Oats was never going to be UK coach. Never. Not after a hundred no's. Never was gonna happen.

I would rather root for Pope than for Oats.
In light of recent news, I completely understand now why Mitch hired Pope. The coaching search and how it played out makes perfect sense right now.
Because the security of 18 million dollars is worth more than wanting the next job?
If someone is serious about getting him then they will pay it.
Its kinda crazy to me that people are so willing to overlook nate playing a guy that was an accessory to murder. I understand wanting to win, but at what cost? I honestly can't get upset at nate oats not being considered.
I prefer to think he will become like Oats or better.

That's the Effing point....nobody, NOBODY in college sports are gonna pay a freaking $18M buyout. Probably only 5 or 6 NBA franchises would do that.

Oats came out right after Cal left the next day said he was not interested or that was what the media was saying of course they also said Drew had been hired and Hurley said he did not want it and not sure about Billy D. but it all too late now we have a new coach and hope he turns out to be a great hire.
The program and his exciting style will sell itself and it won't take that long at all. I saw this under Pitino ... this PROGRAM with the right COACH is dynamic. I think most will be shocked at how well Pope will do. Pope was Rhodes Scholar candidate who is a student of the GAME so with UK resources, BBN and the National Platform on the Big Stage ... he's gonna kill it and he won't need 5-star players. He's one us, he understands us and he wants ALL OF IT. You won't be able to afford the Arky ticket next year and Cal will dread his return to Rupp.

Oats is building another monster at Alabama. He has a great HS recruiting class coming in and a great transfer class coming in.

Cal said he was coming back. Coaches publicly say things all the time that’s not the truth behind the scenes. We will never really know for sure.

I woudn't wouldn't want Oats or or Pearl. We know the backgrounds of both and the ethical problems.
Beyond those reasons:
Oats doesn't coach defense. Bama's defense was worse than ours this past year. I think he caught lightning in a bottle this year reaching the final four. With that defense he was lucky to get there. I believe it was an exception and not the rule. BYU, Mark Pope's defense was much better than Bama's or UK's. And his offense wasn't that far off either.
Pearl playing a lot of players, like UK did this year, is not a successful tourney formula.Both bombed in the 1st round and Pearl has had little success in the tourney.
I think we got a diamond in the rough. A young smart coach, tireless worker and bleeds blue throughout. He's got so much more resources than he had at BYU. Pope is not going to feed the fans a bunch of bull. What you hear from Pope is what you get. You're going to get the absolute best from this guy.
And for those already bichin about Pope, a big boo hoo to you lmao. You are the laughing stock and not because of Pope.
