Breach of contract and such, but we can gloss over that so you all can feel special.

Hey look forward to all those 1st round losses coming. Tons of round of 64 banners to be hung at the worst arena in the SEC.

Aidoo and Z will both be expecting to start as well.

Cal has assembled 8 guys who have the expectation to start, with 7 a few of them who have practically been promised starting roles.

Z and Thiero aren't following Cal just to be told to come off the bench. Aidoo didn't pick Arkansas to be a backup. There will be massive issues down there.
Typical Cal. I bet he starts Z, Thiero, Wagner over the recruits😂

I don’t feel too sorry for Fland. Cal is notorious for starting players over others for no reason and he still chose to play for him, I don’t understand

I’m a Kentucky fan, I don’t obsess over Cal or trash out history because of Cal. Y’all love trying to put people into one group or another, I reject that simple minded nonsense. I was a “Cal nut hugger” when he was here, I am now a Mark Pope nut hugger, Mark Stoops nut hugger, Kenny Brooks nut hugger, and a Rachel Lawson… fan. I will support UK coaches because I’m a UK fan. Have fun getting over it.

People who start Arkansas threads every day seem to be more on his nuts than anyone.
I'm a Kentucky fan too, and I don't obsess over Cal either. However, not watching the Wisconsin game film was a colossal, discrete blunder.

Not glossing over that at all . Do you honestly think Cal would meet with another school knowing more than likely the ONLY thing keeping him at Kentucky WAS that contract ? You think Cal didn't know it was a breach of contract if he met with another school ? That he would lose that massive buyout and higher salary ? You don't think Cal knew Barnhart and the fan base wanted him gone ? Barnhart wanted to fire him but he couldn't afford to ! Just so happens a job came open at the right time that Cal felt would give him the support from the AD , High powered boosters and the fan base . Cal left because it had become toxic and he did BBN a favor by saving the athletic department 33,000,000 and ultimately Barnhart (and the fanbase) got what they wanted . Arkansas is Happy and Kentucky is Happy .
