Nbc to use AI voice of Jim Fagan for the winter olympics . Would you want to replace tom leach with a AI version of Cawood Ledford and Ralph Hacker or

Maybe humans have artificial intelligence. We have developed machines that can do voiceovers for dead people, write articles, make music and paint pictures.

Why didn’t we teach the damn machines to cut grass, wash dishes and do laundry? You know, let the machines do the menial tasks so humans can do creative things. Instead, we handed over the arts to AI so we can do busy work. Good job, humans.

Ranting aside, I would love to hear Cawood again, but wouldn’t want to replace a human in Tom with a machine in AI Ledford.

Maybe not replace Tom but maybe a alternative stream of cawood

Didn't James Earl Jones sell his voice pattern to Disney in case more Star Wars projects used the Darth Vader character?
I thought I'd heard that JEJ had recorded a massive vocal library for Disney or a Bible or something. If people like Morgan Freeman do something similar, that'll generate income for generations.

At the expense of rising stars in the industry, though. I get it for an iconic voice like Vader, but recreating Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine, David Attenborough, and more for voiceover work in the future seems ridiculous. Life is beautiful because it isn't forever. People we love and have grown accustomed to come and go.

I'm strongly against AI as it's trending. It's an incredible and powerful tool, but way too many companies are utilizing it instead of people to save a buck. Hell, McAfee has an ad out now that was made with AI and the woman doing a twirl morphs like an uncanny amoeba person.

The corporations that own this country have absolutely loved turning every little thing into a commodity and selling it back to us as a crappier product. AI comes after our humanity.

Soapbox over.

If I could AI laundry weekly, ESPECIALLY the folding and putting it away part...I'm not sure I could put a price tag on that service!

I don't know about this, but I'm not opposed to some AI in forms of doing voice work such as continuing old cartoons with characters we were used to hearing do the voice acting work in the long run for shows like Family Guy when their voice actors are done. Scooby (which has already changed), etc. King of the Hill could have continued on with this technology back then.

The AI song that was made from Randy Travis recordings sounds like he was the one who sang it. It's crazy they can do those things.

No thanks.

Calling games is for the living, in my opinion.

Plus, I find it unlikely that Cawood would have foreseen to sign off on such. If his estate approves then fine as far as that goes but I still prefer to hire living people to do the job.

It is more than a voice, personality is just as important.

Would rather not. We really need to be thinking long and hard on how we want to integrate AI into our lives. Which sounds like an obvious statement, yet it never seems to be addressed by our leaders.

Using AI to rapidly sift through medical history/data in a way that humans just simply can't do so we can properly diagnose cancer or perform treatment? Thats good.

Using AI to now start calling basketball games which we all know will inevitably lead to an entire line of work being eliminated in a decade? When there's absolutely no reason to not just use a real human for this? Thats bad.

AI needs to be used to make our lives better and do the things that humans simply can not.. but it shouldn't be used for cheap labor that makes billionaires even richer at the expense of the American people.

Many of the people that keep pushing AI the most will also be destroying their own careers.

I’ve said for years, humans don’t know how to leave well enough alone. This constant push by scientists to take the next step will eventually be our doom.

Not sure how to do it, but at some point there must be a body that says no to the constant pursuit to destroy everything.

I’m in a profession that’s relatively safe from AI, it demands human contact. But it’s believed in 10 years around half or more of professions will be impacted greatly by this. Yet we continue to go full steam ahead.

Not for the radio broadcast (which I rarely have to listen to anyway). But I don't care who announces on the TV broadcast. I pay zero attention to them.

Right now absolutely not. No matter how good AI is at something there’s always some tinny, skewed, rushed, or pinched aspect of it that makes the more realistic aspects of it seem even more creepy than if they’d been less realistic. In 70 years if they could really do that to where it would really be hard to say whether or not it was actually Cawood over the course of an entire game then sure, sign me up. In that case I would love it and wouldn’t consider it all that much creepier than an old-school recording, which is technically not the real person either.

But in 70 years I’ll be 150 years old . I want to hear it now .

I believe there is something to be said for scarcity. People ask this question about voices from the past because nothing new has been heard from them in a long while.

If AI gives us Cawood calling a game, people will think it's cool at first then move along to the next thing. Some things are better left being reminisced about.

Either way, it's probably coming...

Absolutely... Cawood was the best of the best... One night Hacker spilt coffee on Cawood and some stat sheets, Cawood calmly said. "Thanks Ralph, thanks for spilling coffee all over the stat sheets, folks Ralph just spilt coffee all over me and the stats sheets, Thanks Ralph." This was in the 70's
