****OFFICIAL SPRING GAME THREAD**** LETS GO BIG BLUE!

Should start imo. When he was on the field last year, was a noticable upgrade
I tended to agree. Coaches are nearly always right but I liked what I saw of him at MLB vs Jacquez Jones to be honest. I think DeRyck can play in the league one day …I’d be very surprised if Jacquez does

Cummings ?? You are only listing ten (10) offensive positions.
Cummings didn’t play in spring game. But I’d wager Upshaw vaults ahead of Cummings as that more pass catching TE and Bates will be named the starter as more of a blocking TE role. But UK probably starts 2 TE sets to get to 11 positions. Cummings should be part of a four man TE rotation that plays a ton of snaps along with Upshaw, Bates and Dingle

One deserved compliment- thought Beau Allen looked very good. Probably for the first time i legitimately thought he looked like a credible SEC starting QB. In 12 months he will likely have to beat out in spring drills a highly ranked portal transfer QB for 2023 starting slot - but i wouldn't bet against him.
Interesting..... I thought Hogan looked better than all the other backup QB's..... I have been surprised no one has mentioned it... maybe I am nuts.

Man I didn’t see nothing close to the same spring game

1. Smoke looked like he was behind Crod, McClain and Drennan. The same old get hit and easy tackle stuff as always.
2. As far as Qb…in what universe is Beau Allen challenge Levis for Qb1? Allen was noodle arm as usual and his HS reputation as pin point accuracy was ….well awful. Threw some in dirt at Wr feet, guys were having to catch behind their body on slants, etc. He looked like a mess and I’d argue Hogan has come in and taken the backup Qb job….which isn’t a good thing IMO.
At the end of the day Allen’s arm will keep him from being anything but a fill in qb at this level. You have to be able to stretch out that sec defensive speed.

For all the talk about QBs, I think it's awesome that they've only had a few months with an NFL QB coach and they're making some solid plays already. I don't doubt that QB will be fine if, God forbid, Levis goes down. I'm hopeful that we put up enough points this fall to get reps to the backups.

Also, off topic, but I noticed the football team still has the "controversial" checkerboard jerseys. Will the football team have a different look this fall like the basketball team will?

He was the best of the backup QBs…I’d argue if Levis goes down..Hogan get the ball
I'm curious. Is Allen's arm a concern because we're comparing it to Levis who has an exceptional arm? Plenty of starting QBs in the NFL who don't have cannons. Georgia's QB certainly doesn't have a big arm and he did fine last year. All things being equal, of course I'd take a stronger arm. I haven't seen enough of Allen or Sherron to know, which is why I'm asking.

Imo Jones had a very solid year. Square was the one who disappointed. Thankfully he really stepped up in crunch time at the bowl game but he really had some poor play at times last year. Was really surprising to see.

I’m just into the 3rd quarter of the replay.

-Levi’s looked good
-Nice hands by Key
-Robinson has some great RAC potential
-Beau made some good throws. Like the one around 7:40 in the 2nd. Had some bad drops by some guys
-Rashan Lewis made several great grabs in traffic.

Now at the end of the 3rd

-Drennon has looked good
-R Lewis still making plays
-Beau with a pinpoint pass to Bates in the red zone at the end of the 3rd......Bates with a great grab in traffic.

Just finished the 4th.

-Drennon again......and again.
-There’s a drop off from Levi’s to Beau, but Beau certainly does not look bad. There’s a big drop off from Beau to Hogan/Sheron.

It isn’t just arm strength…even though it matters some

1. Allen does have to float it which gives the defense more time to react
2. But Allen isn’t as accurate as some make him out to be. Dudes were catching the ball behind them at times, he threw at the feet of Wr as he didn’t get the ball to them. Just not blown away with his accuracy or command at time.

I just thought Hogsn was better which I didn’t expect. And Levis/Crod only played two drives…so Hogan and Allen had both top Oline and Wr/ TE ….Allen just wasn’t impressive at all IMO.

And if we had Stetson Bennett as Qb1….that would have been a mess last year. That dude won games as his defense was dominating but one game last year and he has like NFL Oline and TE all over the place. we need more than a game manager at Qb

Thanks for the insight.

Agree re: Bennett. I could've won 9 games with UGa talent. With the talent we have at the skill positions, Levis needs to improve finding the right guy to go to and we'll be hard to defend.

Predicted weeks ago Hogan would finish spring as QB2. Saw nothing that changed my mind.

I thought the move to bring him in was pretty telling. I hate it, but looks like NFL ocs are not sold on beau being able to run these offenses.

To be fair, they're probably right. These schemes need a gun to space the field as needed. Condensing the field really hurts

Wow. I never thought that he’d jump Beau......and I really didn’t see anything Uber impressive from the game. I’m not ready to say that we’ll be fine with Beau as the starter......but I think he has a decent hold on 2

Y'all do realize Hogan is a walk on, right?

Beau will be QB2 in the fall. A portal transfer arriving after the season & Beau will battle it out next spring for 2023 starting QB.

Hogan was a 4* out of HS who was on scholarship at Iowa. He walked on this semester, bet he goes on scholarship this summer.

Who knows what the coaches think and see every day in practice, but I thought Allen was clearly the best of the back-up QBs. He had at least three good throws dropped or his drives would have looked much better than they did. I thought he was accurate and it looked like he went through his progressions well. While his arm isn't as good as Levis, I don't think it's weak by any stretch. I also thought he looked calm and collected in the pocket. Hogan certainly looks the part and seems to be pretty athletic. His arm looked a little stronger than Allen's to me, but his throwing motion looks odd. I wonder how his accuracy is in practice. Sheron looked promising too, but he needs to get stronger and physically mature some. Overall, we may not have a star QB waiting in the wings, but I think there are some candidates that can successfully run the offense.
