"No eligibility concerns for Zion"

giphy.gif

After the NCAA cleared Bagley in record time, was there ever any doubt how Zion's situation would be handled? Hell, at this rate, if I were Duke, I'd bring back Okafor, Winslow, and Tyus Jones. The NCAA would see to it that they're eligible.

Well, when Kevin White speaks, the NCAA listens. Yes, Puke expects Zion to be eligible, because the NCAA has always done what was best for Puke. This time may be a little different, if the media keeps this in front of the public.

Truthfully Kansas is probably lucky Duke got brought into this. The whole f’n thing will get wiped from history now that Duke’s name was invoked. Best possible scenario for Kansas.

Actually they work in the reverse. This scandal is so widespread the NCAA must act in some way. Usually that would be Cleveland State, but in this situation Kansas is the perfect option, unless they think Louisville will suffice.

Remember, the NCAA loves Self, and he will be their next K in terms of favoritism. But they dont care about Kansas as a program. It's not like UNC where they protect both.

That's just someone from Duke saying that. Doesn't mean anything.

Who would know better that their program is untouchable.

The average Duke fan doesn't know anything about the rules on the books because they know their historical position within the law. Which is, it doesn't apply. They've been caught breaking rules but to them they are more like bendable guidelines depending on differing factors. It's never applied to them in black and white.

For example, at Duke, who knew what, when, and where matters. At other programs not named UNC it doesn't. That's a fact, not an opinion.

So they would know better than anyone the rules dont apply, in a subconscious way.

Did anyone expect them to say anything else?
Yes, in fact many people do. Perhaps state they are looking into it and at least make it seem like they're doing their own due diligence on the reports (even if they aren't). Then come out with this little statement.

Deny, deny, deny. That's the MO for today's world, for everyone. And it's been oddly successful, even for those caught red-handed.

Actually, the best scenario was when LSU was brought in. KU and Duke will both walk clean and LSU will take the brunt of the "findings" that come from the trial. Notice that the only article on ESPN on the new evidence leaking from the trial this week was headlined with Wade and LSU. Then buried deep in that article was a paragraph or so about Zion and Duke, and KU and Townsend. The purpose is to not have clicks in there from people curious about Duke/KU, as they see it as just being about lowly ole LSU and some new coach.

LSU and UL are this year's goats. They'll be the ones that take it all for the other schools, while Puke and KU slips into the future with nothing at all happening to them.

You can thank lawyers for that. The system has been bastardized and everyone wants to remain as quiet as possible and collect theirs. No one wants to get muddy.

"You can indict a ham sandwich"

Because it's that easy, people are timid and unwilling to have the courage to tackle bold choices.

In 1960 it was believed to be trashy and low life to walk around suing people, today its standard. And we are dealing with the consequences.

We joke around about Duke being untouchable, but it really isn’t a joke. Doesn’t matter. Duke’s name comes up and the swiftness of sweeping it under the rug is staggering.
They are untouchable. By the NCAA and the media.

Now, if everything being the same, except Williamson signed with U.K., how big of a story would this be.

Kentucky would get hammered by every effin Patricia Ford and Penis Thamel out there.

Not to mention the NCAA penalties.

The NCAA has not made any decisions yet, this is just Duke talking but I believe like the rest if you that Duke & Kansas will get by with any of this. LSU & UL will get the blunt of this by the NCAA.

Starting to think their recruiting pitch is "we can get you whatever you and your family need, and the NCAA is scared of us so don't worry about there ever being any issues."

I'm thinking they use the "we are a private institution, so we are not held to the same policies/guidelines/rules as public institutions". Somehow they are using this "loophole" to get away with anything they want.

I'm sure we should all believe whatever Duke says, after K's "GET OFF MY LAWN!" moment the other day.

The message that we're supposed to take from this is that KU is such a horrible place to live and play basketball, that it would take a pile of cash, and a house, and jobs for Zion's family to get him to play there over playing for free at Duke......AND HE STILL CHOSE DUKE! Damn, what an amazing program Duke has. Seriously. [laughing]

So they get an unfair advantage over public schools!? Why have an ncaa?? GO CATS!!

This is what arbitrary enforcement looks like. See UNC for another example.

I really wish Calipari had gone ahead and played Enes Kanter and then, dared the NCAA to sanction UK under threat of a law suit....rant over, sorry.

But just say you came for “The Brotherhood.”

Biggest load of crap ever.

No one cleared anyone. Actually read the articles instead of replying to the title. The quote in the title isn't even real. No one in the story says that.

“All Duke student-athletes are subject to a thorough review to ensure their eligibility,” Duke athletic director Kevin White said in a statement emailed to The News & Observer.

“In men’s basketball, for the past several summers, Duke compliance officials, top recruits and their families have engaged in and cooperated fully with the NCAA Eligibility Center’s enhanced amateurism certification process. Duke works closely with the NCAA and the Atlantic Coast Conference on all compliance and eligibility matters. As we have stated in the past, we have an uncompromising commitment to compliance in athletics.”

Exactly. That's two of three main programs to compete and keep Cal and UK from rattling off national titles. Their only hope really.

Do the names Maggette,Thomas and Sulaimon ring any bells?

Why do you think he shocked the world as he said by going to Duke? He knew he wouldn't get even a sniff from the NCAA if he played for Coach Krook.

Amazing how fast they came to this decision. If this isn't proof that they would never look anything Duke related, I don't know what else to say. This is honestly a combination of pathetically sad and infuriating.

Well the NCAA still has the rubber stamp so they might as well keep using it.
