Update (5:25 p.m.): Most in Hattiesburg believe the Alcorn State coach is the most likely choice.
According to the publisher of Lanny Mixon, the publisher of Southern Miss' Rivals site (BigGoldNation.com), new Kentucky assistant head coach for offense/offensive coordinator/running backs coach Eddie Gran is one of the two current targets of the Golden Eagles for their head coaching position.
Bruce Feldman has sources that are undeniably legitimate and two days ago he reported that contrary to reports Gran was not in the mix for the job.
Mixon told me today that this news is after USM was apparently turned down by Florida offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier. Apparently Southern Miss is now interested in two candidates: Eddie Gran and current Alcorn State coach Jay Hopson.
Note: I am not saying that means Gran is interested. I am saying that according to Mixon these are the top two candidates in the minds of the Southern Miss decision makers.
But apparently there is expected to be some movement here in the coming hours. What does that mean? Does it mean Southern Miss will move to offer the job to one of the two coaches? Does it mean they expect a choice to be made?
NOTE: I do not expect Eddie Gran to be interested. He is just WANTED.
