No wonder cal is recruiting these low ranked guys

You people amaze me. Do you not realize how funny it is you're bringing up a point about Cal recruiting lower ranked guys because our top ranked guys are leaving? So everybody whines when we get the best players and they leave. But everybody still whines when Cal recruits lower ranked guys who may stay awhile. This board is an insufferable oxymoron.

Recruits who are 4 stars and in the top 100 are now equivalent to Johnny David? jwhite123, you're exactly right. Some just argue for the sake of arguing.

[eyeroll] . We might lose 5-8 games but come March we will be rolling . Bamba, Richards, Vanderbilt and Diallo are all considered top 15ish prospects in next year's draft . Green is a great pg , PJ Washington is an amazing defender , rebounder and can shoot and handle well for a PF . We have some talent coming back in Gabriel and at worst one of Hump and SKJ and we will add 1-2 shooters . Alexander is a great back up at guard and will be a pro in a few years. No roster will have more talent . Now we will be an all new team , even moreseo then any team Cal has had except the team with 8 freshmen , and will have a much tougher conference to play in so I expect 1-2 non conference losses and 4-5 conferece losses ( but we win it ) . People are such drama queens.

Just ignore them. If the past ten years haven't taught people anything, your post in a thread won't either.

Their minds are made up and they can't be made happy. Don't let these psychos ruin your favorite hobby.

yep. Any of these "low ranked guys" would have been cause for rejoicing during most of 1998 - 2009. Dancing in the streets.

Is there a safer bet in sports? And yet, they never learn....

It's way too early to assume our top 6-7 players will be freshmen but it that turns out to be true we won't be rolling by March. With that said it's way too early to assume who'll be on the roster so things could change.

Be careful with the "safer bet" comment. If you would have bet the farm on that when Archie Goodwin was tearin' it up you wouldn't have your farm any longer.

7 years out of 8 = pretty safe bet. It it was 8 out of 8, I'd have said "sure thing".

The point is, even if it was 8 out of 8 years, the same people would be whining and complaining.

Chill on the panic button:

Diallo was the top ranked SG in the class. He spent a semester here practicing against Briscoe, Fox, Monk. He's ahead of the curve.

SKJ/Gabriel/Humph give us returning front court players with in game experience.

Any other year people would be telling me how I don't understand how good these kids are. Now they've practiced at college for a year. They've played in real games.

Jesus how is it that after we lose ISAIAH FREAKING BRISCOE that now we are on the road for 10 losses.

I hear ya. I was just messin' with you. The Cal era has been amazing but every year it becomes a little less attractive to me. That's just my opinion and I know there are a lot of people that disagree with me. Cal's an awesome HOF coach but I'm liking the revolving door that we've become a little less every year.

yep, I get that. That's a reasonable observation, in my humble opinion - which is different than the handful around here who whine and complain and say crazy things.....

In my opinion, it shouldn't be a shock that Briscoe is leaving. Heck, he wanted to leave last season but really had no other choice. We will miss him, without a doubt. It now appears that the most crucial thing for next year is that Diallo enrolled early. He's been to all the road venues in the league and he's experienced an SEC Tournament, and he's experienced an NCAA Tournament as well. Though he didn't play, he won't be like a deer in the headlights because he's been there.

Regarding Briscoe, I think this is a good decision. We have 2, possibly even 3, potential small forwards. I really like what I've seen of both PJ Washington and Jared Vanderbilt, and they both have the size Briscoe lacked at that position. Diallo can also play that spot, if needed. If Briscoe were a dead-eye shooter from distance, I'd be crying right now. But we all know that was his achilles. We need shooters to add to what we have coming back.

As for the thought that next season's team will have 10 losses at minimum, 4 things...
1. Even with the team we have right now, there is great potential to be a solid team.
2. It's still possible Bam comes back, which would be a huge deal.
3. We're not even done recruiting. Add Bamba and a shooter or two, this team can be very good.
4. We do have other returnees- Gabriel, Humphries, Wynyard have all shown potential.

