Noah and Perry

Noah and Perry can make shots from the perimeter. That skill is always going to be a huge plus and has it's place on the court. We've suffered in recent history from having multiple subs and even starters who the opponent could totally ignore.

Perry takes that next step when he cuts his down his rate of "WTF was that?" passes.
Yeah still hasn’t quite adjusted to the speed and athleticism of the defense at this level o and floats some passes that were easy in high school

I suggested in the game thread that we go with those two at a point in the game instead of Amari and Brandon, and someone replied "you want to score a 100 points per game?".

I didn't understand why Pope sub in both perry and Noah, and pulled butler and oweh. He has a way to go as a coach IMO. I understood taking oweh out for Noah, and perry for butler. But not at the same time! Keep one strong guard in there!
Imo it was a very dumb move with 16:00 to go in the second half to have a lineup of Brea, perry,Noah,Almanor,Garrison on the floor. Lead was cut from 9 to 3.

Now he gets to teach oweh how to run point!
I was thinking the same thing Popes substitution patterns has much to be desired maybe it wore tenn. out we did pull away at the end great move by coach Pope.

Perry and Noah look like guys you’d see on a Bellarmine roster, but they’re both proving that Kentucky Boys with that Kentucky heart and dream of playing for the big blue, can both be big contributors. If there was a place for guys like Richie Farmer, Travis Ford, Patrick Sparks, Cameron Mills, among others to be contributors here, there’s certainly room for Perry and Noah.

I just don’t think he has the body or athleticism or quickness to ever be good enough to stay in front of SEC-caliber point guards.

I think we’ll be fine giving him minutes during nonconference play, but I just don’t think you can have him in there trading buckets against real competition. If there is a possession in which Perry’s man does not blow by him, it is simply because Perry’s man didn’t try to.
He’s getting better every game, he may never be a lock down defender but neither was Travis Ford and he was pretty good.

Compare Noah with Know or Richmond, who would you prefer?
I’d prefer Noah simply because he will stay 3-4 years and become a great college player. Knox and Richmond are good players but will leave while not ready. I think Richmond could be very good if he doesn’t fall into that trap. Knox seems like the type to go to Europe rather than play 2 years.

Your dislike for Perry and the need to disparage him doesn’t make sense. He’s coming along and his defense wasn’t nearly as bad you’re saying. Relax
Perry's defense isn't nearly as bad as these dudes let on. Even Seth Greenberg was trying to down Perry's defense against Wagner. But had to back track. His defense us no worse than Brea. Perry & Noah just play hard. They both played well

I got bashed for saying we need noah back in the spring. laughed at and told, noah would never amount to much . slow not athletic enough to play here . Anybody with a brain saw the heart in this kid . Noah you're BIG TIME

Noah has played great all year, IMO
Well Noah is leading the team at 53% from 3pt land on the season…and he’s gotten up a decent amount of shots at this point

Perry not shabby either at 40%3pt

Having deep threats is huge../now go get some athletic players, ball handlers, shot blockers, to compliment the roster

His defense was atrocious.
I thought he was better tonight. One time that Ziegler scored was partly due to Garrison getting pinned by his man. Most guards expect at least a fraction of help from the bigs and Garrison was like a high school kid on that play. A lot of times just the presence of a big in the right position will keep a small guard from even attempting to go down into those areas of the floor. He will improve, but outside of Butler, none of our guards are really good defenders.
I mean, this is spot on. And I was saying this in the game thread.

Pope does some dumb ass shit following media timeouts. In past games, it has led to a loss. Tonight we were fortunate that it didn’t.

After a full media timeout, there’s absolutely no reason to run Travis Perry out there.

Pope needs to not be so attached to giving guys a certain amount of minutes, etc. He needs to do more situational coaching. Butler’s defense was elite, and we needed as much of him as possible. If he’s not tired, you play him. And he certainly was not tired after a full media timeout…
Butler had only sit about 30 seconds at our first media timeout. I don't blame Pope for giving him a couple of more minutes during that one.

That "dumb ass shit" and bashing you're giving coach pope . Check this scenario out ,coach pope is looking at the post season and knows we are going to need our entire bench to be successful. I love giving these kids minutes, will pay huge dividends in the future . The way noah and Perry played last night you're getting a glimpse of it .

This! We won last night with Noah and Perry getting plenty of time. They did great and gained a ton of confidence. Last night's game will be more about the next 3 & 1/2 years vs this year.

With more experience and confidence (well, the 2nd part may already be taken care of) they may be our future. Coaching can figure out a way to play them together defensively in the future.

I'm glad they are here and hope they stay (I think they will).

One thing I noticed about Noah, was that when he was in his defensive stance, his arms were extended out and his head was always up. Just good fundamentals. I hope he and Perry Both hit the weight room hard. Noah could become a physical beast if he hits the weighs. need a guy who can be a bully on defense because that seems to be a thing in the SEC.

Pelphrey/Felhaus 2.0?

You like to say ‘we’ a lot in your posts. You try too hard to act like a UK fan. Your comment that Pope does some dumb ass shit was a classic too. If you think Pope does some dumb ass shit then you need to read some of your comments. That’s where I see the dumb ass sh*t. I’m pretty sure 99.9% of the real UK fans think WE are better than what YOU think. Mark Pope is a Rhodes Scholar candidate, a UK National Championship player, and played in the NBA. And you think he’s a dumb ass. Give me a break.

I will say, and not that I want to defend him, but what Pope does seem to do is trust analytics a bit too much over his own gut instinct. He follows what his measurements over time say to do rather than maybe what his eyes are seeing in the moment. I get it. That's analytics. If the stats say you win the highest percentage doing X then you can't just do X when you feel like it or there is no point.

Perry is playing a little out of position imo. He's prolly more of a backup 2G who can shoot. Trying to guard SEC point guards at this point is a big ask. Does he need defensive improvement? Yes.

Perry shooting off the dribble was nice to see. He can do that with ease. His D (imo) is no worse than Kerr.

How much fun was that!? And how much fun must they have had and seeing how well the other was doing too? They are developing nicely. Noah a bit quicker than Perry but I think we've got a couple of good ones if they stick around and develop.
Noah has some quick feet for the size he is. His lateral movement is impressive. I loved his defense. Perry will continue to get better defensively but he will help us big in years to come despite his defense.

Noah and Perry will be tough if they stay and graduate. They will have had 3 years in the UK weight room to strengthen their legs and upper body. At that point they will be playing against guys 2-3 years younger than them, instead of 2-3 years older.
