National Media Consensus...Kentucky is "Down"

People said the same shit about Alabama in NCAAF this year after they lost to Ole Miss. "We know what this Alabama team is" they said. "Alabama and the SEC are just down this year" they said. "I wouldn't be surprised of the SEC didn't even have a representative in the CFB playoff" they said.

The media are click mongers, and they know UK haters and fans alike will take the bait.

Wait and see what they said after we kick Kansas' ass in Allen at the end of this month.

It's hilarious. You listen to a lot of the mainstream podcasts or shows and you would get the impression that UK just isn't much of a threat. At least not at the top of the sport.

I mean, I'm not saying UK is amazing, but they act like things aren't completely wide open. In my opinion, there are 15-20 teams with legitimate title hopes.

It's ok, let them say what they want.

"I like my team."

This UK ream is nowhere near as talented as last year's team but...who is? Sports media types have a VERY short memory. They're lucky if they can remember where they parked. But, they also can only reference last season to make comparisons. So, relative to last year's UK squad, yes we are "down". But, then so is all of college basketball.
Kansas, Oklahoma and UNC are at the top right now. But, all three are very beatable and as someone said earlier in this thread, any of 10-15 teams could win the Title this year.

Compared to last year, yes. Last year has nothing to do with this year, or with where ANY team will be come late March, including UK.

Sometimes you just have to face reality. UK has a nice team but our best player is 5'9". Next are a senior and a junior who will be nothing more than role players with an occasional breakout. There is no transcendental freshman Skal has underwhelmed so far, Murray is a streak shooter who struggles with decision making, and Briscoe is a good defender but can't make a shot other than a layup including free throws. Still my team but to make any noise the three freshman have to grow.

This is all technically correct, but that junior and senior are very good role players, there are a number of other solid bench guys that insulate us more so than other teams, and it would be betting against history to guess that at least 2 of the freshmen don't end up vastly better by March.
