Nets were going to commit to Diallo in 1st

Makes Diallo look even more committed to his original plan (the one that many claim was a ruse).

Speculation on my side, but it seems that the Nets were likely to draft him but wouldn't give a 100% guarantee, in case a more coveted target slipped.

Glad he chose not to risk it.

Diallo did everything he said he would. Nothing more, nothing less. Kentucky just has some of the dumbest fans in sports, in addition to having some of the most intelligent fans in sports. The intelligent UK fans waited for Diallo's decision, while the dumb ones talked, talked, talked, insulting the guy, his family, Coach Cal, etc. Now the dumb ones get to cheer for Diallo and hope no one remembers who they are. They will be easy to spot though as they will bash him when he has off games.

Why do you have to be so negative?

Seriously, just be glad he came back and quit being an ahole. You're no better then the fans that we're bitching about this whole situation.

Diallo did the right thing, and will earn him millions. His measurables aren't going to change but he can showcase himself as an elite defender and improving shooter and move into lottery range with ease. Cal will make sure he is given the opportunity to shine.

The funniest thing is a handful of the really dumb ones doubled down last night after it was obvious Diallo was coming back and even made themselves look dumber by continuing to attack him or say they didn't want him . Diallo went about this like an intelligent businessman and made the smart choice and no one should ever of attacked him for doing that. Basketball is the game these young men love but it is also how they are trying to bring generational wealth to their family and we can't be short sighted about that.

Umm Yes he is. As am I. You people were the negatives as soon as he decleared for the draft.

It's hilarious how some are crying about getting called out after savaging this kid with zero information. Not all of the ones complaining were that ugly about it, but some were. But we are supposed to just forget what they said and stare into the MIB neurolyzer.

The fact that Diallo was even being considered for the first round of the NBA draft should tell you Cal is bringing in a kid to Kentucky that has major talent, how can any Kentucky fan not want that for next season? The kid has the tools to become special. While it is true Diallo needs to improve his shooting, it's not unheard of when a player works on it and becomes a good outside shooter. That probably won't happen during his freshman season at Kentucky, but if Diallo can just become decent from deep, we will be okay and hard to beat. The kid should be elite while playing defense. Cal could turn Diallo into a defensive stopper for Kentucky next season.

Yep, Josh Jackson improved his outside shot quite a bit last season.

Diallo tweeted last night that there was no way he was going to play for the Nets.

That statement shoots down ANY of the talk that Hami doesn't have confidence in his ability to be at least a lottery pick in next seasons draft. He must feel confident that coming back to UK will provide him with the platform to prove he can reach a higher goal.

I'm ELATED that he is hungry to prove he's a great player and team mate.

Have to admit I'm surprised Diallo turned down the Nets IF they promised to draft him. Takes a lot of self confidence to do that, which I like.

He is responding to the situation as it played out; can't say he's being truly negative per se. The evaluation of fan reaction is true, it's all here, to be seen.
I couldn't grasp the concept of people being angry, upset, jealous?, of fans bemoaning his possible departure. You live at subsistence level, and think a million.2 contract is a life changer(or more), you take it.
Problems arise when that number drops to 750k and you bought...exotic car, watches, place to live, fulfill that promise to mom, etc(no mention of day to day expenses or posse-hope not).
Anyway, glad he's back, never attacked him and defended his approach to this. I wish ppl could walk a few yards in another's shoes, before all the vitriol. The system uses these kids, he nearly beat the system, and not a single person on this board went to school to help the school: that's simply not true of life.
Earned near 700k a few years, and taxes beat the crap out of you. Had years where I had the cash to buy my lot for my hone(110k), another where I spent 80k to finish/ furnish a basement, have a 60k concrete driveway, cash. Home expenses for the McMansion can gobble you up, and this assumes a nonextravagent life style of clothes, car, night life. Point is not one of bragging, but to show that money level isn't what people think it is. A million dollar contract annually, if you're investing and putting money into a home, doesn't put you in Ferrari range. Could easily get into major cc debt eating out every night.
I have always been a saver, but that's likely an exception in pro sports. Kid sees a contract number, doesn't think of taxes, agent fees...who here at 18 wouldn't have been tempted by opportunity?

I agree to an extent but there were things that were frustrating on Diallo or Cal's end. Waiting until the last day to declare for the draft when supposedly it was his plan all along? I don't get that but whatever.

Did fans actually assault Dallio, and Cal? I cant say ive seen every post on here regarding Dallio.
What i did see is fans disagreeing with the situation. Actually i do remember a couple publically washing their hands of him. If like me it was just a frustration of i felt he should of played and helped us but its been water under the bridge way before he came back.

The main thing that excites me about this story is the fact that UK has a first round NBA pick playing next season! That's awesome. I still agree that it was wise for Diallo to come back, despite the money he turned down, given that he can play one year of college basketball, possibly compete for a title, and stands to becoming a lottery pick. Who knows? He could become a top 5 pick or even the top pick. This story makes me love the kid even more.

If he goes top 5 that means we're a final four bound team at least

Happens every year that mid-way through the first round teams start to draft international players who most people have never heard of. And often teams draft overseas players they don't intend to bring over right away.

The effect of this is some players drop from where they were originally projected.

Given this scenario it's easy to see that while the Nets may indeed be interested in taking Diallo, it's really hard for them to promise they'll take him when there's any number of good players with proven track records who may still be available.

I personally didn't think the Nets were a good situation for Diallo anyway. He's not even a year removed from being in high school living in NYC. For him to return to his old stomping grounds as a 19-year old millionaire may not be the best situation.

Ya know, I read all of your post and I think you're one of the better ones. You don't seem to get into the mud, make well thought out post, don't pump, don't ridicule etc.

Your like count would go up by thousands if you'd make paragraphs.

just my opinion.

This is the pot calling the kettle black. You are one of the most negative posters here. I guess his post hit a little close to home huh?

So, he passed up 1st round money to come back? I thought he never intended to play at UK, was only using us, and was a big liar? Guess some posters here have a little egg on their faces.
Careful you're gonna make Kev cry.
