Nets were going to commit to Diallo in 1st

It's hilarious how some are crying about getting called out after savaging this kid with zero information. Not all of the ones complaining were that ugly about it, but some were. But we are supposed to just forget what they said and stare into the MIB neurolyzer.

I'll respond to this post because you're definitely one of the more understanding posters.

Diallo did what he said he'd do, and I doubted strongly how much he wanted to be here. What's made me happiest of all was reading his comments about returning and playing for UK. He wants to be here, and some will have to forgive me but after Briscoe's comments and leaving without a draft pick, watching last years team laughing while getting beat by 20 ( I know some roll eyes here but I hated it), and then a potential none and done who possibly used UK ( no one knew for sure), some of the issues the last few years just seemed to get to some people; especially while averaging a sweet 16 the last few years (below our usual).

After 8 years of Cal, I think there is just some build up. I know fans who don't like the system, sure. When they see UNC and Duke winning championships the last 5 years, then teams like Villanova (with upperclassman) winning it, they grow tired. Throw in a potential none and done? I mean come on, you see where I'm going. Not speaking about myself personally, but I understand what those guys are feeling. Not saying they are correct, or totally incorrect.

Calipari is a lightening Rod, and he's changed the entire culture of college basketball. I expect men who've followed Kentucky for 50 + years to have trouble with this.

I hate seeing younger fans attack and rip up our older ones over these misunderstandings ( and that's a lot of what's happening). I don't think Cal would want that either.

Morgousky, I am talking about the few who assumed the worst and repeatedly bashed him based off nothing but conjecture. They were wrong and look like idiots. I am not willing to just let them off the hook, because it revealed that they are ugly people who add nothing to this board.

Agreed and I'm not talking about the few extremes. The attacks have ventured into a different neighborhood. Im responded to you but the post was directed in a general sense. There's some decent posters being labled horrible things that just want what's best for UK in the end. Those are the ones I was speaking toward.

And to be fair, I hope @brianpoe didn't get some sort of ban. He had hit right, and had plenty of rope to ride that train. Some of us went out on the ledge on this one, regardless of reasoning. That situation got tense, if anyone gets a ban out of all that, it shouldn't be him.

The funniest thing is a handful of the really dumb ones doubled down last night after it was obvious Diallo was coming back and even made themselves look dumber by continuing to attack him or say they didn't want him . Diallo went about this like an intelligent businessman and made the smart choice and no one should ever of attacked him for doing that. Basketball is the game these young men love but it is also how they are trying to bring generational wealth to their family and we can't be short sighted about that.
Generational wealth, too the Millennial Generation? A few get what they have in their possession most dont....most of this generation think their "entitled"....

Why do you have to be so negative?

Seriously, just be glad he came back and quit being an ahole. You're no better then the fans that we're bitching about this whole situation.

I don't want Diallo.

He's not a Cat.

He's basically Daniel Orton. He screwed the program by not finishing the semester.

Diallo is not much different. Good luck and adios.

Makes Diallo look even more committed to his original plan (the one that many claim was a ruse).

Speculation on my side, but it seems that the Nets were likely to draft him but wouldn't give a 100% guarantee, in case a more coveted target slipped.

Glad he chose not to risk it.
Yep but somebody would have taken him at least early second round and they would have gave him a guaranteed contract. Basically have it would be the equivalent to a non lottery team who most likely wouldn't be lottery next season getting a lottery caliber player a year early. So their is some truth about him actually sticking very closely to the original plan

You were the one being negative. Or do you not remember? Absolutely pathetic. Please never pull for someone else

If Jaylen Brown can go #3 in the draft, being 6'7"with a 7'0" wingspan, no jump shaky handles, then Diallo can go top 15 at 6'5" with a 6'11" and a better vertical.

Length-wise, their the same guy, although Brown is stronger, but hopefully you get my overall point that there's a place for freak athletes with crazy length.

I recommend making a list of names and keeping it somewhere. Seriously. It would be worth the time.

I speculated on both sides of the argument, which I’ve been taught to do as a teacher. Some may not have enjoyed that type of analysis, but my major premise was and still is that I want to see great players play at UK. I'm very excited that Diallo is returning.

That said, Calipari has never had a collection of wings on this level. Diallo/Alexander/Vanderbilt/Knox and to some extent – Washington/Gabriel. That’s six hyper-athletic 6’5” to 6’9” guys who can play multiple positions, defend multiple positions, and consistently make each other better in practice.

UK will have matchup advantages all over the court. How does an opposing coach prepare for that?

Yes, it appears I might need to stop reading tea leaves and chicken feet.

Who knows if the Nets would have drafted him in the first, but it seems pretty clear he was looking at at least early 2nd with similar money and a guaranteed contract. Turning that down to come back at least suggest he may indeed have a desire to try and lead UK to a title, or at least another great season. I think he'll be all about the team's success. If he's not Cal will correct that, and just point out that AD went #1 while being the 4th leading scorer.

Neuralizer is great.
After a bad day, it helps. But I can never remember where I parked.

