Not Impressed

Have been a .2nd half team.

Missed block by #80 on Brown’s reverse hurt as did that fumble by Dingle.

Score here and get the mojo going

hard to judge. We always look like a completely different team vs the cupcakes then Florida we play well.

What worries me is having vandy as first sec foe. Though they should have last year as motivation.

I’m not seeing the team I thought we would. Hopefully they show up for conference play.

We always look like hot doo doo against the cupcakes but usually play better against the SEC. Stoops' philosophy in these games is play not to lose instead of stomping on their throat. It's why we usually come out complacent and flat.

We have played three (3) games and I'm not convinced we are good, but I'm not sure we can't be. It is hard to really tell.
UK is definitely a good MAC team. Conference play will decide how good of an SEC team we are. When UK should have lost to Chattanooga, I walked away from the game to take a hike thinking we were really not good. Then, the rest of the season happened and we were a good SEC team. Only time will tell.

We have good coaches, good players, but some weak spots. If those weak spots can be repeatedly exploited, this team may suffer. The good news is that we have some strong parts around those weak links. Is that enough?

I agree here....it is not a good thing but Stoops two Citrus bowl winning years also saw..

- 2018 Benny Snell/Josh Allen lead team was 21-20 vs. Central Michigan at halftime in opener
- 2021 Will Levis/Wandale team needed a pick six in 4th qtr to seal a win vs. UTC Mocs.

And those teams went on to do some good stuff in SEC play. I don't know why Stoops still has this crap happening but it is not indicative of the year the squad will have as track record has shown.

I think this team has a good QB, I am happily surprised how explosive Ray Davis is and some inconsistent but dangerous WR/TE weapons. We also have a massive DL with depth and some really talented LBer/DBs. Kicker who is money so far to boot. I think this team gets Kenneth Horsey back and the Oline takes another jump and this roster can be a nightmare for Florida, Tenn and Bama to be honest.

Played one game with two starting OL out. Have looked inconsistent on offense against inferior competition. Havent run many plays...and yet we are number 5 in the country in yards per play. That Stat is an outlier to the doom and gloom crowd so it never gets mentioned.

For Coen to achieve this in three games against any level of competition is eye opening, to do so when he has only previously coached three or four of his offensive players is absolutely amazing.

The doom and groomers are going to have to explain to me why this Stat means nothing and there is no hope going forward.

I'm listening....

We will see how it goes against Vandy, if I'm their defensive coordinator, I blitz most of the day and take my chances. Leary has already taken to many hits against lessor teams than Vandy. It's always a hard game and they know they can beat Kentucky. If we don't clean up some things, we will leave with a loss.

That stat is both impressive and amazing !!
Thanks for sharing it. It is definitely a positive and, hopefully, an indicator of success to come.,

This is not a strong Kentucky team. Offense and Defense both look weak,
Record: 3-0

SEC offensive rank: 9

SEC 3rd down conversion rank: 3

SEC defensive rank: 5

Leary SEC passer rank: 4

Davis SEC rushing rank: 5

Wallace SEC sack rank: 1

Quoting Sean Connery in the Hunt for Red October, your conclusions are all wrong, Ryan. This is a strong Kentucky team that has not completely come together yet. Let's agree the schedule so far has been weak. With so many transfers, we needed that. This team is just now starting to rev up. KH will be back soon. With better pass blocking, we win the next two and get ranked.

Thanks ... many good indicators, so far.
Promising and encouraging ... !!

Wait.. what… you’re using statistical information to disprove allegations?

This Kentucky-Vandy game is interesting. They beat us last year but we have their best Rback now. Should be an emotional game for Davis. This is our first road game of the year. The two teams are fairly evenly matched just based on statistical performance although Kentucky does have a few advantages.

You mentioned blitzing. I do not think our OLine has done a very good job so far of picking up blitzes. Until we do, teams will keep blitzing us. Vandy blitzed Levis and they are going to blitz Leary.

The problem Vandy will have is that we are better equipped to take advantage of their weaknesses than they are equipped to take advantage of ours. Just boiling down to obvious things. I do not see how they will handle our front seven especially Walker and Wallace. I expect OO8 to have a good game. In order to beat us, their Qback Swann will need a big day. I do not know if he is up to that without getting time, but he may gain yards with his feet. Our secondary needs to play well. And we can't fumble the football.

Per NCAA Rankings Defense 2023
UK is 26th overall, 5th best defense in the SEC. Do not see many issues (3rd down for sure an issue) on defense. Scoring defense we are up around 12th.
Not bad for a very lack luster showing so far. Competition is the main reason for this for sure.
Hope to see us keep up the hard work on defense. Hope the offense fixes their issues (all fixable).

Defense has been atrocious guarding the RPO.

Nothing that is not fixable. Do not throw the baby out with the bath water yet. We will see what happens over the next 2 weeks. That will tell us a ton. I am more worried with the pace and offense mistakes over our defense right now. If we were to get down to say vandy by 14 pts early could this offense play fast enough to come back. I am not sure on that.
