Someone who watches the games like a coach, how is it that our OL can play well against Mizzou and in the first half against USC, then look horrible in the 2H against USC and tonight? Are we keeping extra people in for protection when they "look" good? Tonight was the first game I've watched on TV, so I haven't had any replay benefits or anything.

I'll add that I don't mention UF because I know we looked bad that night because they were simply way more talented than us.

We play to the level of our opponents. It's a mental toughness thing. A lack thereof.
We are lacking talent up front also. We need to have 8 quality linemen to play every week in the SEC and right now i'm not sure we have more than 2 or 3. I do believe we have some young guys on the roster and some coming in that are SEC quality but O-line usually take 2 or 3 years to develop.

I didn't think they played that well against Mizzou in the run game. They haven't really dominated anybody in that aspect.

To be fair...Mosier is not even close to SEC legit. Doing the best he can for Swindle...but we need Swindle back in a big way. The run blocking is as hot/cold as Towles with the OLine. Couldn't run at ULM in 2nd half, ran all over USC, then whiffed vs. UF, solid run game vs. Mizzou then miserable run blocking vs. EKU.

Didn't we have 2 starters out? I mean that makes a difference. I'm not excusing the performance, but that is part of it.

Well they got pulled in the second half against Missouri and replaced. The change was made to start them this week because they played so well. The fact that they were injured I had never heard until tonight.

Tackle play on speed rushers has been abysmal. Our backs picking up blitzes has been very poor. Patrick also isn't making quick decisions with the ball. His presnap reads are good but I don't get the sense that he's going through his progressions even when he rolls out. Its like he's predetermined his throw. That said its hard to go through your progressions when you've only got 5 seconds.

Oh and I forgot to mention our run blocking was terrible. Everytime we went with a heavy backfield EKU just sent both backers on a blitz because they knew those two guys were only blockers. The poor run blocking tonight I'm blaming the overall lack of intensity from the entire team tonight. Thank god we realized we had a game tonight in the 4th quarter.

Ktime!! Is there anything they can do to help them out besides chipping with the rb/te...
Should we go with a short quick passing game, and run more read option to force there de to play the run first ect???

One thing I don't understand why we haven't seen more of it is the screen game.. Patrick has improved at hitting them the past two weeks, especially when we open with them and we aren't running them at all.

I like Dawson's adjustment to chip with a RB...but other than that, there is nothing we can do until better tackles get to UK.. Screen game was a nice idea but that only goes so far....

How to slow down a pass rush. Get rid of the ball quickly on 3 step drops, use screens to the back, bubble and tunnel screens, flankers screens... Mixed in enough it makes a defender wonder why they got in so easily on longer passing plays and buys you just enough time to get the ball downfield. You can also use formations with TE over tackle to widen the end and their rush Lane, chip with RB, roll protection away from pass rush...

I would just like to know how EKU's offensive line can give their qb all the time in the world against our SEC d yet our SEC O can't give our qb hardly any time against an OVC d.
Schlarman is a terrible OL coach is why. He has been here 3 years and we had 4 starters back this year and besides the Mizzou game and half of the USC game, they have been abysmal this year. And really ever since Schlarman took over for that matter.

I'm pretty sure half the line was out with injuries. That said, the usual oline still needs work.
That is an excuse. Haynes is a regular starter along with West and he is awful. I agree that Mosier has no business starting at OT in the SEC but until this current recruiting class, we have struggled to sign good OT's. It's showing.

Where is Jarrett LaRubbio? I thought all of these o line guys from Ohio were supposed to be studs. Nick Richardson transfers and we never see or hear about Stenberg or Stallings. If we had a solid o line, we would be pretty formidable.

OT was a concern going into the season & events have borne that concern out. Mosier isn't a LT. Neither is Swindle. In fact, likely no one on the roster is. Hopefully Leavitt is.