And my favorite poster is that tool Cuts-Nets. Was extremely disappointed to find out he is still posting.

who is that UL sum beotch now? I dont see anyone posting exactly like him but then again he probably changed trolling tactics after myself and a couple others used posts from years ago to catch him as a UL troll.

Ultimately I believe Diallo would have been drafted first round. But here's a kid taking a chance on playing a year of college hoops, where injury or a bad luck season could hurt his future. A kid with a lot of pressure. Here's hoping the BBN backs him all the way. And I truly believe, Diallo wants the title as much as his coach and fans want.

Let's do this!

diallo would have gone first round, guaranteeing him millions. its so refreshing to see that money isnt everything.
Good post. But more than that, I just wish fans could see or live the life of some of these TEENAGERS and then make comments. There's pressure enough on some young athletes just to get a scholarship and play D1 hoops or sports. Could not even fathom the pressure with all the handlers and money dangling from the NBA for those fortunate elite talents.

He is responding to the situation as it played out; can't say he's being truly negative per se. The evaluation of fan reaction is true, it's all here, to be seen.
I couldn't grasp the concept of people being angry, upset, jealous?, of fans bemoaning his possible departure. You live at subsistence level, and think a million.2 contract is a life changer(or more), you take it.
Problems arise when that number drops to 750k and you bought...exotic car, watches, place to live, fulfill that promise to mom, etc(no mention of day to day expenses or posse-hope not).
Anyway, glad he's back, never attacked him and defended his approach to this. I wish ppl could walk a few yards in another's shoes, before all the vitriol. The system uses these kids, he nearly beat the system, and not a single person on this board went to school to help the school: that's simply not true of life.
Earned near 700k a few years, and taxes beat the crap out of you. Had years where I had the cash to buy my lot for my hone(110k), another where I spent 80k to finish/ furnish a basement, have a 60k concrete driveway, cash. Home expenses for the McMansion can gobble you up, and this assumes a nonextravagent life style of clothes, car, night life. Point is not one of bragging, but to show that money level isn't what people think it is. A million dollar contract annually, if you're investing and putting money into a home, doesn't put you in Ferrari range. Could easily get into major cc debt eating out every night.
I have always been a saver, but that's likely an exception in pro sports. Kid sees a contract number, doesn't think of taxes, agent fees...who here at 18 wouldn't have been tempted by opportunity?

All that money and can't even buy a vowel

All that money and can't even buy a vowel
I can buy more than you, but sorry if I had a typo in there. I can buy a mission trip to Jamaica annually, to build homes for physically and mentally handicapped people who are abandoned at 18 in a country that doesn't have a system to care for them. I can buy my kids college education, 4 years before the first one is ready to start. I can "buy" the decision to treat a patient for free because his father has kidney failure and his mom doesn't have insurance for his healthcare. I can buy expensive trips or clothes, but still wear shirts that are 27 years old.
Have a good day, wish a could buy a cure for you being an a$$hole. Hope you feel better, hear that condition can be tough.

While I agree with you about looking through the eyes of these kids when considering their decision making process, let's not go overboard with our empathy for their plight.

They are getting a free college education at imo the best university in the world, playing basketball for the best program in the world, and very soon will be making millions to play a game for a living. If only every teenager had it so "rough."

this is a horrible opinion.

Scholarships are a business transaction. The kids agree to provide their athletic ability to play for a college while the colleges profits from revenue for ticket and product sales. It is called recruiting for a reason.

I'm talking about the decision making process that's based on their situation and not ours as fans. Diallo made a decision that wasn't easy and I as fan will be right there cheering and supporting him as I do all players that select to play for BBN.

Dude I was one of them, dont give a shit what you say and Im sure many others do not either. You have a different opinion, nobody is whining about that like you are. Most are able to say what they think and feel and move on without arguing. You obviously arent one of them. Probably a DIE HARD HILLARY supporter. I also love how you say posters like myself were basically posting with no fact...I linked several articles and comments by Diallo himself that supported my claims. Get over yourself, people are allowed to have opinions that arent the same as yours! You throughout history on this board have bashed, name called and whined like a damn woman! NOBODY CARES WHAT YOU THINK!!!!

Why do some idiots continue to bring politics into every thread?

The only question I'd like to have answered is "What was the reasoning for waiting until 11:40 pm to announce your return?"

Was he still talking to other teams?

Trying to maximize publicity for his announcement?

I just don't understand the point if waiting so late if he knew he would be in Lexington much earlier in the day.

I'm not dissing Diallo at all. I am really intrigued as to the reasoning for waiting and hope he eventually let's the fan base know why it took so late to make his official announcement.

That is the only thing that still confuses the crap out of me while reading the statements he has put out since returning.

All in my completely worthless opinion as always.

It's his decision. It's his life. And he's now set to rep UK. Not Kansas. Not UNC. Kentucky.

Because he protests any post that he doesnt agree with. Also, same goes for you....internet tough guy, name calling. U are prob one too!
