Not sure why, but this loss doesn't hurt

It doesn't hurt because it doesn't matter, the team is either going to improve during the SEC season or it's not going far in the NCAA. Either way a loss the first week in December won't make a bit of difference.

I agree. It is a little depressing watching Skal look lost out there, but we will be fine. Look, UCLA was just better prepared. They had our game circled on the calendar since last years beat down, it was at their place, and they played completely in to our weaknesses.

It happens.

Agreed. I told someone at work that if I were to pick an OOC loss it would've been UCLA. I didn't want this young team to have the #1 ranking so early, just too much pressure. We went across the country for our first true road game and against a team hungry for revenge.

It doesn't hurt because it's meaningless. It doesn't hurt the overall out look of the season and it's not a heated rival.

Losing is never fun.
But these last few seasons have shown us that each year is about the journey and the growth of the players.

Very true, this is the golden age of Kentucky basketball, the journey is the fun part

As a non UK fan, I feel the same way. I didn't care at all when Duke lost to UK... we looked bad, you looked good, but both teams were SUPER young, with almost every player either being A) new or B) in a new role in terms of importance. So what? I think for many years I would carry over some sort of expectations from the year before. Like... 'We were so good last year, what the hell?' or 'I thought this guy would be a star... why is he struggling?!'

This year I literally had an "Ah ha" moment at the start of the second half of a game where I was thinking 'Why isn't Grayson taking over in this moment? Why isn't Chase playing much? Why isn't...' and then I said "You know what? I'm just going to enjoy watching a young team, and a bunch of young players, learn who they are, and just enjoy the ride." Literally since that moment I've enjoyed the year SO much more than I could ever have expected.

The loss didn't hurt (as much) as some others because you could see games like this coming if you were paying attention in he first 7.We are a good team but not a great team.Cal has to find a way to get more production out of Skal either by motivation or using him differently.Skal has to be productive to the tune of 12 to 14 ppg and 7 to 9 rpg if he is not then what we see is about what we are going to see the rest of the year.UCLA shot well so there weren't as many chances to get the ball out and get into transition and we struggled on the boards anyway. If this team is going to be all it can be it is going to come in the transition game. This isn't a half court type of teram.Skal,Lee,AP,and Humphries are going to have to hold their own and rebound on the defensive end and get the ball out in transition,if they aren't able to do that we are subject to get beat by several teams this year.

I feel the same as OP. I am usually a mess after a UK loss, but we won every friggin game last year. I have not let last year fool me into thinking that is the norm. All of Cal's other teams have struggled in games early due to youth. We have talent, the best floor general in the country and the best coach in the country at preparing young teams for March. We're good.

Losing sucks, but the continuation of weak play since the Duke game is frustrating.

Anyway, a road loss against a decent team in December isn't the end of the world. We have plenty of time to figure out how to play and lineup combinations.

The two previous losses before this have been in the final four so it's nice to lose a game again and realize it isn't the end of the season!

Mine's an age thing. When I was in my teens and 20s I lived and died by this ish.

Now that I'm grown and actually face real world challenges, college kids throwing a ball through a hoop isn't nearly as important to me. I still want us to win every time out, but I refuse to sulk for days because we lost.

Amen brother it is just a game, I have no doubt we will lose a few more but I believe we will be ready at tournament time

There's been exactly 0 undefeated NCAA teams since 1975. Forty. Years. People act like we're the Globetrotters and we just lost to the Washington Generals.

A loss in December is fine. We looked like garbage, but the measure of a team is how they respond. That's what I'm curious to see.

I hate to lose....but I will admit that last year was awesome but I would be sick to my stomach every game because of the streak. They put me under too much pressure. With this loss the pressure is off for a while. Plus Lee getting hurt so early kind of prepared me for the loss.

Especially it does not hurt in light of the fact Ulis was injured...he doesn't miss that many shots if his arm was 100% add that Lee wasn't in most of the game, UCLA played as good as they are capable of playing they were focused and did not let up. I was greatly encouraged by the fact we stayed within striking distance with all the adversity. I tip my hat to UCLA Bryce played a fantastic game to control it, I did think he was pushing Briscoe and it should have been called, life on the road and of couse big boy Welsh will never put on a performance like that again..he couldn't even believe it hisself, they won that one we will not be as easy should we meet again.

This loss hurts me (hell, they all do). The biggest reason why this loss hurts wasn't that we lost, it was how we lost. We looked like we just didn't have the IT factor in this game. This is the same UCLA team that got blown out a few games earlier to Kansas.

This was NOT the same UCLA team that got blown out by Kansas. They were at home, were motivated by an embarrassing loss the previous year and they shot lights out. When shots are falling even mediocre teams can look great for one night. There is zero shame in that loss. Cal has their ears now.
