Earl Watson mentioned here. If it ends up being him, Jemarl Baker played AAU ball for the Earl Watson Elite. He’s admitted being pretty homesick thousands of miles from a tight-knit family in California, and he’s buried on UK’s bench ...

Ahh the days of when most freshman and sophomores (this is actually Baker's first real year, mind you) sat the bench until the upperclassmen graduated. Today's kids and their families believe if they aren't on the floor starting and playing 38 minutes per game, they're being slighted somehow.

Baker is fine and he should not listen to those people. He got a good amount of floor time this year (his first true year on the floor) and will likely see much more next year (and the year after). It's these kinds of "handlers" or "advisers" that are the root of the problem with kids running off (ill-conceived NBA draft dreams, or transferring) when they don't get instant gratification.

It's Tucker trying to be first and look like the smartest guy in the room.

It's a preposterously loose connection based on a hypothetical that isn't even likely to materialize.

Baker would have to want to transfer and sit ANOTHER year. UCLA would have to hire Earl Watson. Baker would have to think his odds of sitting and then playing there would result in better odds of seeing his role continue to increase here in the next two seasons.

I think the NCAA would clear him to play based on previous transfers

People make fun of Mitch B when he says we live in a microwave society

CAn understand the lure but seems to me sitting another year would be a downer. Hope he stays, If Herro leaves he will get plenty of PT

I think UK just represents a school that features a disproportionate amount of kids unwilling to wait. Most schools in America aren't giving significant playing time to their underclassmen.

As much as I dislike tucker he seems to be one of the few media people with consistently good inside info on the team.

This could be his way of hinting that Baker isn’t happy or is thinking about a transfer.

It’s hard being the “just in case” guy. But if Hagans and Herro both leave Baker is going to get minutes next year.

Tucker is very annoying. Baker is just starting to get comfortable and contribute. If he wants to sit another year, it's his life but it seems like a bad move.

How about we wait until something actually happens before allowing a tweet based on pure conjecture to become a referendum on the entire program.

Can we do that please?
That’s fine but it’s not just Baker. It’s every recruit that has transferred out of here or left earlier than they should have.

Some of them are just head scratchers. Why would a guy like Baker think he would get big minutes early on? And why are stories like this getting released seemingly every year.

In fairness, while his general sentiment was totally accurate, he used that to describe Kentucky football fans. Not a smart move on his part at the time. Joker and Billy Clyde.......the fans weren't wrong.

If PJ, Johnson, Herro, and Hagans go pro, with Reid graduating, and we lose Baker (or anyone else) to transfer, we are going to be in for a world of hurt next year. Going to be majorly shorthanded if we don't take a bunch of grad transfers because there are few options left. There will be 2 less players incoming than outgoing and one is rehabbing a torn ACL.

Who is doing this so called “pushing?”
Not literally, but media and fans. People act like players can't come back, develop, and improve. People act like guys will always be who they are as freshmen. Nick gets it, Baker gets it, both of these guys have high potential.

I'm sure it's not an easy decision for the kid. Cal obviously gives those he believes are more talented a much larger margin for error. I mean, Baker fouled Harper (I think) on the 3 and was benched for the rest of the game.

Does he want to sit out another year? Probably not.

Does he want to get buried on the bench after each mistake in favor of those with more upside? Probably not.

If Baker does transfer, can we get back that foul on the 3 point make against Harper that took the lead from 30-20 to 30-26 and killed our momentum?
