No Pitino. No Duke. No BYU. No louisville. No Arkansas.

The idea we always have these crazy match-ups and tough brackets is pure paranoia by some.
After the 1st round, we could have to play 3 teams(Texas, UT, Gonzaga) we have previously played to get to the Final 4, one we've beaten twice. That is odd in this day and age.

I still remember having to beat Bama and LSU 4 times to reach the Final 4. That LSU loss is one of the MOST painful of my lifetime!!!

Kenny "Sky' Walkers last game. 😭 😭 😭

Convinced we stop Louisville from getting #2 if we had played anyone else that we hadn’t beaten three times already.

The storyline thing was always a bunch of nonsense.

After you factor in the seed listing and the bracket rules, what I always do every year is go team by team and see where everyone got placed.

Doing this exercise you quickly realize it's not about storylines......it's just common sense why teams go where they go after applying the bracket rules.

Remember it well. Loved that 86 team.

It’s basically become an annual tradition for the BBN to try to concoct some angle upon which we can claim the committee has it in for us.

I find that paranoia streak to be the least endearing trait of our fan base.

The looney tunes theory that the NCAA set up that LSU matchup is so laughable …. yet I’ve been seeing our fans pushing it for four decades now.

That LSU team was a mere 11 seed that barely squeezed into the tourney. We were a 1 seed on the opposite side of that bracket. The odds that we’d meet in the elite 8 seemed infinitesimally small on Selection Sunday. Nobody thought LSU would get far enough to play us.

It’s funny, usually a 1 seed would consider themselves incredibly lucky to get a mere 11 seed in the Elite 8. Yet the paranoid wing of our fan base managed to twist it into a claim that it proves how the NCAA was out to screw us. LOL

Only if we had more blood flowing than in this tournament. Louisville beat the ever loving hell out of everyone they played. This tournament is insane. It’s kinda like it’s fixed or something??

We have a lot of posters who are constantly looking for reasons to play the victim.

But ..........they also sent Alabama to the East to be Duke's number 2.

Clearly the NCAA is trying to give Duke a favorable bracket there.

Maybe it was Cal.

We may have gotten the easiest bracket for the first time in a while.

Cal has to beat two GOAT coaches.

St. John’s is tough. Pitino once again saves and rebuilds a program into a legit post season threat.

I’m not entirely sure we do have the easiest bracket.

I guess it’s perceived that way since our 2 is a team we’ve beaten twice already and the 1 is not named Duke or Florida.

But those are still very strong teams.

Houston gives teams fits on defense.

I disagree.

If the SC sees the opportunity, they will will absolutely place teams in certain spots to create story lines. It makes for good basketball.

At the very least, they do not shy away from story lines that present themselves. This year, they could have easily replaced Arkansas with New Mexico or Utah State as the 10 seed out West or put UCLA as the 7 seed instead of KU. Those teams make more sense in the West, but they saw an opportunity to get to Hall of Fame coaches playing in the first round and then going up against another Hall of Famer in the second round. That makes for good ratings. Which means dollars. Which is what this is all about.

It was one of the most painful losses in my memory too. We would have played Louisville in the Final Four if we win that game.

I’ve not fully looked at it yet but I’m 100% sure there was a reason Arkansas went where they did and it had nothing to do with a Self Cal 1st round game.

And where teams go is more based on the first two rounds site, not the regional. The region you go to is more dependent on where you are on a particular seed line.

If you don’t think the SC tweaks things to add to the entertainment side of the whole tournament, I don’t know what to tell you. This is an event. Events organizers do whatever they can to draw crowds and secure eyeballs for television.

They might not blatantly change things around, but I bet they manipulate things to help with ratings.

I feel like the tournament writes it's own storyline.

The other thing is while a Cal vs Self 1st round match up looks appealing or a Cal vs Pitino 2nd round, no one is watching this for that storyline other than the ones that already planned on watching.

It's just knowing the process the committee goes through and the bracketing rules and procedures, it's not really as simple as one would think to "manipulate" it.

You can basically go down the seed listing from 1 through 68, apply the bracket rules and apply geography and easily make sense as to why teams get sent where they do. In fact the actual bracketing........they spent so much time on figuring out who they want in this thing along with the seeding that a computer program basically takes care of the bracketing itself.

Actually last year was an easy bracket and we got the easiest of all bracket breaks the Shai season but couldn't beat KSU. We haven't gotten that tough a bracket in a while . Also we usually do really well when we do get a tough bracket. Toughest road we ever had in 14 we make the title game then lose to the lowest seed we played till then other than 1st game.
