Basketball: Hoosiers

Baseball: Field of Dreams

Other: Sea Biscuit

Basketball: Hoosiers
Football: The Longest Yard (meaning the original 1970s version, NOT the crappy Adam Sandler remake)
Baseball: Bull Durham
Hockey: Slap Shot
Golf: Tin Cup
Boxing: Raging Bull
Wrestling: Vision Quest
Cycling: Breaking Away
Horse Racing: Seabiscuit
Not a bad choice in the bunch.

FB. We Are Marshall, The Express, The Replacements
BB. Hoosiers, Blue Chips
Baseball. “61”, Bull Durham, Eight Men Out, Major League
HR. Secretariat (2010)
Golf. Bobby Jones…Stroke of Genius, Greatest Game Ever Played

There are a lot more movies about football and baseball than basketball. I wonder what that means
If Bull Durham was about life in the G League...

Boys, this is a simple game. You bounce the ball, you pass the ball, you shoot the ball. But what do you boys do? You lollygag the ball around the perimeter. You lollygag the ball into the paint. You lollygag the ball up to the basket. What's that make us?

Lollygaggers, sir?

Lollygaggers.

Track and Field : Personal Best
Boxing : The Fighter or Fat City
Baseball : Bad News Bears
Basketball : Basketball Diaries
Football : North Dallas 40
Soccer : Bend It like Beckham
Golf : Tin Cup

Personal Best had a different arc than the usual Heroic Win at the End
Bad News Bears focuses on kids playing the game.
I liked The Fighter over Raging Bull because of the family aspect. You could feel the hysteria his family engendered. Maybe Fat City because it looked at 3rd raters.
Basketball Diaries was small scale and dwelt on life outside of the sport
North Dallas 40 hit right before athletes started making so much money that their personal dramas still mattered.
Bend It Like Beckham had Keira Knightley looking like all the girls on my niece's soccer team. Teenage girls playing soccer can be so graceful and funny.
Tin Cup is Costner's best movie and he actually knows how to play golf.

Hoosiers
Friday Night Lights
The Natural
Goon
Caddyshack
Cinderella Man
Seabiscuit
The Hustler
The Wrestler

Baseball: Major League
Football: Varsity Blues
Basketball: Baseketball (I'd like to say Hoosiers, but they need to clean up stuff like Buddy magically returning)
Golf: Tin Cup
Hockey: Who cares?
Soccer: Nobody cares.

Amazed that Any Given Sunday and Friday Night Lights haven't been mentioned. I find those movies way more compelling because they ditch the Disney-esque feel good plot and nice and happy ending that 90% of sports movies go after. They feel real, and I think each presents it's sport better than almost all it's peers: Nothing gets high-school football quite like FNL (Varsity Blues close 2nd, but hammy at times lol), and nothing gets professional football like AGS.

Plus I just don't think you will find better speeches/monologues than Billy Bob Thornton or Al Pacino in their movies

I don’t like hockey either, but Slap Shot is a classic. Give it a shot if you’ve not see it yet
The Hanson brothers are legit
