Need Kerr or Lamont back....

We are in conference play dead last in def eff.

Our opponents shooting isn’t going to get worse. This team maybe not press but they need to find a way to force SOME turnovers at the very least.
I'm starting to wonder if defense is just something Pope isn't all that interested in. Some coaches fall in love with scoring, and hang their hats on being able to pressure other teams into trying to keep up.

College basketball moves to 15 scholarships next year.

I think Pope should use at least 14 of them.
Scholarships isn’t the issue. You don’t need more than 12 really. It’s just shit luck when your starting and backup pg are out. We have a 3rd. He’s just not nearly good enough . At least not yet. And probably never will be defensively. But you’re not going to ever get a great 3rd team at any position. Especially not with the transfer portal. They’d look to play somewhere

Yeah because his defenses weren't all that good at BYU either.

I think he's clearly more focused on the offensive side of the ball. Which is fine. We just can't be last in the SEC lol. Get it to middle of the pack to go along with the very good offense and we are good.

We should get an update on Kerr soon.
He's soon to be 12 weeks out from injury so I would think he's close to being cleared to getting back on the court in some capacity.
I've had the same injury before and once you get full calcification of the fracture line, you're not in danger of re injury.
I was at 80-90% after 6 weeks in cast and fully healed after 4 more weeks in walking boot and all of that was with way less medical attention than Krissa has undoubtedly received.

I had the same injury as well, how long did it take for you to get used to putting full weight back on your foot?

Problem is there is no player who is good enough to play at this level who will come here and sit, waiting for a injury so he can play.
We could over come Carr's injury, but krissa and butler is something this team will not overcome IMO.
You are right that nobody coming in that's good enough coming in to play SEC ball is going to accept being a 11-15 guy. However, there are lots of 3 star types with talent to be good 2-3 years down the road that know they're not ready yet that would gladly sit on the bench a couple years for a Blueblood, espcially since they'll now get paid. Thiero is a perfect example and there are others with skills and a high ceiling not ranked high because they need a couple years of weight training. IMO the last few guys will be what we call "projects".

I could barely walk each morning when I got out of bed but it would get better the more I walked.
I had swelling in my calf everyday for a while.
I had to elevate it every afternoon after being on my feet all day.

Yeah it took me about 2 weeks to get fully back into things, and I was trying to do conditioning as well to get back in time for soccer season as well. It’s a tough injury to ramp up and get back from

Butler may require surgery if the intense PT they're trying doesn't work.
I played on 5 softball teams playing left field &third base for over ten years with a torn rotator cuff , I rehabbed & did a regiment of exercises that former LA Dodger catcher did as he played through the same injury.

Not sure what his injury is but playing through this type of injury can be maintained and still have great results performance wise!

So you like 4 on 4 scrimmages when you're down three rotation players and you only have 11 guys?

Brilliant stuff.

Some of you guys need to think deeper before contradicting posters.

Yeah but those last 4 kids won’t be the quality of player that we would need. We don’t have a problem with our numbers right now. We have a talent drop off problem after the first unit.
Are you a fan of 4 on 4 practices when two or three guys go down due to injury?

More quality players = better practices, even if you're 11 through 14 guys are Noah-level players.

Plus, more quality players equals more retainment within the program. Not everyone Pope gets is going to enter the portal after one year.

We need to think more broadly.

I’m surprised we are worse defensively than BYU was last season.

The difference could be culture and continuity. We may have better individual defenders than his BYU team last year, but there is no continuity. Every player spent multiple years under different systems with different players. They weren’t immersed in the same culture with a certain set of expectations and already accrued defensive experience.

I don’t think we have elite defending potential if our roster featured a solid returning core, but giving up 1.1 PPP in conference is far better than 1.16. Bad is an improvement over terrible lol.

That's kind of where I'm at by this point.

I just don't see this team magically turning into a good or even decent defensive team.

Just don't be terrible lol.

With 15 scholarships, you can afford to take guys like Perry and Noah who really want to be at UK. They can practice and develop and be counted on to contribute as upperclassmen. It worked back in the day for players like Cameron Mills, Nazi, Jeff Sheppard.
They are on the team now. What’s different?

Why are folks saying Butler might not return etc? Did that come from Pope n staff or is the sky falling an maybe as well throw that in too?

Pope said that they were evaluating Butler daily and he didn't sound encouraging about his chances of returning. Hope he can

Are you being serious? There are 500 kids at the intramural courts at UK that are better than her. She's great where she is at, let's leave it at that.
Just practicing and just seeing what she would look like without our two ones. At 5-6 she would physically get killed if they could catch her.

It would be interesting seeing Amoore practicing with this team with both our ones out. Her handle is so tight, quickness, craftiness and IQ so high.
I knew (my best friend's girlfriend's roommate) a Women's player that was a HS AA, and her SR year in college led her team to the National Championship game. She had a great handle, made insane passes, and shot it like a guy (not that push shot from the chest that a lot of college women still do). And while she was better than me (so were most of the guys playing intramurals), there were a decent number of guys that she couldn't out play in pickup games we played in. She held her own, but the height & reach & athleticism was too much for her to overcome at times.

His top 2 priorities last summer was the best defensive PG in the portal, and a 3 time DPOY C in the portal. Don't forget Oweh was known as more of a defender than a scorer. So Yeah, I think he is interested in defense. Now whether or not he can coach it to guys who don't already have that mindset, that is a valid question.

Yeah, the difference in height and strength (especially) makes it no way. I am just saying it would be interesting seeing her practice with guys and see how well her handle, shifting skill and IQ would do against all that. She has to be the best shifty player in womens basketball and her handle is A plus. Watch when they screen for her, she is like a tiger let out of a cage.
