Noel fires agent.

Noel has agreed to 100k contract with the Pygmy Samsquantches. Per his new agent aka me

Dallas is smart. Pay him what his market value is. If he wants something crazy, let him try his luck and he'll find out no one wants to pay him.

Shouldn't Noel be getting like at least 8-10 mil a year ? I don't follow salary caps, contract trends quite as closely as others so any input would be great? I see lower caliber players making much much more than Noel ?

Or maybe his value isn't as high as I think it is.

He's making close to $6M this coming year. I think he was hoping to get closer to the $20-25M range on his extension.

If he signs a mac deal with Dallas he could make $146M over 5 years. But that's not likely.

Well first he had to play through his rookie deal, which was all locked in. This is the first time he's been on the market. However, he's a restricted free agent, so that adds in a lot of quirks. Restricted free agency has kind of become an all-in or fold game.

For example, Washington matched a max deal for Otto Porter for a few reasons: 1. they're looking to show their fanbase they can compete, and letting your home grown talent go looks bad on that front and 2. convincing John Wall to sign his super max deal. So basically other teams forced Washington into a max deal - they could offer Porter the max knowing full well they wouldn't get him.

For the Mavericks, they're not really looking to show anyone anything any time soon. They don't have a core to keep together, so why pay for a guy if you aren't sure he's a cornerstone for the future. Other teams know they can't offer him the max because - gasp - the Mavericks might just let him go. Noel has no incentive to accept an offer in the 8-10 million range because the Mavericks would surely match and get him at a decent price. So that's where you end up at a total stalemate.

I'd say play out the year and enter unrestricted free agency. He'll easily hit the 8-10 million range, even as traditional centers lose favor.

Some injury concerns as well. Play out the year, and if all goes well he should progress and garner a closer offer to what he's looking for. I'd love for my Rockets to grab him, but for the sake of my Houston fanhood, he's not worth the max.

With all the crazy contracts thrown around this summer I'm surprised he didn't get at least a near max offer. At this point he's probably better off playing out the year and going into next summer as a UFA.

FYI, I will never ever understand the Chandler Parsons deal.

Even Jrue Holidsy makes 100x more sense than that.

Normally I would say a holdout for someone like Noel, with a history of injuries, would be a bad idea. But looking at the Mavs' roster they absolutely need to do something about their 5-spot. Noel is the only quality big man they have.