There is no doubt we will be young and inexperienced next season, but didn't we all expect that to be the case? I think there are some guys in this incoming class who may surprise some of us with how much they can contribute right away. And if Bam returns and Bamba signs, that is one solid frontcourt. Perhaps we need to wait and see here. It could be better than some are thinking.

That was a team that had Nerlens not gone down with an injury would've made the tourney. Nobody has come close to being as consistently good as Cal since he's been here. Next years team will have as much talent as any team in the country. That's the way Cal likes it and it's hard to argue with the results so far. Take away a few bad breaks and shady officiating and he would have more than one title already. And I don't think it's goIng out on a limb to say he'll have at least one more before he's done at UK.

Yes, this is what I was about to say. We did have one year where we missed the Dance, but Nerlens' injury was directly tied to that.

Guys...... make a mental note of this thread and the OP's posts. Because people seem to not of done that with his prior ones. OP is a troll and lives off of negativity about UK.

What did some of you expect at the start of the season? With 3 Seniors, and 3 FR who everyone expected to go pro--and have, and expect at least 2 others to think of leaving in addition to Briscoe and based on who UK could bring in, it was going to be a massive overhaul this recruiting cycle.

As a fan, I enjoy the talent Cal and staff bring in, and then mold into a team. What he's done is going to help this program for decades after he is gone. You'll basically not be able to turn on any NBA game and avoid seeing several UK players excelling and making hundreds of millions of dollars. He doesn't sacrifice winning to do this and while next coach will have his own approach, it'll make the UK brand even stronger nationwide. We know this is a Blueblood, upper echelon program, but he'll have set up the recruiting brand/name to a point it'll be easier for his successor to get involved in any recruiting battle and have a strong chance.

If you really think the '17 class sucks as bad as some of you think, you'll be pleasantly surprised. And he'll have a team that will keep more kids after next year too--and as we've seen when Cal has blended some experience returning with incoming talent--he succeeds. His two most "blended" teams went 38-2 and won the National Championship and 38-1 with the loss in Final Four. 76-3 with "blended" roster. That's INSANE. I don't include the '10 team due to it having holdovers that weren't his guys--but look at them--like this year they were Elite 8, and the '11 and '14 teams get to Final Four with extreme talent and FR guards leading the way/great role players fitting in. '13 was lone dissapointment and really that was a team taking off until Nerlens was injured--no doubt in my mind they would've made NCAA Tournament and who knows where--but he's only missed at minimum the Elite 8 one other time--and that team had several "Vets" playing roles--Ulis, Poythress, Lee, Hawkins, Willis.....so his team most reliant on returning guys to play big roles loses in 2nd Rd and everyone is upset over roster turnover?

Spoiled. If you keep knocking on the door, you'll eventually break it down. Remember days when Billy Donovan was known for gagging in the NCAA's? Jay Wright? Coach K went to Final Four in '86, '88, '89, '90 (beatdown to UNLV) and grand total of 2-4 record, 2 losses in NC Game before '91-92. Then he lost in '94 Final, '99 Final, with down cycle in between, was upset in 2000 Sweet 16 and '02 Sweet 16 but got the Title in '01 in between, and blew a 9 pt lead with 3 minutes left in '04 Final Four, before returning in '10 and then '15 to win. So the guy with most current championships has had to get his 5 from 1983-2017. Cal's going into his 9th year and already provided #8. He will win UK at least 1 more title if he stays through his contract extension and how many coaches have multiple titles in history of the sport? Roy Williams was seen as a failure at Kansas--and look how its worked for him at UNC. He has lost in Elite 8 several times and Final Four too. Just keep pushing and it'll break down Pitino 92-95 and then set the tone for 96-98 which is still one of the most understated and great runs in CBB history that isn't talked about enough. One OT period from a 3peat! (yes I know Tubby coached in '98 but that was Pitino's talent)

Enjoy the journey, keep fighting and that makes the euphoria of winning even sweeter!

Does everyone realize that the overall talent level of College Basketball is going to be gutted next year? The incoming class overall is not good. So many players declaring and a ton of upperclassmen are graduating. It happens. Next year reminds me of 2013, when College basketball was down and the freshmen class was not good. UK struggled but because it didn't have a PG and our best player tore his ACL.
