North Carolina in

UNC admittedly got hot late in the season and had a decent showing against Duke. Having said that, the committee has repeatedly said that they no longer use "the last 10 games of the season" as a factor as they did in the past. Now it is "body of work." People like Lunardi, who had them out, were applying the standard that is CURRENTLY used to decide who is in and who isn't.

Yeah, they were impressive against a Duke team that has 2 major players sitting the bench, including the probable POTY.

And really only impressive for about 8 to 10 minutes in the ACC semi’s as Duke had them down 24 points in the second half. 18 points with under 9:00 to play.

So if it’s not performance down the stretch, (which did not hurt Auburn, who has lost three out of four) then it can’t be solely weighted on the quad either since unc got in.

I know one thing, if you’re a UNC fan, you need a tetanus shot today as many jabs as the Heels have received from the national media, hell even the British dailymail has a piece on the controversy

LOL, UNC is better than some here are giving them credit for. Some of their losses to better teams were close. Their defense against Duke in the second half was lights out. I was impressed. Offensively, they suck.

EDIT: their record easily could have been 27-8.
Second half of their ACC tourney game when Flagg was out?

My favorite bs argument UNC fans are trying to use is the “ but look at the other metricts”. The other metricts we are better than the other teams. The committee has always looked at the quad system and who you beat or lost to. Carolina lost to very good team they played. The committee made a accommodation for unc.

Several issues about this:

1. You hear "they had a tough schedule"--yes--and that's commendable. Thing is you have to WIN some of those games. This is an argument that gets old about scheduling.

2. The NCAA Men's Basketball Committee used a criteria to place UNC in the field that was the exact reason they kept out the SEC of the CFB Playoff Bracket. LOL--I mean they trolled the crap out of Greg Sankey and it's a joke. Everyone knew the SEC scheduling was far superior to that of SMU BUT.........overall record won out and "winning games" mattered in FB. In Basketball? Just play a tough non conference schedule in a league that was weak (not because of Duke-but when your next 2 Tournament teams go a combined 36-4 behind Duke....what's the speak to regarding the conference?)

3. Indiana didn't want to be in the Tournament--their Administration would look idiotic if Woodson had some Keatts like run and they forced him out. Could cause the guy lined up to take over to back out. So what you'll see there is fake outrage. Privately the Admin will be pleased they can start over. Ohio St--well "Justus" was served. The fluke run from Keatts last year allowed him to get to Ohio St and Diebler and Buckeyes went backwards. I think they were good enough to win a game or two-but losing to a rotten Iowa team...you can't argue.

4. WVU had the biggest beef IMO. They deserved to be in the field-and they have a situation where their HC is one Iowa is targeting. From the state....brother played FB for them...etc...so this will be an interesting time for them. He does have a buyout that could cause Iowa to look elsewhere but interesting they get screwed over and now have to sweat whether their new HC leaves.

5. Know it's not perfectly in order, but the other issue that I'm sorry if already discussed. Not only does UNC get the play in game-they get the game against the CA team in Dayton where Texas has to play Xavier-who has a great following and will definitely make that a home game at the First Four. So you don't even punish UNC by making them play the best of the 4 Play In teams (My opinion) who also happens to be an instate team from OH.

The ACC has made great runs in NCAA with their teams who get in-so that's what they'll point to. I exclude Duke because this is a legit talented/loaded Duke team like the last Coach K team and other top teams they have had. Clemson is a damn good program/team. Louisville showed they are on right path and a good team. UNC? They showed they can win against bad teams.....lose to everyone with a pulse and their big "comeback" was when Duke was without it's best player and a key player in Maliq Brown who defends and is part of a nice chemistry/rotation they have. So we're to ignore that. It's laughable-and Kenny Smith will be his usual obnoxious self excusing this and throwing it in everyone's face should they win the Play In Game. Go AZTECS!

By their defense against Duke, you mean the ref's defense against Duke.

The whole officiating crew was fixing to get UNC in.

Thought I saw where the WV governor? is going to file a lawsuit against the NCAA over this. WV had somewhere around 7 or 8 quad 1 wins and NC had only 1. NC AD gets a huge bonus for them getting selected. Lot of calls for him to resign. NCAA continues to have corruption written all over them.

I do not buy that for a second, lol. Refs suck in general, but their defense was good that second half. That alone won't win games, you have to score points, too.

Terrific post Ralph!! (Glad you brought up WVU as well).

And I’ve always felt the same way, okay (insert team) you played a great OOC schedule, but you lost all the freaking games. (Or all but one in the case of the team in question)
