***** Official Vandy vs Kentucky Game Thread *****

I used to work with a former D-1 recruiter. He said guard play a dime a dozen, but difference in the elite is with the bigs. Just not very many to choose from. To take the next step we can't rely on mid-major big transfers. This team is soft.
Like QUALITY O and D Linemen in football !!!

Noah is our second best rebounder. That’s not optimal. Carr is only a decent rebounder at 100% healthy and he’s playing at about 60%. That’s one area where Garrison could really help them but he’s just not very athletic nor interested in doing anything other than score.
He’s our best rebounder.

Noah is our only rebounder.

Williams gets some of the ones that fall to him. He goes and gets none.

Vandy, the smallest team in the SEC, has 8 offensive rebounds at the half.

Rebounding, turnovers, and defense. Oof. Like how we got to the line and knocked down our free throws. I’ll take scoring 41 in a half with these lineups. But will it be enough?

Gotta limit Chandler in the 2nd half. Every time he passes the ball, it's either a turnover, or very very close to being a turnover.
I don't understand why he can't just make the simple pass. Got a guy 8' from him wide open with his hands up, but Chandler tries to loft it to the top of the key, to a guarded Garrison. Like, why would you do that?

Even WITH Robinson and Butler this team struggled with defense. Been a struggle all year and Pope hasn't figured it out. This team hasn't figured it out. Rebounding is about want to and this veteran just doesn't appear to want it.
Problem is that Pope can’t make them faster and they get torched in Zone. Rebounding is Heart, you have to want to get the ball. Not stand there hoping it comes to you.

He has been better than Perry and Noah tonight

Garrison is not interested in playing defense, but he is certainly athletic.

I'm gonna say it , I hated the way Oweh celebrated that block in half .. it wasn't to fire up the team , it was " Look at me" celebration ... how bout you rebound dude . And it was a rather routine swat .. big deal stud

It's part of it. But blocking out is more important.
Jumping can get you a couple if you’re out of position. If you’re in position and blocking out the ball could hit the ground and you pick it up off the bounce. We’re ball watchers. We don’t get in to position when the shot goes up. It’s frustrating to watch. Amari gets into position and gets boards but he doesn’t use his body. Noah uses his body and gets position. Oweh doesn’t get position but is physical enough to get to balls. Outside of that, we suck at it.
