NBA Contracts

It’s no crazier than the mind-boggling money Saudi Arabia is paying washed up soccer players and golfers to play in its startup leagues.

Globalism has driven athlete money to obscene proportions. Thanks to its booming overseas popularity, the NBA is drowning in more money than it knows what to do with nowadays. They’ve gotta spend it on something …so why not the players?

At least most of the golfers they got are still pretty competitive. Hell Phil has won a major recently and finished 2nd at the Masters being 50 years old. Koepka, DeChambeau, Johnson are as good as anyone. They do have some random guys but they were smart for taking guaranteed money over fighting for a tour card every year. It’s hard to get washed up in golf.

They really just give out max contracts to anyone these days. It’s unbelievable the amount of role players that will make over $100 million…..
The money is obscene these days. I think Kyrie can get a 295 million deal for 5 years right now from Dallas. That would be sweet.

50% of the revenue goes to players. Would you rather they be paid less and the owners rake in more?

You see all these crazy contracts but then see Westbrook getting 2 years 7.8 million.

I know he's a nutcase and 34 but clippers seemed to have got a bargain there.

You also have to deal with Russ's masonry work and the fact that he hasn't been on the plus side of the +/- stat now for 3 years straight.

I don’t get into the argument this job isn’t worth that much money va thus job is underpaid. I personally do not think paying 10 bucks gate fee to watch rec league all star game tee ball is worth it….but I pay it and move on

But I do find rhe Lakers got some great value vs other contracts

Hachimura 3 years 50M
Reeves 4 years 56M
Jaxon Hayes 2 year 4M
Tauren prince 1 year 4.5 M
Gave Vincent 3 years 33M

Compares to
Divencenzio 4 years 50M Knicks
Dillion Brooks 4 years 80M Rockets
Max Struss 4 year 63M to Cavs
Desmond Bane 5 years 208M
Cam Johnson 4 year 108M
Russ Westbrook 2 years 7.8M feels like a good bargain
Even Draymind Green 4 year 100M ….that is aloof for a dude that is 33 and not able to get 10 pts or even 10 boards a game

I think Lakers are right there with Nuggets for best team now

Seems you’re not quite getting the concept of capitalism.
Well, I do…law of supply demand…pricing point strategies and free market…not too hard.

And I get everyone is going to squeeze every penny they have because the money is the real goal.

But there are long term implications to all of this. Ask Hockey. They were skyrocketing in the 90s, and struck over more money. The sport was never the same.

Similarly, I haven’t been to a professional game in years because for me it is about the sport, or the money or hype.

That was why I switched to college…now I feel like I need to switch to high school (for now) because college is all about the money and hype.

I just like sports. And yes I am Nick Nolte at the end of blue chips, LOL.
