Northwestern LB - Nigel Glover

Damn I know what you meant Grumpy. Not sure why it struck such a nerve. There are definitely good football players who want to use football to go to an elite school. Not every school can be elite, even if that hurts some feelings.

There was a pretty highly rated KY kid who was committed to Michigan, got the test score needed to go to Stanford and immediately flipped. Kid was only interested in going to a top school. Did not turn out to be a huge impact player. Is now a grad transfer to UofL but got his Stanford degree.

It's interesting how people twist things around to suit themselves. LOL! Are you throwing the UK fan under the bus to appease the GA fan? Again, I objected to the supposition that UK football players are not interested in anything besides athletics, and that UK's football coaches may not be able to attract NWern players from the portal because they are interested in more than athletics. Looks like others agree with me. If you are satisfied with the narrative he offered, that's your prerogative. I won't name names, but I have personally known UK football players who went on to become dentists, doctors, and corporate executives. My brother-in-law's dentist is a former UK player. I know two former UK players who are corporate CEOs. My daughter is in a PhD program with a former UK player. A former UK player works in our office. So the characterization is a cheap shot. If cheap shots at UK athletes are okay with you, we disagree.

No where did I say they couldn't, you saw my post and decided to attack me. I have no idea what value the kid has on his education, but he chose a school with one of the best academic reputations in the country when he had easier academic options.

I really don't understand what you issue with me is. Just like UGA UK isn't on the same level academically as Northwestern, Vandy, GT or Duke to name a few. No where did I say they couldn't sign him, but if he is looking for a prestigious degree it will be a tough sell and you know that's true.
I'm not sure where the anti-grumpy movement has come from but I don't see anything wrong with what you said. In fact I thought the implication was that sometimes a better football school (Kentucky) can lose out to a lesser football school (Northwestern) in recruiting due to academics. .....which is true. We usually lose one or two a year to Purdue or NW because of thier academic pedigrees. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Not gonna lie i don’t understand how you came to that conclusion lol.

Afari can play safety but that would weaken us at the nickel. With Coach White using primarily 3-3-5 now, Afari is a very important component as our nickel. Andru Phillips can also play nickel, but he is our best cover CB. It would be better if Kevin Larkins had shown up. I have a high opinion of the true freshman Jaremiah Anglin too, but you never want to be in the position of relying on a true freshman on the back end of your defense.
Anglin tore his ACL and is out till next year

Glover would be a piece needed for the roster IMO. A 4 star LB that can move with 4 years to play at a position that we need one more on the roster. He has that one year in college already in so he is somewhat acclimated to the college level already.

The other position I am concerned about is WR. We don't know about Crowdus yet. After him our depth at WR has no experience to speak of. Hoping that White and A Brown is ready to contribute. We really need an experienced WR for depth IMO. If we had that, I think one or two of the younger guys could give us some snaps and learn on the fly so to speak. But having no experienced guys at the two deep is kind of scary for me. Really need six solid WR's that is ready to play. With a QB like Leary, let us not waste him with lack of experience at WR if one or two starters go down. So go out and get at least one, if not two, portal guys that has experience and has proved themselves.

This isn't the '90s, most of the people that caused problems there are dead and gone plus stuff that was against NCAA rules then is now accepted cheating.
Not talking about the ncaa. Memphis has problems like Chicago has problems.

Wrong again. I don't waste my time deciding to "attack" GA fans or anyone else. That is really weak. Truth is, I responded to your rude suggestion that UK football players don't have any interests other than athletics. You can try to turn this around and present yourself as the victim, but that is nonsense. Get a life.
[/QUOTGA.
I never said anything like that, not even close. This isn't even about a UK player, the thread is about a Northwestern player entering the portal. I have no idea how important academis are to him, but he chose NW with options to attend other P5 schools. You actually seem like a knowledgeable and good dude but if I weren't a UGA guy I doubt you would have replied. Anyone serious about their education can get a good one anywhere, but a degree from places like Vandy, NW, Stanford, GT are a bit more prestigious than one from UGA, Bama, TN or UK.

But I never meant for it to come across as UK didn't have smart player, recruit smart players or convince smart players to come to UK. Just that academics are more important to some. We all recruit the same kids.

Sounds more and more this young man wants to play Big 10 football somewhere

Stephon Herron?

Wish him well. But, they did not offer when he picked NU. How much did they really want him now?

#s game addition in my opinion. Missed on LBs this current recruiting class and had the space to take him short notice. If he doesn't work out, he's shown the portal.

He literally just used the portal to leave Northwestern! You are only allowed 1 get-out-of-jail card! He is stuck there & they are stick with him until graduation.

OH ST has nine linebackers and we have six. They have higher ranked LB's so I thought Glover would see his path to stardom would possibly be faster here. The coaching here on defense and the development of players along with us needing him more than OH ST is why I thought he would come here.
