National Championship Game

I'm not sure what anyone expected. We knew osu was the vastly superior team. The Domers making it a 1 score game in the 4th was somewhat dramatic but didn't feel like osu was ever n any real danger.

Most of the national title games of late have been duds. Michigan easily winning last year, Georgia by 58 2 years ago, the Georgia vs bama game was solid but uga won by 15 n the end, and then alabama crushing osu by 28. Last 5 haven't been very entertaining.
The Michigan/Washington game was a one score game until 7 minutes left so it wasn't like terrible.

I just went and looked up the championships. There hasn't been a one score championship game since the 2017 national championship (played in 2018).

Thanks for sharing all that data. We had a good run from 2015 to 2017 but not so much of late n terms of margin.

Last years game I was so wasted I don't even remember it being that close. I just remember never thinking michigan was gonna lose, much like last night.

OSU definitely earned this title based on quality of opponents along the way. It will be interesting to see the gauntlet future teams face n the new playoff era.

You know what this is starting to remind me of? How the Super Bowls sucked for like 15 years in the 80s/90s. The Super Bowl was basically the NFC Championship for so many years. Now the Super Bowl always seems to be a close game for the majority of the time.

Starting with the 01 season Super Bowl, 14 games have been one possession. Only three have been blowouts- Raiders/Bucs, Seahawks/Broncos, Bucs/Chiefs. The last three Super Bowls have been decided by three points.

EDITED: For comparison, from 1980-2000, there were only FIVE Super Bowls decided by one possession.

That's crazy.

Crazy that Ohio State won the first four team playoff and 12 team playoff. Wild.

Most deserving national champ the sport has ever had given what it took to win it.
Agree - no brainer. They beat four of the very best teams in the Playoffs and deserve the crown

When ND closed it to 8 and OSU got the ball back with 4 minutes left I though they might go full Mark Stoops and run it 3 times and then punt. Well they did run twice for no gain but since ND was playing 9 in the box with man coverage they had the balls to throw it down the field and got the big strike setting up the winning field goal. Great example of playing to win, and even if you are the superior team with the lead sometimes you have to roll the dice a little to close it out.

From 80 tp 2000. Titans vs Rams, packers vs broncos, giants vs bills are 3 of those 4. I am drawing a blank on the 4th. Maybe Bengals vs 49ers?

Shit, I think it's five.

Bengals/49ers 26-21
Bengals/49ers 20-16
Giants/Bills 20-19
Broncos/Packers 31-24
Rams/Titans 23-16

I forgot to count Bengals/49ers as two different ones.

What was the logic in trying the FG? ND still has to score 2 TDs even if they make it. That's a questionable decision, imo. Not gonna affect the outcome but I don't understand that decision at all.
True .. a baffling stupid decision. Are you playing to win or not ??
Anyway the entire thing , knowing the was going to win another title .. enough to make me physically ill .. then the gloating from my friends … too much to take

OSU deserved to win but ND was right there. OSU was the best team after the loss to Michigan and I don't think it is debatable but to act like ND didn't deserve to be there is foolish. They beat IU and PSU while missing multiple starters on offense. In the championship game, they were missing 7 starters on offense alone. They will be in the discussion next year as they return 16 starters from this year. They will need to replace Riley Leonard but the favorite to do that is the kid who led the drive at the end of the first half against PSU.

Also, someone needs to look for Jerimiyah Love as he didn't seem to make the trip from South Bend to Atlanta.

Well they certainly played to cover the 8 point spread I gave. 😎

FanDuel has Ohio State + 450 to win next years title with Texas +600 as 2nd favorite. Ky is + 25000 to win it all.

Doesn’t OSU have the largest NIL budget in college football? Great. Yaaaay.
It’s hard to say what the true numbers are. There were some stats floating around X that showed Oregon, Texas, and OSU as the top 3 spenders this past year and in that order. I’m not sure how the numbers were gathered but it wouldn’t surprise me if those were the top 3. I certainly don’t think OSU is alone at the top. They are just the ones talked about the most.
