I haven't seen a lot posted on this, but effective about 3 wks ago there will be no more National Letters of intent for NCAA Division 1 players, effective immediately.
So basically the whole signing day thing isn't real anymore.
My daughter plays soccer and here's my understanding for her sport.
1. She will not be signing a National Letter of Intent. She will be signing a document accepting athletic aid to the school, like any scholarship that any other student has for academics.
2. While the school is now committed to pay that amount for her when she arrives on campus, the agreement is basically on a semester by semester basis and coaches will decide at the end of each semester if she still has aid.
3. She is signing Nov 13, but could sign any day or any time from the date she is allowed to be recruited by the school.
4. Other schools can still recruit her up till the day she steps on campus! Her signed document is for athletic aid and if a better offer comes along, she is free to take that offer without needing to get a release to go to that school. She is longer locked into a school.
5. The schools are no longer on the hook for yearly or 4 year commitments for athletic aid. It is now semester by semester.

For soccer, the implications are interesting. For football, this will be chaos with the coaches never really knowing who will actually show up on campus.
Have there been things from UK Football people on how they plan to handle this? Maybe they can lock them in earlier with NIL deals. The shenanigans will be epic between schools. This will truly be open market athletic recruiting for the bigtime sports.
