Oats saying, “They can’t play with us”

“In terms of the roster in the future, we have some really, really important pieces that we’re excited to have back next year, and kind of have a foundation of guys that know what we do, how we do it, what we do in the locker room, what we do at shootaround, what our daily cadence is like,” Pope said Monday night. “We have three incredibly talented rookies coming in so far — and we’ll see how that high school recruiting finishes up. Then we’ll be really, really aggressive in the portal at a couple of positions to bring in a couple superstars.

yeah thats why they only beat us by 5 earlier on. If you take 2 of his starters and his main back up pg hed be lucky to win 8 games. I notice not you but tons of Cal lovers come over here after every loss and talk crap about coach and players. Those fans should follow Calipari, stay away from Kentucky. If Oates, Pearl or Cal had 2 starters out and Cal has the results wouldn't be pretty. This year is the last year with the 5th year guys Pearl and Oates got lucky with but I bet you they choke like usual in the tournament.
I’m certainly not a Cal lover but if those others coaches were missing two starters they would struggle a little but their backups are infinitely better than ours. That’s a product of being there for years and the ability to build depth. They would be playing three freshman that aren’t no where near ready. I’m all for Pope but I’m anxious to see if he can get the players that can compete with Athletes. Brea looked like an invisible man on defense last night.

Pearl does nothing but give respect to Kentucky. He has talked glowingly about the UK his entire time at Auburn. All of it is well deserved. I know most of this board is not a fan of Pearl, but he is not close to Oats. Nate is pissed they did not score 100 last night and believe he tried. Hell of the coach, but is all about Nate.
So much respect for UK that he let his trash players stand on the sideline at Rupp pretending to use their belt to whip UK and the UK fans! Classless coach equals a classless program.

Many screen names will vanish here when Pope succeeds. Tons of shameless weasels.

The point being they both said these things to fire up their teams. There's no coach in America that doesn't do this.

Thank you for posting that, but to address catben there's nothing in that which states that Pope has superstar transfers lined up. It simply says that he'll hit the portal to bring in some superstars. Pope will be fine,vi eagerly await the "Boom!!!" tweets.

Oates wouldn’t have been saying that if Butler, Robinson, and Kriisa would have been 100%.

He knew we were outmanned and had just played a game that went passed midnight the night before. Plus, Carr was on the bike trying to get his back loose. Oweh was missing half his face. We were relying on three Freshmen for major minutes.

Yeah, we couldn’t play with them. I doubt we could have handled anyone last night.

The cards were stacked against us.

Pretty douche move to be still jacking 3s up almost 30 as well, hope Pope remembers this and did seem to be a real quick handshake I thought after the game. Oats loves to run his mouth for someone that’s been to 1 FF, seems a bit cocky without the hardware to back it.
Shooting 3’s is what they do. I doubt very seriously it was intended to be a slap in the face.

I don't think there has ever been a player not named Larry Bird that could take a blow to the face like that and come back on the court and play their A game. There's a great chance he had a mild concussion.

You really believe Coach Pope doesn't have a "couple of superstars" ALREADY lined up to come here next year???? He wouldn't have said that on HIS coaches show if he wasn't SURE about that. IMHO

he should be saying nothing. the mismatch in quickness was apparent with uk months ago. take the win, giggle in private about 3-0, and focus on florida. they just spanked your ass in tuscaloosa only days ago.
In 1986, Kentucky beat LSU twice in the season and in the conference tournament, but lost to them in the regional finals. Not saying it will happen, but Oats should be weary of playing Kentucky a fourth time.

If I win the lotto I’m buying billboard space in Lexington and putting this up on it. Should have a banner in the craft center with that quote for all players to pass by it daily

You must have been young then.😁. Been around for more than one up to that point.
Oh, it started in 1975 for me against UCLA, that one was REALLY HARD!!!

Then move up to these going with the one in the above post:
1977 Elite 8 against UNC
1983 Dream Game against UofL
1984 Final 4 against Geargetown
1992 Elite 8 against Duke
1993 Final 4 against Michigan's Fab 5
1995 Elite 8 against UNC AGAIN
1997 National Championship against Arizona
1999 Elite 8 against Mich St
2003 Elite 8 against Marquette
2005 Elite 8 against Mich St AGAIN
2010 Elite 8 against West Virginia
2014 Championship against UConn
2015 Final 4 against Wisconsin( #1 on my list) 😭
2017 Elite 8 against UNC AGAIN
2019 Elite 8 against Auburn

What's CRAZY about this list is the FACT that UK hasn't been GOOD enough to have a CRUSHING LOSS in 6 FREAKIN seasons!!! The first round losses in my lifetime were embarrassing, but not hard to live with.

JMHO

We’ll be back…..our roster next year will be a hell of a lot better
I certainly like your optimism and hope you're correct. However I'm looking at our projected roster currently an not seeing it at all. And that's if Oweh, Garrison an Chandler stay. Right now I would say next year's has as good of chsnce at being worse as better.

We don’t have a projected roster for next season to look at. Portal season isn’t even underway yet

We got 7 or 8 likely players on roster . I'm judging from that. I know the portal isn't open yet an that changes things potentially but there no gsurdntee we get the prime pickings either.

If you’re going to judge our roster based on what we have right now with like 6 expiring super seniors and not consider the portal, I don’t know what to tell you

Not unless we get someone healthy.

That team we had on the floor last night is not a threat to beat them.

As presently constituted we are not a very good team.

We’re going to get a good seed because of what we have done. Not what we are right now.

Hopefully guys heal up by next week. I think we can win game 1 as is if they don’t totally screw us on the seed.

But for game 2 we have to get someone back.

I can’t really fault Alabama for their cockiness, they’re not accustomed to winning and are dumbasses anyway, so that’s what you get.

For all you Alabama Hayseeds, Nate Oats will most likely not be there next season and DeBoer will be so you’re going to suck at everything.

Why do you say Oates most likely won’t be there next year? I’d certainly be happy but I’ve heard nothing about it

Our roster was pretty good this year if we had everyone IMO
Pretty good isn’t good enough for KY and I’m not putting down our guys love them and the team. Just facts most of these guys on a good to great team would be bench players.

Pretty much my list also. It's not an actual game loss, but the loss of not being able to play the tournaments in 2020 would be on my list. We were playing good!

Oates will more than likely be right back at Bama next year for the same reason he didn’t leave this season!
