Nick Richards on ESPNU at 11am

Richards and Bamba do not compliment each other as they are both going to block a lot of shots and be raw on offense. They do compliment guys like Washington Vanderbilt and Knox however and would be amazing to have on this years team. It will be nice having an elite shot blocker back as we did from 2012-2015.

lmao at folks who think.though richards and bamba would play at the same time. both are clear centers, end of stories. richards is a decent back up while bamba starts. humphries can redshirt. WG and SKJ will be the PFs. PJ and Vanderbilt the SFs.

Who scores points at the 5 next year? None of the guys we have recruited or returning have an offensive game. But if they can play defense and block shots, that would be a big plus over this year.

Add Green and Alexander at PG, and Diallo at SG. Wouldn't be upset if we get another SG if we don't get Knox.

Bam wasn't supposed to be incredibly offensively skilled (though his potential has always been there) but he's up to almost 14ppg. All guys like Richards and Bamba need is a consistent hook shot. 98% of defenders in college can't guard a 7 footer with a hook shot. Bam is developing it, WCS developed it (after some time), Davis developed it, so will Richards and Bamba if he decides to come. I'm not worried about the center position being more than 10ppg and if we get Bamba on top of Richards and an existing Humphries, we'll easily get 10ppg out of that position. The wing is where our points will come.

Bamba is a PF. Clear and simple. Doesn't mean he can't play center as Bam is a PF playing center as well as was AD ect. Richards is much better on offense then he has shown in this game. He looked today like he looked maybe a year ago but he has recieved a ton of praise due to his growth leaps and bounds since then. Bamba and Richards with Vanderbilt/Knox/or gabriel at SF would be maybe Cal's best starting defensive line ever . I do think they could start together but at the same time PJ is going to be our leading scorer in terms of bigs and he will play a ton and it is hard not starting him as he is IMO one of the top 6 seniors in HS.

If I had to guess the averages from Richards and Bamba next season I would think

Richards 12/8/3 ( blocks)
Bamba 13/7/2 ( blocks)
but I think PJ will be the 2nd leading scorer at 17 and 6 ( Diallo will be the leading scorer at 19 or so.)

P.S. LMAO at Humphries redshirting.

Now that Richards has fouled out, HE is sulking on the bench (at times appears not to even be watching the game, looking at floor, while teammates on bench are up cheering) just as Carter did earlier after foul call which several criticized him for.

Why? Not b/c he's a UK recruit and Carter wasn't b/c he's a Duke recruit. It's b/c they're both KIDS...and as elite kids, pretty pampered and likely a little self-absorbed.

Carter got the bulk of his points from FT's. didn't really get to see them much against each other. Richards has a little git of a chip kind of like Magloire did. I like that.

Bam is turning into a real scorer but simply doesn't get enough shots. I would be happy if 2 of our guys next year gives us what Bam does scoring wise. Not sure what Humphries will turn into. Thought he would be better than he has shown. Nobody, and I mean nobody has any idea about SKJ. If they think they do, they would be telling tales. He is evidently so far behind that he gets the same minutes as Brad C.

I do think they (assuming we get Bamba) will be better rebounders and defenders. Nothing wrong with that. One of our biggest weaknesses this year is not having a rim protector because guards constantly get to the rim on us.

I also think Richards is not a one and done, which is OK with me. But with KY, everyone is a one and done until they are not.

Sorry, Silents; I'll put my blue-tinted glasses back on.

There. Everything THEY do is wrong! Oops; our guy did something their guy just did that we crucified him for -- I mean, when their guy does it, he's a pompous a**, our guy is just ultra-competitive and shows he hates it when he can't be out there for his team.

Is that better?

I saw Richards as stoic. Never noticed him sulking.

Carter has some skill but K will have to reign him in. His rebounding and foul shooting will serve him well.

Carter got the bulk of his points at the free throw line because he knew how to post up which Richards needs to learn. I am happy we have Richards but at this stage, Carter has some great fundamentals as well as a great shooting touch, and Richards has to learn those fundamentals (from rebounding with two hands, posting up or getting in a position to score, more mobility, etc). If you didn't see the differences your glasses are way too blue. Just be objective and none of this is to say Richards won't be good, or great, or ultimately better than Carter, who knows? But, at present, the differences were significant.
If SKJ stays he will start over Richards and Richards may have a similar learning experience as seemingly SKJ is having to endure at present. I won't count my Bamba's until they are hatched.

It's also because Carter shot about 10 three pointers, and missed almost all of them. And I agreed about Richards. As I said, he didn't start playing until he was 14, so entirely understandable.

I don't see the SKJ/Richards connection.

SKJ has always been someone who wanted to float a bit, face up and shoot jumpers.

Richards is already comfortable in his role as a Big who runs from block to block. That is 2/3rd's of the battle.

I think the comparison I've seen as a "more athletic Dakari" is apt.

I know Cal has had logjams at various positions before, but next year at center will be crazy. As some have already said Bamba and Richards are centers only. Humphries is a center only and Wynyard is a center only. Skj way be able to play some PF next year. Just a lot of schollies spent on one position. I know you take Bamba if he willing to come, just wish Cal could have pulled in some more guards. Hopefully he has something up his sleeve, I mean if something happens to Green Vanderbilt is running the point.

Alexander can run the point, though it's not ideal. Cross your fingers nothing happens to Green.

I just think alot of people are still rubbed wrong by Carter after this summer him saying he is going to use whatever school he goes to just like they will be using him. Will say this in regards to Carter outplaying Richards and? Carter will not be allowed to play like that in college he will have to have an inside game especially at duke. Anyone here Biancardi say coach k on a recruiting visit asked Carter who he thought his game was like and Carter said Anthony Davis and K said well I see you as more of a Jabari Parker and to not lock himself into one position. Omg are you kidding? Positionless basketball now K come on u do know these kids will expect these things to happen Bolden expected to be a one and done so did Jackson. Carter thinks ur gonna let him park his butt on the peremeter and shoot 3s and drive. Lol Boldens butt next year will be parked on the bench watching Carter play center and him be back up and probably still be there his jr year and Jackson will be the best second year player since Grayson Allen! Lol

Bamba Richards would be very similar to Noel Stein. Alexander is capable at the one. Hope to add another guard.
