North Dakota guard Eaglestaff talks about Pope and UK

I wonder if he is an "in the system" type of guy or a "volume shooter" type of guy. The latter might not work well here. Not saying I'm not interested in the kid. Anyone who can put up fifty in college is worth a look of two. Just wonder how he fits in Pope's system.
I’m not going to pretend I’ve watched every North Dakota game to scout him, but the numbers look more like a volume shooter. He’s taking 15 shots per game with good not great percentages (36% from 3, 42% overall).

Now some of that may be that he’s the only legit talent on a team that was bad enough to go 5-11 in the Summit League and tries to do too much, but it can be a little hard to separate for an amateur like myself. Good scouting and talent evaluation is more important than ever with the portal being so vital to roster building. Fortunately for us, this season suggests that Pope and his staff know what they’re doing in that regard, so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt if they want this guy.

I never judge based on raw numbers. Go on YouTube and watch full games. Then, you will understand what a player really is. I haven’t started on this kid but probably will if I think UK has interest

regardless of where Kentucky ends up this was a great recruiting platform to kickoff Pope's coaching era.

Players like this kid see that he can take promising transfer portal talent and turn them into a top 20 team, sharing playing time along with a system that any player can thrive in - either you see them all as role players or none of them are.

And now Pope is elevating the program back to where these guys says it means something to play for Kentucky. Something Cal would never even consider.

I'm looking forward to the next few years.

UK's needs (even with Kriisa):

1. Combo Guard
2. Stretch 4
3. Combo Forward
4. A Big that doesn't mind backing up Garrison

That’s one positive about the portal, players from small schools can play their way to the big time much easier.
An example I always think about is with multiple small high schools in a single county. Many of the guys who become the “stars” on those teams would not have developed if all the schools had been consolidated because the kids who matured and developed earlier would have blocked them. But with time, when guys are given an opportunity they rise to the top. Then the 1st year of consolidation the new big high school is really good because the best players from the little schools all come together. Then after a couple of years the consolidated high school settles back down to a norm due to fewer opportunities for the late comers to develop.
