NBA Mock Draft: Timberwolves making mistake by passing on Okafor

There was so much shear stupidity in both the column and comment section below it that I am not sure where to start. Any GM picking Oubre over Trey should be fired and forced to manage a skating rink in Butte Montana.

Devin Booker at 9!? Was that expected by you guys? Didn't see you all play that much this year, but that is a FANTASTIC spot to get picked up, no?

All that hair dye must be seeping into Parrish's brain. I don't see how anyone could logically put Okafor over Towns (or even Russell) at this point.

word...Oubre way over rated. Can shoot but not when it counts. Lyle does it all.

Parrish is a huge Memphis fan and is still not over the butthurt of Cal leaving the program.

i doubt it's that high, but i could see devin as a potential nba starter once he stepped on campus. he's underrated running without the ball for open looks, and defensively. but most of all, he's strong as heck for a guard, he's 6-5 and has a pure stroke, and a nice wing span. not yet the fastest release, nor is he supper fast. but he can still slash very well on ball reversals. he also has some explosion that we didn't see too much of. he has a fine vert from what i've seen, but i have no combine references on that.

i'm not surprised he topped out so high. but he won't be top ten imo at all. he needs to work on his one on one game/handles before he breaks out of his spot up role. i think he will, because he has the tools. a fine players, and good kid. gonna miss him in blue and white.

Like most people, this guy overvalues offense.

Okafor is a little better offensively, but KAT is a lot better defensively.

The game is played on both sides of the ball.

I think Oubre has a very high ceiling. At the end of the lottery, he is worth the risk. I think he has a rough first 3 years he has alot of maturing to do mentally and physically. Lyles is alot more mature and will make an immediate impact, but I feel like his ceiling is quite a bit lower than Oubre's. I would love to see Lyles in Toronto with Ppat and there should be a role for him to fill right away

You are kidding right? Please explain how Oubre's ceiling is higher?

No I'm not kidding, Oubre is clearly the superior athlete between the 2 and the more intriguing prospect. Like I said Trey has more to offer right now, but Oubre is perceived to have All Star potential. I personally don't care for Oubre and don't buy into the hype, I just know how the NBA works and how prospects are viewed. Any more questions douchebag?

Rafters clearly needs either a BigKari blood pressure or a BigKari menstruation level meter. Even though he's presumably a dude, latter probably most appropriate.

Okay if you are done with the childish insults I am curious what you have watched that talks of Oubre's all star potential. Everyone that I have watched said he underwhelmed at KU and should have came back. While Trey isn't a superior athlete between the 2 that doesn't always translate to immdediate all star. Tim Duncan is 10 times the player that Deandre Jordan is and isn't near the athlete.

It's human nature to overvalue your guys and undervalue a rival's guys. I still think Lyles is better than Oubre but Oubre's ceiling has been talked about only a million times.

I will, however, go to the grave thinking Towns is a better prospect and a better fit for what the Timberwolves do than Okafor, who I like a lot. If LA passes on him they're stupid.

Wish I could say I was surprised how some are putting over how amazing Okafor is right now, but I was really hoping they would've started their PR blitz sooner to maybe influence the narrative and help Towns slip to L.A. at #2.

It definitely seems like they're trying to set the stage for there to be "drama" and "controversy" when Towns goes #1, probably hoping they get a "first pick bust/second pick legend" storyline down the road-- the fact that it's a UK/Cal guy going #1 and a Duke/K guy going #2 makes them wish for that even more. WWE scripting has nothing on the fantasies of petty college basketball commentators.

No you absolutely have a good point, Oubre was disappointing at KU but there is still the perception that he could be an all star level player. I don't believe the hype but we all know the draft puts inflated stock in potential and measurables. Plus the NBA has to realize at this point that Bill Self is in over his head with the prospects he coaches. Wiggins couldn't function in his offense and that's the best player he's had.
