Not ideal but...

With Carr out for an unknown amount of time, do we move Garrison to the 4 spot? I think he has the tools. If he has any nba potential in his future, that's where it'll come. Really missed Carr yesterday and against Bama, although he played as much as he could
Pope may have to try it, I just know except for O! driving the lane, we basically had no inside game, and we should have killed Vandy in the paint.

I rather drink bleach then have to watch garrison and Williams on the floor at the same time for extended periods of time
We got the lead and held onto it while Garrison/Williams were in the game....fwiw. We don't have great team quickness but we can go bigger than just about anyone with
Williams
Garrison
Almonor
Noah..Yeah, until Butler is ready...but we have Jax, Perry and Brea too. I was happy with how Noah played yesterday for the most part. He'll improve and is.
and Oweh

Of course we can change the pieces around, especially if Butler is 100% or close to it. I re-watched a bit of the game and Garrison played better than I first thought. Bottom line is, we are minus our PG(to a large degree), Our backup PG and now our 4. Both Carr and Butler are difference makers to the team when healthy. Pope played some different lineups yesterday and there is some potential in a couple of them, especially as Noah, Perry and Chandler get better. Chandler didn't look good at all to me yesterday but I still believe his ceiling is very high.

They can’t play together for extended periods,

A little but not much. Do you want Williams playing the whole game? No.
Also Garrison is too slow to guard most 4’s.

We need Garrison and Williams to split time at the 5, so why would we want to play them side by side? We only have two Centers.

Go small. Then you have Almonor spelling the 4. Garrison spelling the 5. Put the Freshmen in based on need at the 1-3.

G Butler/Perry
G Oweh/Chandler
G Robinson/Noah
G Brea/Almonor
F Williams/Garrison

Spread the floor and force a big to try to cover one of our 4 guards.

Defense will be a challenge, but we can’t guard anybody, anyway.
Can play almonor or Garrison at the 5 as well and do this…while packing a zone in and daring teams to out score you from deep.

Or…as much as it sickens me to say after watching awful Cal lineups in the name of “size” despite better statistical 3 guard lineups…. Due to our injury situation it may be worth trying the Williams, Garrison, AA, Owen, Butler. With Jax as the 6th man and Brea as the 7th. When bigs need a spell you steal minutes by playing small.

Better learn to play some defense or we’ll be lucky to win a game in the SEC & NCAA tournaments, & what happened to this run n gun type offense I thought we would see. We walk the ball up the floor more often than not anymore & Butler & Robinson are too loose with the dribble. Very careless type passes and not “tight” with the dribble. Anyone that pressures them has a chance at a steal the way they just play so nonchalant with the ball, I know he had a short time to put a team together & I can handle a loss when we’ve given the best effort we can. But when we still refuse to block out as evidenced by the one guy on the ft line at the end that almost got the rebound…..says alot about fight and will, no one seems upset when things aren’t going our way. We just accept it for some reason.

That's more what I would do as well. Go small with tight zone defenses...especially against teams who don't shoot well from the perimeter.
Get really good at mixing 1-3-1, 2-3 and if a team really only has one significant perimeter threat, add at least 1 other like at box/diamond and 1, or triangle and 2 just to throw the other team out of rhythm but still protect the paint.

I wish Williams had some shooting range. Garrison has the range and is getting more comfortable taking long range shots, but his handle is suspect. Williams is the better ball handler and passer. I think whoever is playing the Four needs a better handle than what Garrison has. If we had Carr Saturday, we win that game. Carr would have been a matchup problem for them.

I was surprised to see them in the game together Saturday, don't think we've really seen that before (at least in a meaningful game).

Almonor is playing fine, Brea can play a little of the 4, so I think we're fine. Maybe we'll see Trent get some more run as well. But really, Carr and Almonor are the only 4's. Pope MIGHT decided to go with Williams and BG together, but that's not really how his system is built, so he'd have to do some adjustments

It was obvious that Pope was searching for anyone to fill Carr's place Saturday. I agree that Carr would've been the mismatch we needed to exploit more against Vandy. Noah had significant minutes and played well..I just don't think he's the answer, yet. We need Chandler to step up a lot. He didn't last long Saturday. He got beat on d at least once. I'd have to re-watch his little time on the floor to see what Pope sat him for..but he was not effective in that time.
We haven't seen much of BG/AW on the floor together but we've seen a fair amount of both on the floor with Carr. I think Garrison can help us right now and he should improve with playing time as well as practice in a little different role. Maybe not ideal but with Carr out and no good idea when he'll be available again, I think we have to try something that utilizes BG more.

Oweh and Butler are the only 2 that could beat a big man off the dribble is a problem.

Totally agree with you

As for Chandler, I know when he was in at the end of the 1stH he ran PG for a possession, dribbled right into trouble and turned the ball over. I don't think Pope takes you out immediately for a turnover (like Cal might) but it also doesn't mean you're going to get another chance to go back in the game, especially if Almonor and Noah are playing well

I'm excited for the development with Chandler, he's dealing with more variables than most freshmen, so I think we'll see him elevate his game at some point, I just hope it's with the Cats and not with BYU should he enter the portal

Possibly switch Almonor for Brea and this is the answer
Wasn’t that the lineup Pope started? I missed the first couple of minutes, but I think that was the starting lineup.

I prefer Brea at the 4, he’s a better shooter and has a little better handles. I would like to see it to find out if it is effective to put 4 guards out there together. It would hopefully force the opposing 4 man into a mismatch we can take advantage of.

Oweh and Butler are the only 2 that could beat a big man off the dribble is a problem.
If Brea and Robinson are together with them, then the opposing 4 man has to guard one of them. Neither is great at driving, but if they have a 4 man guarding them, they would have at least a slight advantage in quickness. The opposing 4 man would have to guard one of the guards. Whichever one it is should have a quickness advantage.

I really don’t like the idea of Garrison and Williams on the floor together. I don’t think it gives us any advantage. And if both get early whistles, then we could be down to Almonor at the 5 for a long stretch.

Go small from the start and force teams to have to match up with our guards. We are getting killed on defense and on the boards anyway, might as well play to our strengths and just try to outscore everyone.

I like the idea of using a zone against suspect shooting teams. We aren’t very effective guarding the 3 point line anyway, so we might as well pack it in and dare teams to shoot. At least it should cut down on the layups and free throw attempts.
