Many have pushed for this, while others say that only what he did at UK matters, in having his banner hang from the rafters at Rupp Arena. There was even a poll on this website, for awhile. Have any of you, that thought it should remain, changed your minds? Should UK act and take his banner down? I said yes, even before the new scandal came to light. Now, I think it is without question, but some may disagree. What are your opinions?

Interesting question. That Banner/Jersey represents what he did at UK. And he did a lot for UK. And cleaned up a large mess.
But still, in light of the past two days.....

Now then, that being said:
I wonder if College Game Day will have him on this Saturday as a celebrity guest picker???

Pitino's jersey should not come down any more than Richie Farmer's (a convicted felon) should come down. Pitino rescued UK from the same shame Louisville is suffering from now. UK was teetering on the edge of the abyss before Pitino arrived. Granted he went on to coach our most bitter rival but while he was at UK he was fantastic. His jersey should stay.

In seriousness, Pitino's jersey/banner is hanging in Rupp's rafters for what he did while at UK. It is not up there for anything he did before or after UK. So nothing on that has changed. The Farmer comparison is a good one. So I think it should stay.

(Having fun), we should celebrate Pitino & have RP day. He may have brought down the program that many consider our biggest rival.

nothing he currently has done should effect his actual legacy at UK. he did do great things while he was there. had he not made some very bad personal decisions he would most likely still be at UK. but his ego was to big to understand that. it is almost fitting that he is leaving our rival in the same shape we were in when he took over. however they don't have the history or fan base to keep them out of mediocrity. this may get rick a 30 for 30

It should be gone. The Farmer comparison is weak, because his issues don't involve basketball.

Pitino has repeatedly shown himself to be a criminal within the sport. Ludicrous for the top program to continue to honor him in the top arena.

I mean, I wouldn't care if they took Farmer's down too. But using Farmer as justification for keeping Pitino's up is silly.

I'd leave it up. He helped bring UK back from the ashes. He's a terrible human being but a good coach who didn't embarrass us when he was here.
I place this in the same category as tearing down statues. This is part of our history. At the time, it made us proud.

Leave it up.

CASHtino is a scummy individual..take that jersey down the sooner the better..

Leave it up. Like it or not, we still have some former players for UK who hold some level of loyalty to Pitino (see 20th anniversary pics from 96 championship celebration down in Miami last year). I don't want to risk the chance of alienating those other players that still might have loyalties to Rick, by risking them having to take a forced stand, and coming out publicly against UK or the UK athletic department. That would potentially leave some egg on the face of the UK athletic department. Just let it go, and move on.

Take it down, he's not the type of person we should honor. I don't care if he was able to hide his true character while at UK, thank goodness that moron didn't get caught while here.

We have banners for the 93 and 97 final four teams, and a banner for the 96 national champions. Pitino coached all three and those are good enough, imho. He doesn't need his own jersey and his reputation in the 21st century sullies that banner/jersey with his name. Take it down.
