New Big Man Option: Kentucky In On 2020 Big Frank Anselem

If someone thinks this guy will be the solution to the big man issues for next season, well....I'm not quite sure what to tell them.

I don't believe he will.

That being said, I don't mind the idea of adding another 2-3 year guy who can develop over time.

Won't help for next year a ton, but 2 or 3 years from now could be a very nice piece.

Maybe this is the proverbial "trick up Cal's sleeve", but I wouldn't bet the farm the kid is ready for the big stage or ready to play starter's minutes.

Either way, we need to get at least one serviceable big on the team; let KP work with him, you never know, he could be a quick learner and help us this year, however unlikely that may be.

4-star ranked #85 composite. 6’10, 220.

Would be a backup to Jackson at the 5, I would think.

I mean this is our fanbase's issue though (and not meaning to call you out in particular, but I see this all over the board).

We beg for Cal to bring in multi-year guys who can be paired WITH the top 5 stars every year.

And then when they come up, so many on here just say "meh" or "not good enough" etc. etc. etc.

We can't have it both ways.

I'd be a fan if we add him, would be a nice piece for the future.

He's a California kid. Even if he does come here he'll transfer back home when the season ends.

This is where we are now with UK basketball. Everyone either transfers or leaves when they're barely projected to get drafted, and now we're scrambling to get the 133rd ranked player in the class of 2020.

The issue isn't that fans aren't happy about them, it's that those guys who we've been bringing in the last 4-5 years who we thought would be here for the long haul have either transferred or they leave for the draft when they won't even get drafted. It's frustrating.

I'm fine with adding guys like Toppin. It's just that at this moment we need a guy ready to start now at center and I don't see it with this kid.

Problem is, even guys like this leave after 2 years here.

This doesn't happen at any other school and I wish I understood why. Everyone likes to make money, but we're the only school losing guys to the GL after 2 years in which they average less than 10ppg.

Good points and half our fanbase has no idea how the game is played. Like zero.

Oh let me play:

Done deal.

Wait, went somewhere else. I was right, but he changed his mind.

He's actually from Georgia, not a west coast kid

The reason everyone says they aren't good enough is because nobody stays. It's rare that a guy stays 3 years here and when they do, a couple of 5* kids are brought in that take their minutes.

So that means every kid that comes in here needs to be elite or be happy with spot minutes. Nobody worth a damn is going to be happy with spot minutes. Even Juzang, who knew he was an impact player, left because he knew Clarke and Boston were going to cut his playing time.

So yeah, it's tough to get excited about a 4* kid when they don't survive here long enough for us to ever see them play.

I know somebody will toss out a name, but they can't toss out very many. The only kids that are good with just slipping on that UK jersey and playing spot minutes for 4 years are kids that grew up in Kentucky.

If this kid comes here, he'll most likely transfer within 2 years.

Yes. I mean if you watch the kid play, it’s evident that he’s an elite low post scorer. For his age, his footwork is unreal. If he comes here, KP likely transforms into the first big drafted.
oh for sure if we land him he’d probably go #1 and reignite the big men coming to UK he reminds me of Karl Towns

I thought the same thing and I am not singling the poster. It's the mentality in general. They say we have to get the top talent. Well, Cal did that. Clarke and Boston are as dynamic as there are.
Then they say Cal must get multi year players and then wjhen a kid that is likely just that, the response is "meh" or "no thanks" or etc.
Our fanbase is bipolar.....[laughing]

We should just tell Junior Big men.. "Hey come to Kentucky early and go Pro after just 1 season!"

What? It's not like they won't try anyways. Let's sell it. And we can even write in the fine print: "G-League and Euro teams count as pro ball.."

"Would you rather have a reclass big or Kentucky hold out in hopes of a one-time transfer with the new rule possibly being passed?"

Well seeing as we won't know who, if any bigs will enter into the portal, (I'm talking about immediate impact bigs; I'm sure there will be bigs to enter), I'm about at the point of signing, if we can of course, the best reclass big we can and work with him diligently. If nothing else he'd provide at least some depth at the 5.
